 84 வயதான பன்முகத் திறமை கொண்ட திரைப்பட இயக்குநர், நடிகர் மற்றும் படைப்பாளரான Bharathiraja அவர்களின் மறைவு, தமிழ் திரைப்படத் துறைக்கு பேரிழப்பாகும்.

ஐந்து தசாப்தங்களுக்கும் மேலாக, தனது தனித்துவமான இயக்குநர் பாணியின் மூலம் இந்தியத் திரைப்பட உலகிற்கு அவர் அளித்த பங்களிப்பு அளப்பரியது. கிராமிய வாழ்க்கையையும் யதார்த்தத்தையும் திரையில் மிகுந்த இயல்புடனும் நம்பகத்தன்மையுடனும் கொண்டு வந்தவர் அவர். அவரது சிறப்புமிக்க கலைப் பயணத்திற்கு பல விருதுகள், கௌரவங்கள் மற்றும் சிறப்பு அங்கீகாரங்கள் கிடைத்துள்ளன. அதற்குரிய மரியாதையாகவே அவர் “இமயம் இயக்குநர்” என்ற பெருமைமிகு பட்டத்தைப் பெற்றார்; அது தமிழ் சினிமாவில் அவர் பெற்றிருந்த உயர்ந்த இடத்தையும் மகத்துவத்தையும் எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.

For more than five decades, he made an extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema through his unique directorial style, bringing realism and rural life to the screen with remarkable authenticity. His illustrious career earned him numerous accolades, honors, and special awards, rightfully earning him the title "Imayam Director" (Director of the Himalayas), a testament to his towering stature in Tamil cinema.

Beyond his cinematic achievements, his ever-smiling face, humility, and warm interaction with people from all walks of life made him widely admired and respected. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers, actors, and cinema lovers. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the world of Tamil cinema. May his soul rest in peace.

 A Memorable Drive on Kanakapura Road

Ramesh had come to Bengaluru from Chennai two years ago to work as a Manager in the Bengaluru branch of his corporate office. Although the popular Forum Mall was located near his apartment, he had never found the time to visit it.

One day, his wife Shalini and daughter Charu expressed their desire to see the mall and also enjoy a long drive along Kanakapura Road. They left their apartment at 3:00 PM and reached the mall shortly afterward. The family was amazed by the impressive arrangements, attractive stores, and vibrant atmosphere. They spent a pleasant couple of hours shopping and exploring the mall.

At around 5:30 PM, they came out and began their drive along the rapidly developing Kanakapura Road. Charu was fascinated by the sight of modern buildings, apartments, and eateries lining both sides of the road.

Excitedly, she said, “Dad, this area now has all kinds of restaurants, just like our areas of JP Nagar and Jayanagar.”

Shalini smiled and whispered, “That’s true. My friend Suganthi, who lives here, used to tell me that five years ago people would travel to JP Nagar and Jayanagar for shopping and dining. Today, Kanakapura Road itself is filled with restaurants, apartments, and commercial establishments. The arrival of the Metro has further increased its popularity, attracting people from various parts of the city.”

Ramesh nodded in agreement. “Yes, Bengaluru has changed a lot. The Garden City has expanded rapidly with apartments, malls, and modern infrastructure.”

Charu added thoughtfully, “Yes, Dad, but traffic is also increasing. Despite having different modes of transportation, managing traffic seems difficult.”

“My friend who lives nearby says this area will develop even further,” she continued. “He believes more facilities can be expected under the new administration.”

“I have heard the same from my colleagues,” said Ramesh. “However, I hope the authorities give top priority to traffic management and maintain good, pothole-free roads.”

“Exactly,” said Shalini. “These are basic amenities. Let us hope the new administration focuses on action rather than promises.”

கனகபுரா சாலையில் ஒரு மறக்க முடியாத பயணம்

ரமேஷ் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு சென்னை நகரிலிருந்து பெங்களூருவிற்கு தனது நிறுவனத்தின் பெங்களூரு கிளையில் மேலாளராகப் பணிபுரிய வந்திருந்தார். அவரது அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்பிற்கு அருகிலேயே பிரபலமான ஃபோரம் மால் இருந்தபோதிலும், அதைச் சென்று பார்க்க அவருக்கு இதுவரை நேரம் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

ஒருநாள், அவரது மனைவி ஷாலினியும் மகள் சாருவும் அந்த மாலைப் பார்க்கவும், கனகபுரா சாலையில் நீண்ட தூரம் காரில் பயணம் செய்யவும் விருப்பம் தெரிவித்தனர். அவர்கள் மதியம் 3.00 மணிக்கு தங்கள் குடியிருப்பிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு சிறிது நேரத்தில் மாலை அடைந்தனர். அங்கிருந்த சிறப்பான ஏற்பாடுகள், கவர்ச்சிகரமான கடைகள் மற்றும் துடிப்பான சூழல் ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்டு குடும்பத்தினர் மிகவும் ஆச்சரியமடைந்தனர். அவர்கள் இரண்டு மணி நேரத்திற்கும் மேலாக அங்கு சுற்றிப்பார்த்து, பொருட்கள் வாங்கி மகிழ்ச்சியாக நேரத்தை கழித்தனர்.

உற்சாகமாக அவள்,

“அப்பா, இப்போது இந்தப் பகுதியில் நமது ஜே.பி. நகர் மற்றும் ஜெயநகர் பகுதிகளைப் போலவே எல்லா வகையான உணவகங்களும் இருக்கின்றன,” என்றாள்.

ஷாலினி புன்னகையுடன் மெதுவாக,

“அது உண்மைதான். இங்கே வசிக்கும் என் தோழி சுகந்தி, ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு மக்கள் ஷாப்பிங் செய்வதற்கும் உணவருந்துவதற்கும் ஜே.பி. நகர் மற்றும் ஜெயநகருக்குச் செல்வார்கள் என்று கூறுவாள். ஆனால் இன்று கனகபுரா சாலையிலேயே ஏராளமான உணவகங்கள், அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்புகள் மற்றும் வணிக நிறுவனங்கள் உருவாகியுள்ளன. மேலும் மெட்ரோ ரயில் சேவை வந்த பிறகு, நகரின் பல பகுதிகளிலிருந்தும் மக்கள் இங்கு வரத் தொடங்கியதால் இந்தப் பகுதியின் முக்கியத்துவம் மேலும் அதிகரித்துள்ளது,” என்று கூறினாள்.

ரமேஷ் அதனை ஒப்புக்கொண்டு,

“ஆம், பெங்களூரு மிகவும் மாறிவிட்டது. தோட்ட நகரம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட இந்த நகரம் இன்று அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்புகள், மால்கள் மற்றும் நவீன உள்கட்டமைப்புகளுடன் வேகமாக விரிவடைந்துள்ளது,” என்றார்.

சாரு சிந்தனையுடன்,

“ஆம் அப்பா, ஆனால் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசலும் அதிகரித்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. பல்வேறு போக்குவரத்து வசதிகள் இருந்தாலும், போக்குவரத்தைச் சமாளிப்பது இன்னும் சிரமமாகவே உள்ளது,” என்றாள்.

பின்னர் அவள் தொடர்ந்தாள்,

“இங்கு வசிக்கும் என் நண்பர் ஒருவர், இந்தப் பகுதி இன்னும் அதிகமாக வளர்ச்சியடையும் என்று கூறுகிறார். புதிய நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ் மேலும் பல வசதிகள் கிடைக்கும் என்று அவர் நம்புகிறார்.”

“அதே கருத்தை என் அலுவலக நண்பர்களிடமிருந்தும் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன்,” என்று ரமேஷ் கூறினார். “ஆனால் அதிகாரிகள் போக்குவரத்து மேலாண்மைக்கு மிகுந்த முக்கியத்துவம் அளித்து, குழிகள் இல்லாத நல்ல சாலைகளை பராமரிப்பார்கள் என்று நான் நம்புகிறேன்.”

“அப்படித்தான்,” என்று ஷாலினி கூறினாள். “இவை அடிப்படை வசதிகள். புதிய நிர்வாகம் வெறும் வாக்குறுதிகளை வழங்குவதற்குப் பதிலாக செயல்பாடுகளில் கவனம் செலுத்தும் என்று நம்புவோம்.”

மாலுக்குச் சென்று, கனகபுரா சாலையின் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க வளர்ச்சியைக் கண்டு, சுமார் ஐந்து மணி நேரம் மகிழ்ச்சியாகக் கழித்த பிறகு, குடும்பத்தினர் தங்கள் குடியிருப்பிற்குத் திரும்பினர். வழியில் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசலைச் சந்தித்தபோதிலும், அவர்கள் அந்தச் சுற்றுலாவை முழுமையாக ரசித்தனர். தங்கள் சுற்றுப்புறம் எவ்வாறு மாற்றமடைந்துள்ளது என்பதை நேரில் கண்ட அனுபவம் அவர்களுக்குப் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் இனிய நினைவுகளையும் அளித்தது.

Art Paid for the Knee Surgery

Janardhan returned home after his morning walk and purchasing vegetables from the nearby market. He and his wife, Anusuya, lived in a small house they had built years ago. After retiring from HMT, Janardhan had invested his retirement benefits in a bank. The monthly interest from those deposits helped the couple manage their household expenses comfortably. Since they owned their house, they did not have to worry about paying rent.

Apart from this income, Janardhan was a talented artist by passion. He regularly drew cartoons for magazines and earned a decent amount every month. Their only son was settled in Singapore with his wife. He visited India once every two years along with their daughter, Sowmya, a bright and intelligent young woman pursuing her final year MBA. Sowmya had a passion for writing stories and had won many accolades from various organizations for her literary contributions.

Because of their advanced age—Janardhan being 75 and Anusuya 72—they had never taken health insurance. The premiums were very high, and many age-related illnesses were either excluded or only partially covered.

For the past three years, Anusuya had been suffering from severe pain in both knees. The pain had become unbearable, and doctors advised knee replacement surgery for both legs. The total cost, including hospitalization and medical expenses, would be around ten lakh rupees.

Janardhan had carefully saved money over the years and managed to accumulate seven lakh rupees. However, he was still short of three lakh rupees. He did not want to break his bank deposits because the monthly interest was essential for running their household. This worry weighed heavily on his mind as he returned home that day.

Anusuya brought him a cup of tea and some biscuits. As he sat quietly, lost in thought, his phone rang. It was his close friend Krishna.

"Janardhan, I have wonderful news for you!" Krishna said excitedly. "An international journal is looking for a cartoon artist. I recommended your name, and they have awarded you a one-year contract. You will receive ₹3,50000.

For a moment, Janardhan could not believe what he had heard. Tears of joy filled his eyes. He folded his hands and silently thanked his favorite deity for answering his prayers.

Turning to Anusuya, he said, "God has been kind to us. I do not want to disturb our son. He is managing his family and supporting Sowmya's education in Singapore. With this new assignment, I can earn the remaining amount needed for your surgery."

After a brief calculation, he smiled and added, "In fact, after meeting the expenses, we may still save around ₹50,000. We can use that to visit Mantralaya and seek the blessings of our Gururaya."

Anusuya's eyes brightened with happiness. She nodded and said, "That is a good decision. Your art has come to my rescue. It is your passion that will help cure my knee pain."

கலை முழங்கால் அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்கான செலவை ஏற்றது

ஜனார்தன் தனது காலை நடைப்பயிற்சியையும் அருகிலுள்ள சந்தையில் காய்கறிகள் வாங்கியதையும் முடித்துவிட்டு வீட்டிற்கு திரும்பினார். அவர் மற்றும் அவரது மனைவி அனுசுயா, பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கட்டிய சிறிய வீட்டில் வசித்து வந்தனர். HMT நிறுவனத்தில் பணியாற்றி ஓய்வு பெற்ற ஜனார்தன், தனது ஓய்வூதியத் தொகையை வங்கியில் முதலீடு செய்திருந்தார். அந்த முதலீட்டிலிருந்து கிடைக்கும் மாதாந்திர வட்டி வருமானம், அவர்களின் குடும்பச் செலவுகளை சௌகரியமாக நடத்த உதவியது. சொந்த வீடு இருந்ததால் வாடகை பற்றிய கவலையும் அவர்களுக்கு இல்லை.

கடந்த மூன்று ஆண்டுகளாக அனுசுயா இரு முழங்கால்களிலும் கடுமையான வலியால் அவதிப்பட்டு வந்தார். வலி தாங்க முடியாத அளவுக்கு அதிகரித்ததால், மருத்துவர்கள் இரு முழங்கால்களுக்கும் மாற்று அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று பரிந்துரைத்தனர். மருத்துவமனைச் செலவுகள் மற்றும் பிற மருத்துவச் செலவுகள் உட்பட மொத்தச் செலவு சுமார் பத்து லட்சம் ரூபாய் ஆகும்.

பல ஆண்டுகளாக மிகுந்த சிக்கனத்துடன் சேமித்து வந்த ஜனார்தன், ஏழு லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரை சேமித்திருந்தார். ஆனால் இன்னும் மூன்று லட்சம் ரூபாய் குறைவாக இருந்தது. அந்தத் தொகையை வங்கிக் கணக்கிலிருந்து எடுக்க அவர் விரும்பவில்லை, ஏனெனில் மாதாந்திர வட்டி வருமானமே அவர்களின் குடும்பச் செலவுகளுக்கு ஆதாரமாக இருந்தது. இந்தக் கவலை அவரை மிகவும் வாட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தது.

ஒரு கணம் ஜனார்தனால் தான் கேட்டதை நம்ப முடியவில்லை. மகிழ்ச்சிக் கண்ணீர் அவரது கண்களில் வழிந்தது. அவர் கைகளை கூப்பி, தனது இஷ்ட தெய்வத்திற்கு மனதார நன்றி கூறினார்.

பின்னர் அனுசுயாவை நோக்கி, “இறைவன் நமக்கு கருணை காட்டியிருக்கிறார். நம் மகனை நான் தொந்தரவு செய்ய விரும்பவில்லை. அவன் தனது குடும்பத்தை கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறான்; மேலும் சௌம்யாவின் கல்விச் செலவுகளையும் ஏற்றிருக்கிறான். இந்த புதிய ஒப்பந்தத்தின் மூலம், உன் அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்குத் தேவையான மீதித் தொகையை நான் சம்பாதித்துவிட முடியும்,” என்றார்.

சிறிது கணக்குப் போட்டுப் பார்த்த அவர் புன்னகையுடன் தொடர்ந்தார்:

“உண்மையில், அனைத்து செலவுகளையும் சந்தித்த பிறகும் சுமார் ₹50,000 நமக்குக் கையிருப்பாக இருக்கும். அந்தப் பணத்தை வைத்து நாம் மந்திராலயத்திற்கு சென்று குருராயரின் அருளைப் பெறலாம்.”

அனுசுயாவின் முகம் மகிழ்ச்சியில் மலர்ந்தது. “அது நல்ல முடிவு,” என்று அவர் கூறினார். “உங்கள் கலைதான் இன்று எனக்கு உதவியாக வந்துள்ளது. உங்கள் ஆர்வம்தான் என் முழங்கால் வலிக்கு நிவாரணம் அளிக்கப் போகிறது.”

Patience Rewarded

Lakshman came to the mall where Rekha was waiting for him. Both worked in private companies in good positions and cared deeply for each other. Lakshman, 26, was handsome, well-built, and an IIT Madrasgraduate. Rekha, 24, was charming, intelligent, and a graduate of RV College, Bangalore.

Their parents knew about their relationship and approved of it. However, they requested the couple to wait for marriage until their respective elder brothers got married. Coming from respectful and well-cultured families, Lakshman and Rekha agreed to obey their parents. Although they were free to meet and spend time together, they patiently waited for the right time.

That day, after some casual conversation, they decided to watch a movie at the mall. They chose the classic Kannada film Gowri Ganesha and thoroughly enjoyed it. After the movie, they had a delicious tiffin at their favorite Adigas restaurant before returning to their apartment complex, where they lived in different blocks.

When Lakshman's mother asked which movie they had watched, he replied, "Gowri Ganesha." Smiling, she blessed him and said, "I hope you both unite soon."

Similarly, Rekha's father asked her about the movie. When she gave the same answer, he smiled and said, "Your marriage day will come soon."

The following week, both families shared happy news: their elder sons had become engaged. Preparations began immediately, and two months later, Lakshman, Rekha, and their elder brothers were all married in the same wedding hall on the same day.

That evening, both sets of parents revealed the complete story. Lakshman and Rekha's elder brothers had fallen in love with doctors during their postgraduate studies. They had promised to marry only after completing their education. The parents had patiently coordinated everyone's futures so that all the weddings could be celebrated together.

With tears of joy, the parents said, "Lakshman and Rekha, you both showed patience, respect, and trust in your families. Today, all our children are happily married, and we are immensely proud and happy."

Lakshman and Rekha smiled at each other, realizing that their patience had been rewarded with a lifetime of happiness.

பொறுமைக்கு கிடைத்த பரிசு

லட்சுமணன், ரேகா தன்னை காத்திருந்த வணிக வளாகத்திற்கு (மால்) வந்தான். இருவரும் தனியார் நிறுவனங்களில் நல்ல பதவிகளில் பணியாற்றி வந்தனர். அவர்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் ஆழமாக நேசித்தனர். 26 வயதான லட்சுமணன் அழகான தோற்றமும், நல்ல உடல் அமைப்பும் கொண்டவன். அவன் Indian Institute of Technology Madras-ல் பட்டம் பெற்றிருந்தான். 24 வயதான ரேகா அழகும் அறிவும் நிறைந்தவள். அவள் R.V. College of Engineering-ல் பட்டம் பெற்றிருந்தாள்.

Today, I am penning a tribute to another versatile film personality from the Sandalwood film industry who left an indelible mark on Kannada cinema. She is none other than the late Padma Kumta, a talented actress whose remarkable performances won the admiration of audiences and critics alike.

Known for her versatility, Padma Kumta portrayed a wide range of roles alongside many leading actors of her era. Her dedication to the art of acting and her natural screen presence earned her immense respect and popularity among film lovers. It is no exaggeration to say that she was applauded by millions of fans for her outstanding contributions to Kannada cinema.

Her memorable performances in acclaimed films such as Chomana Dudi, Bayalu Daari, and several other notable movies showcased her exceptional talent and established her as a distinguished actress. The impact she created through her performances continues to be remembered even decades later.

Amazing Programme.

 An amazing program in remembrance of the legendary Late S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and his glorious five decades of contribution to music was beautifully conducted by Maya Srinivasan as part of Muktha Films' 60th program.

Anchor Bhuvana Venkat, in her own distinctive style, gave an excellent introduction to the history of Muktha Films, its memorable movies, and the various distinguished guests who participated in the event. Bobby Shankar, if I am not mistaken, also shared valuable insights into the music and legacy of the legendary singer.

The participation of people from different age groups and backgrounds reflected the deep affection and admiration that generations continue to hold for SPB. His mesmerizing voice, which brought life to songs for countless heroes, and his dignified personality ensure that he remains alive in our hearts forever.

I wholeheartedly compliment Bhuvana Venkat, Maya Srinivasan, and everyone associated with organizing this mammoth event on an international scale. Their efforts made the celebration a truly memorable tribute to a legend whose music continues to inspire millions.

Kudos to Maya Srinivasan and the entire team for this outstanding initiative.

Fortune Smiled on Veena

David came to Chennai after three years in Mumbai. After completing his M.Pharm degree, he had secured a job as a Quality Assistant in a leading pharmaceutical company and was enjoying his work.

His aunt Nancy and uncle Fredrick were settled in Chennai, while David's parents lived in Madurai. Nancy was delighted to see David and warmly welcomed him. She and Fredrick loved David dearly, especially since they had no children of their own.

David brought sweets and dresses for Aunt Nancy. In the evening, their neighbor Veena came to meet Nancy, as she had been invited earlier.

Veena was a beautiful, well-mannered young woman in her mid-twenties. Nancy introduced her to David and explained that Veena had recently completed her M.Pharm with excellent marks and was searching for a good job opportunity.

Veena's father, Gopal, worked in a government department, while her mother, Ambika, was a homemaker. Nancy and Ambika were close friends. Ambika often shared her delicious homemade dishes, especially her famous puliyodarai. Though the two families belonged to different faiths, they never missed each other's family functions. They respected one another deeply and had been good neighbors for more than a decade.

David looked through Veena's biodata and complimented her on her excellent academic record.

"You should try applying to our company or other reputed pharmaceutical firms in Mumbai," he suggested.

Veena smiled and replied, "No problem. My aunt lives in Mumbai. If I get a good opportunity there, I can stay with her."

Just then, David's phone rang.

"Hello, David! This is Sophia, your classmate," said the caller. "I heard from your mother that you are in Chennai. I have joined a newly started multinational pharmaceutical company based here and thought of inviting you to join us."

David thanked her but explained that he was happy in his current position in Mumbai.

However, he added, "I am forwarding a candidate's CV to you. If there is a suitable opening for her, both my aunt and I would be grateful."

An hour later, Sophia called again.

"Ask Veena to come for an interview. Most likely, she will be selected."

The next day, Veena attended the interview at the company's modern factory in the Tiruvanmiyur area, built in collaboration with an American firm.

To her delight, she was selected immediately. She received an appointment letter offering an attractive salary and benefits based on her qualifications and merit.

Veena thanked David sincerely for his help.

David smiled and said, "You were ready to move to Mumbai for a job. God has been kind and arranged an opportunity for you right here in Chennai through my friend Sophia. As an only daughter, you can stay close to your parents. That makes me even happier."

Veena looked at him with admiration. His words reflected genuine kindness and concern.

Later that evening, Ambika arrived with a box of sweets. She warmly thanked Nancy.

"You are an amazing friend," she said, embracing her.

David watched the scene with happiness. The friendship between Nancy and Ambika, built on mutual respect despite their different faiths, was truly inspiring.

வீணாவை நோக்கி அதிர்ஷ்டம் புன்னகைத்தது

மும்பையில் மூன்று ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றிய பிறகு, டேவிட் சென்னை வந்தார். எம்.பார்ம் (M.Pharm) படிப்பை முடித்த அவர், ஒரு முன்னணி மருந்து தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனத்தில் தரக் கட்டுப்பாட்டு உதவியாளராக (Quality Assistant) வேலை பெற்றிருந்தார். தனது பணியை அவர் மிகவும் விரும்பி மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் செய்து வந்தார்.

டேவிட்டின் அத்தை நான்சி மற்றும் மாமா பிரெட்ரிக் சென்னை நகரில் வசித்து வந்தனர். அவரது பெற்றோர் மதுரையில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர். டேவிட்டைக் கண்ட நான்சி மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்து அன்புடன் வரவேற்றார். குழந்தைகள் இல்லாததால், நான்சியும் பிரெட்ரிக்கும் டேவிட்டைத் தங்கள் சொந்த மகனைப் போல நேசித்தனர்.

டேவிட், அத்தை நான்சிக்காக இனிப்புகளையும் புதிய ஆடைகளையும் கொண்டு வந்திருந்தார். அன்று மாலை, முன்பே அழைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த அக்கம்பக்கத்து வீட்டுப் பெண் வீணா, நான்சியைச் சந்திக்க வந்தாள்.

வீணா இருபத்தைந்து வயதுக்கு அருகிலிருந்த அழகான, பண்பான இளம் பெண். சமீபத்தில் எம்.பார்ம் படிப்பில் சிறப்பான மதிப்பெண்களுடன் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருந்தாள். தற்போது நல்ல வேலை வாய்ப்பைத் தேடிக் கொண்டிருந்தாள்.

வீணாவின் தந்தை கோபால் அரசு அலுவலகத்தில் பணிபுரிந்தார். தாய் அம்பிகா இல்லத்தரசி. நான்சியும் அம்பிகாவும் நெருங்கிய தோழிகள். அம்பிகா அடிக்கடி தனது வீட்டில் தயாரித்த சுவையான உணவுகளை, குறிப்பாக புகழ்பெற்ற புளியோதரையை, நான்சியுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்வார்.

இரு குடும்பங்களும் வெவ்வேறு மதங்களைச் சேர்ந்திருந்தாலும், ஒருவரின் குடும்ப நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும் மற்றவர் தவறாமல் கலந்து கொண்டு மகிழ்வார்கள். அவர்கள் ஒருவரையொருவர் ஆழ்ந்த மரியாதையுடன் மதித்து, பத்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக நல்ல அண்டை வீட்டாராக வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர்.

வீணாவின் விவரக்குறிப்பைப் பார்த்த டேவிட், அவளது சிறந்த கல்விச் சாதனைகளைப் பாராட்டினார்.

“நீ எங்கள் நிறுவனத்திற்கோ அல்லது மும்பையில் உள்ள வேறு புகழ்பெற்ற மருந்து நிறுவனங்களுக்கோ விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்,” என்று அவர் ஆலோசனை கூறினார்.

வீணா புன்னகையுடன், “பிரச்சனை இல்லை. என் அத்தை மும்பையில் இருக்கிறார். அங்கு நல்ல வேலை கிடைத்தால் அவர்களுடன் தங்கிக் கொள்ளலாம்,” என்றாள்.

அந்த நேரத்தில் டேவிட்டின் கைப்பேசி ஒலித்தது.

“ஹலோ டேவிட்! நான் உன் வகுப்புத் தோழி சோபியா பேசுகிறேன்,” என்ற குரல் கேட்டது. “நீ சென்னை வந்திருக்கிறாய் என்று உன் அம்மாவிடம் இருந்து தெரிந்துகொண்டேன். நான் இப்போது புதிதாகத் தொடங்கப்பட்ட ஒரு பன்னாட்டு மருந்து நிறுவனத்தில் சேர்ந்திருக்கிறேன். உன்னையும் எங்களுடன் சேர அழைக்க நினைத்தேன்.”

டேவிட் நன்றியுடன் மறுத்தார்.

“உன் அழைப்புக்கு நன்றி. ஆனால் மும்பையில் உள்ள என் தற்போதைய வேலையில் நான் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கிறேன்,” என்றார்.

சிறிது யோசித்த அவர், “ஆனால் ஒரு வேட்பாளரின் சுயவிவரத்தை உனக்கு அனுப்புகிறேன். அவருக்கு ஏற்ற வேலை வாய்ப்பு இருந்தால், நானும் என் அத்தையும் மிகவும் நன்றியுடன் இருப்போம்,” என்றார்.

ஒரு மணி நேரத்திற்குப் பிறகு சோபியா மீண்டும் அழைத்தாள்.

“வீணாவை நேர்முகத் தேர்வுக்கு அனுப்புங்கள். பெரும்பாலும் அவள் தேர்வு செய்யப்படுவாள்,” என்றாள்.

மறுநாள், அமெரிக்க நிறுவனத்தின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் திருவான்மியூரில் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த அந்த நவீன மருந்து தொழிற்சாலைக்கு வீணா நேர்முகத் தேர்வுக்குச் சென்றாள்.

அவளது மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு அளவே இல்லை. நேர்முகத் தேர்விலேயே அவள் உடனடியாகத் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டாள். அவளது தகுதி மற்றும் திறமைக்கு ஏற்ப சிறந்த சம்பளமும் பல சலுகைகளும் கொண்ட நியமனக் கடிதம் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

வீணா மனமார டேவிட்டுக்கு நன்றி கூறினாள்.

டேவிட் புன்னகையுடன் கூறினார்:

“ஒரு வேலைக்காக நீ மும்பை செல்லத் தயாராக இருந்தாய். ஆனால் இறைவன் கருணை கொண்டு, என் தோழி சோபியாவின் மூலம் சென்னையிலேயே உனக்கான வாய்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். நீ உன் பெற்றோரின் ஒரே மகள். அவர்களுடன் அருகிலேயே இருக்க முடிவது எனக்கு இன்னும் மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தருகிறது.”

அவரது வார்த்தைகளில் இருந்த உண்மையான அக்கறையும் கருணையும் வீணாவை மிகவும் கவர்ந்தது. அவள் அவரை மதிப்புடன் நோக்கினாள்.

அன்று மாலை, அம்பிகா ஒரு இனிப்புப் பெட்டியுடன் நான்சியின் வீட்டிற்கு வந்தார். அவர் நான்சியை அன்புடன் அணைத்துக்கொண்டு,

“நீ உண்மையிலேயே ஒரு அற்புதமான தோழி,” என்று நன்றியுடன் கூறினார்.

அந்த காட்சியைப் பார்த்த டேவிட் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார். வெவ்வேறு மதங்களைச் சேர்ந்திருந்தாலும், பரஸ்பர மரியாதை மற்றும் அன்பின் அடிப்படையில் உருவான நான்சி–அம்பிகா நட்பு உண்மையிலேயே ஊக்கமளிப்பதாக இருந்தது.

New Leadership with Vision

Keshav entered his relative's house in Banashankari and met ten friends who were waiting for him. After enjoying tea and snacks, Keshav's cousin, Vasanthy, welcomed the gathering.

Vasanthy was a well-known independent journalist who actively supported good causes and development initiatives. Her husband, Ram, had recently retired from the Intelligence Bureau, and their only son, Pravin, was working in the Netherlands.

Vasanthy began her address:

"Friends, we are not politicians, but we always raise our voices for good causes and the development of our country, wherever it may be in India. By a strange coincidence, our culturally rich and educationally advanced state has recently witnessed an eminent leader leaving his party and starting a new movement dedicated to the state's interests and development.

He has appealed to the younger generation and to people with a strong national outlook to support his new organization. I forwarded his message to all of you. In fact, I joined the group just ten minutes before you arrived. As a journalist, I welcome his new venture and am confident that he will succeed in his mission."

Keshav stood up and said, "I had already joined the group as soon as I received the message from you."

One by one, all the others responded with the same enthusiasm, saying that they too had joined and supported the initiative.

The gathering then spent two hours in meaningful and productive discussion. Before leaving, they conveyed their best wishes to the new leader and his team.

As they returned to their homes, everyone felt happy and satisfied, believing they had contributed, in their own small way, to the progress of the great nation.

2008 ஆம் ஆண்டில் Blogspot.com மூலம் தொடங்கிய எனது "Ragavan – Creativity" என்ற வலைப்பதிவின் வழியாகவே கூகுள் குடும்பத்துடனான எனது தொடர்பு ஆரம்பமானது. எனது நினைவில் இருப்பதன்படி, ஆரம்ப நாட்களில் என் வலைப்பதிவின் பார்வையாளர்கள் எண்ணிக்கை சுமார் 30 ஆக இருந்தது.

தொலைநோக்குப் பார்வையுள்ள புதிய தலைமையகம்

கேசவன் பனசங்கரியில் உள்ள தனது உறவினர் வீட்டிற்குள் நுழைந்தார். அங்கு அவருக்காகக் காத்திருந்த பத்து நண்பர்களைச் சந்தித்தார். தேநீர் மற்றும் சிற்றுண்டிகளை மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அருந்திய பிறகு, கேசவனின் சகோதரி வசந்தி அனைவரையும் வரவேற்றார்.

வசந்தி ஒரு பிரபலமான சுயாதீன பத்திரிகையாளர். நல்ல காரியங்களுக்கும் வளர்ச்சித் திட்டங்களுக்கும் எப்போதும் ஆதரவாகக் குரல் கொடுத்து வந்தார். அவரது கணவர் ராம் சமீபத்தில் உளவுத்துறையிலிருந்து ஓய்வு பெற்றிருந்தார். அவர்களுடைய ஒரே மகன் பிரவின் நெதர்லாந்தில் பணியாற்றி வந்தார்.

வசந்தி தனது உரையைத் தொடங்கினார்:

“நண்பர்களே, நாம் அரசியல்வாதிகள் அல்ல. ஆனால் இந்தியாவின் எந்தப் பகுதியில் நடந்தாலும், நல்ல காரியங்களுக்கும் நமது நாட்டின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கும் எப்போதும் ஆதரவாகக் குரல் கொடுத்து வருகிறோம்.

ஒரு வினோதமான சம்பவமாக, நமது பண்பாட்டு வளமும் கல்வி முன்னேற்றமும் கொண்ட மாநிலத்தில், அண்மையில் ஒரு சிறந்த தலைவர் தாம் இருந்த கட்சியிலிருந்து விலகி, மாநிலத்தின் நலனும் வளர்ச்சியும் நோக்கமாகக் கொண்ட புதிய இயக்கத்தைத் தொடங்கியுள்ளார்.

அவர் இளைஞர்களையும், வலுவான தேசிய உணர்வு கொண்ட மக்களையும் தனது புதிய அமைப்பிற்கு ஆதரவு அளிக்குமாறு அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளார். அவருடைய செய்தியை நான் உங்களுக்கெல்லாம் அனுப்பியிருந்தேன். உண்மையில், நீங்கள் வருவதற்கு பத்து நிமிடங்களுக்கு முன்புதான் நானும் அந்தக் குழுவில் இணைந்தேன்.

ஒரு பத்திரிகையாளராக, அவருடைய இந்த புதிய முயற்சியை நான் வரவேற்கிறேன். அவர் தனது இலட்சியப் பயணத்தில் நிச்சயமாக வெற்றி பெறுவார் என்ற நம்பிக்கை எனக்கு உள்ளது.”

அப்போது கேசவன் எழுந்து நின்று கூறினார்:

“நீங்கள் அனுப்பிய செய்தி கிடைத்த உடனேயே நானும் அந்தக் குழுவில் இணைந்துவிட்டேன்.”

அதன்பின் மற்றவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவராக எழுந்து, தாங்களும் அந்தக் குழுவில் இணைந்து, இந்த புதிய முயற்சிக்கு ஆதரவு அளித்திருப்பதாக உற்சாகமாகத் தெரிவித்தனர்.

பின்னர், அந்தச் சந்திப்பில் இரண்டு மணி நேரம் பயனுள்ள மற்றும் அர்த்தமுள்ள கலந்துரையாடல் நடைபெற்றது. பிரியாவிடை பெறுவதற்கு முன், அனைவரும் அந்த புதிய தலைவருக்கும் அவரது குழுவினருக்கும் தங்களது மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துகளைத் தெரிவித்தனர்.

தங்களது வீடுகளுக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றபோது, ஒவ்வொருவரும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடனும் மனநிறைவுடனும் இருந்தனர். தங்களால் இயன்ற சிறிய அளவிலாவது இந்த மகத்தான நாட்டின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு பங்களித்திருக்கிறோம் என்ற திருப்தி அவர்களுக்குள் நிலவியது.

A memorable IPL season

Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrate winning the 2026 Indian Premier League final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad last Sunday. AFP

I write in reference to the article Virat Kohli’s record fifty seals IPL 2026 title for Bengaluru (May 31): Royal Challengers Bengaluru showed exceptional skill, determination and teamwork throughout the season. Under Rajat Patidar’s inspiring captaincy, “RCB” – as they are commonly known – delivered another memorable championship-winning performance. Every player contributed significantly to the team’s success, with Kohli’s knock in the final adding further brilliance to the victory. My home city of Bengaluru, often called India’s “Silicon Valley”, is in the news these days for being home to RCB. The jubilant celebrations by Bengalureans following the team’s second straight title win transformed the city into a vibrant sea of red and gold. Tantalizing Tirur

Janaki called her student Vindhya to wish her a happy birthday. The previous week, Vindhya had mentioned that her birthday was approaching and had expressed her desire to receive Janaki’s blessings.

Janaki, a retired bank officer, devoted her time to engaging with senior citizens, discussing Vedanta and spirituality. Vindhya, the daughter of one of Janaki’s friends, admired her dedication and her sincere concern for everyone’s well-being and happiness.

Janaki’s husband, Sudeep, was a retired professor. Their only daughter was settled in Shivamogga.

That evening, Vindhya visited Janaki’s apartment with a box of sweets. She offered them to Janaki and sought the blessings of both Janaki and Sudeep.

Janaki asked Vindhya to sit down and went to the kitchen to bring some homemade sweets she had prepared. As she returned, she walked slowly and carefully before sitting down.

“Madam, what happened? Are you tired?” Vindhya asked with concern.

Before Janaki could reply, Sudeep said, “No, Vindhya. She has been suffering from severe pain in both knees for the past eight years. She bears it quietly, but on some days the pain becomes unbearable. She cannot even enjoy a walk within our apartment campus. She is afraid of surgery because different friends have shared different experiences.”

Vindhya looked surprised.

“Oh my God! I never knew you were suffering so much, Madam.”

She continued, “Recently, one of my relatives, who is seventy-five years old, underwent treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital in Kerala for two months. She is now relieved of her knee pain and is very happy. She recovered without surgery. I have forgotten the exact place, but I will find out and let you know.”

Just then, Janaki received a call from Reshma, another close friend of her age and a retired science teacher.

“Janaki,” said Reshma, “you know I have been suffering from severe knee pain for the past five years. An old professor of mine told me about an Ayurvedic hospital in Tirur where treatment is available without surgery. I am planning to go there next week. Since you have the same problem, would you like to join me? I can book our train tickets.”

The moment Vindhya heard the word “Tirur,” her face lit up.

“Madam, that’s the same place I was trying to remember—Tirur!”

Janaki was delighted. She immediately told Reshma to book a ticket for her as well. She decided to accompany her friend to Tirur for treatment. At the same time, she was happy that the journey would also give her an opportunity to have darshan of her beloved Lord Guruvayurappan at Guruvayur Temple. She silently prayed for a successful treatment and relief from her long-standing pain.

After the call ended, Sudeep smiled and thanked Vindhya.

“Today, you have brought more than just my favorite milk cake,” he said warmly. “You have also given us the clue that may help my better half find relief from her suffering.”

They spent some more time chatting happily. Vindhya felt deeply satisfied that she had been able to guide her beloved teacher toward a possible solution. With a heart full of joy and hope, she took leave and headed home.

Moral: Sometimes, a simple conversation and timely guidance can open the door to healing, hope, and happiness.

திரூரின் நம்பிக்கையூட்டும் பயணம்

ஜானகி தனது மாணவி விந்த்யாவிற்கு பிறந்தநாள் வாழ்த்துகள் தெரிவிக்க தொலைபேசியில் அழைத்தார். கடந்த வாரம், தனது பிறந்தநாள் நெருங்கிவருவதாகவும், ஜானகியின் ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெற விரும்புவதாகவும் விந்த்யா கூறியிருந்தாள்.

ஓய்வுபெற்ற வங்கி அதிகாரியான ஜானகி, தனது நேரத்தை மூத்த குடிமக்களுடன் பழகுவதிலும், வேதாந்தம் மற்றும் ஆன்மிகம் பற்றிய கலந்துரையாடல்களிலும் செலவழித்து வந்தார். ஜானகியின் தோழியின் மகளான விந்த்யா, அனைவரின் நலனிலும் மகிழ்ச்சியிலும் அக்கறை கொண்டிருந்த ஜானகியின் அர்ப்பணிப்பு மனப்பான்மையை மிகவும் பாராட்டினாள்.

ஜானகியின் கணவர் சுதீப் ஓய்வுபெற்ற பேராசிரியர். அவர்களுடைய ஒரே மகள் சிவமொக்காவில் குடும்பத்துடன் வசித்து வந்தாள்.

அன்றைய மாலை, விந்த்யா ஒரு இனிப்புப் பெட்டியுடன் ஜானகியின் வீட்டிற்கு வந்தாள். அந்த இனிப்புகளை ஜானகிக்கு வழங்கி, ஜானகி மற்றும் சுதீப் இருவரிடமும் ஆசீர்வாதம் பெற்றாள்.

ஜானகி, விந்த்யாவை அமரச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, தானே தயாரித்திருந்த வீட்டுச் இனிப்புகளை எடுத்து வர சமையலறைக்குச் சென்றார். திரும்பி வந்தபோது, மெதுவாகவும் கவனமாகவும் நடந்து வந்து அமர்ந்தார்.

“மேடம், என்ன ஆயிற்று? மிகவும் சோர்வாக இருக்கிறீர்களா?” என்று கவலையுடன் கேட்டாள் விந்த்யா.

ஜானகி பதில் சொல்லும் முன் சுதீப் கூறினார்:

“இல்லை விந்த்யா. கடந்த எட்டு ஆண்டுகளாக இரு முழங்கால்களிலும் கடுமையான வலியால் அவதிப்பட்டு வருகிறாள். அமைதியாகத் தாங்கிக்கொள்கிறாள். ஆனால் சில நாட்களில் அந்த வலி தாங்க முடியாத அளவுக்கு அதிகரிக்கிறது. எங்கள் குடியிருப்பு வளாகத்திற்குள் கூட சற்று நடந்து வர முடியவில்லை. அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்ய பயப்படுகிறாள். காரணம், நண்பர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஒவ்வொரு விதமான அனுபவங்களைப் பகிர்ந்திருக்கிறார்கள்.”

விந்த்யா அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தாள்.

“ஐயோ! மேடம், நீங்கள் இவ்வளவு கஷ்டப்படுகிறீர்கள் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியவே தெரியாது!”

சற்று யோசித்துவிட்டு அவள் கூறினாள்:

“சமீபத்தில் எனது உறவினர் ஒருவர், எழுபத்தைந்து வயதில், கேரளாவில் உள்ள ஒரு ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவமனையில் இரண்டு மாதங்கள் சிகிச்சை பெற்றார். இப்போது அவருக்கு முழங்கால் வலி மிகவும் குறைந்து, மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கிறார். அறுவை சிகிச்சை இல்லாமலேயே குணமடைந்தார். அந்த இடத்தின் பெயர் இப்போது நினைவில் இல்லை. தெரிந்துகொண்டு உங்களிடம் சொல்கிறேன்.”

அந்த நேரத்தில், ஜானகிக்கு அவருடைய நெருங்கிய தோழியும் ஓய்வுபெற்ற அறிவியல் ஆசிரியையுமான ரேஷ்மாவிடமிருந்து தொலைபேசி அழைப்பு வந்தது.

“ஜானகி,” என்றார் ரேஷ்மா, “கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளாக நான் முழங்கால் வலியால் மிகவும் அவதிப்பட்டு வருகிறேன் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியும். எனது பழைய பேராசிரியர் ஒருவர், திரூரில் உள்ள ஒரு ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவமனையைப் பற்றி கூறினார். அங்கு அறுவை சிகிச்சை இல்லாமல் சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்படுகிறதாம். அடுத்த வாரம் அங்கு செல்ல திட்டமிட்டுள்ளேன். உனக்கும் இதே பிரச்சினை இருப்பதால், நீயும் என்னுடன் வர விரும்புகிறாயா? ரயில் டிக்கெட்டையும் நான் முன்பதிவு செய்து விடுகிறேன்.”

“திரூர்” என்ற வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டவுடன் விந்த்யாவின் முகம் மலர்ந்தது.

“மேடம், நான் நினைவுபடுத்த முயன்ற அதே இடம் இதுதான் — திரூர்!”

ஜானகி மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தார். உடனே ரேஷ்மாவிடம் தனக்குமான டிக்கெட்டையும் பதிவு செய்யச் சொன்னார். சிகிச்சைக்காக தனது தோழியுடன் திரூருக்குச் செல்ல முடிவு செய்தார்.

அதே சமயம், அந்தப் பயணத்தின் போது தன் அன்புத் தெய்வமான குருவாயூரப்பனை Guruvayur Temple தரிசிக்கும் வாய்ப்பும் கிடைக்கும் என்ற எண்ணம் அவருக்கு பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியை அளித்தது. சிகிச்சை வெற்றியடையவும், நீண்டகால வலியிலிருந்து விடுதலை கிடைக்கவும் மனதார பிரார்த்தித்தார்.

தொலைபேசி உரையாடல் முடிந்ததும், சுதீப் புன்னகையுடன் விந்த்யாவிற்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்தார்.

“இன்று நீ எனக்குப் பிடித்த பால் கேக்கை மட்டும் கொண்டு வரவில்லை,” என்று அன்புடன் கூறினார். “என் வாழ்க்கைத் துணைக்கு அவளுடைய நீண்டகால வேதனையிலிருந்து விடுதலை கிடைக்க உதவும் ஒரு முக்கியமான வழிகாட்டுதலையும் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கிறாய்.”

அவர்கள் இன்னும் சிறிது நேரம் மகிழ்ச்சியாக உரையாடினர். தன் அன்பு ஆசிரியைக்கு ஒரு நல்ல தீர்வைச் சுட்டிக்காட்ட முடிந்தது என்ற திருப்தியில் விந்த்யாவின் மனம் நிறைந்தது. நம்பிக்கையும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் நிரம்பிய இதயத்துடன், அவள் விடைபெற்று தனது வீட்டிற்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றாள்.

The recent fire tragedy at a hotel in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, in which 21 people reportedly lost their lives, has been widely condemned as both unacceptable and deeply tragic. Allegations of negligence on the part of the hotel owner and management have been raised by many, and the matter is subject to investigation by the relevant authorities. Every hotel and business establishment has a responsibility to strictly comply with fire safety norms, building regulations, and emergency preparedness requirements to ensure the safety of guests, employees, and the public. Failure to adhere to these standards can have devastating consequences, highlighting the importance of regular inspections, maintenance of safety equipment, and full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

 Memorable Ramnagar Visit

Kishore was visiting Bangalore for the first time after settling in Sydney more than two decades ago. He lived there with his wife, Rashmy, and their son, Vikas. This time, he had come alone on an official trip that would last ten days.

Initially, Kishore planned to stay in a hotel, but his close friend Yogesh and his wife Yamuna insisted that he stay with them at their apartment in JP Nagar. When Kishore arrived, he was warmly welcomed by the couple. Their charming daughter, who was studying medicine, was delighted to meet him, as this was his first visit to Bangalore since moving to Sydney.

Kishore owned an event management company and had come to Bangalore to attend a conference. After a delicious lunch and some sweets, Yogesh asked him, "Apart from your conference, where would you like to go?"

Since childhood, Kishore had been passionate about photography. He expressed his desire to visit Ramnagar, the famous location where the legendary film Sholay was shot.

On Sunday, Kishore, Yogesh, and Yamuna set out for Ramnagar. Yogesh knew officials in the local administration and had obtained permission to visit the original shooting locations. On reaching the site, Kishore was thrilled. He admired how the location had been chosen and how the art director's work had created a cinematic landmark that remained unforgettable decades later.

Yogesh explained the significance of each shooting spot. They discussed the magnificent film directed by Ramesh Sippy, son of producer G. P. Sippy. They recalled its memorable songs, outstanding cinematography by Dwarka Divecha, and the stellar performances of its actors, many of whom were no longer alive.

For nearly three hours, Kishore enthusiastically photographed the famous locations while Yogesh and Yamuna accompanied him. Later, they enjoyed lunch at a nearby hotel. Before returning, Yogesh took Kishore to a renowned sweet shop famous for its Mysore Pak. Kishore purchased two kilograms to take back to Sydney, knowing it would remain fresh during the journey.

After completing his official work and reliving cherished memories, Kishore boarded his flight back to Sydney. As he sat in the aircraft, he quietly whispered, "Amazing Sholay Spot, Ramnagar."

He felt happy and satisfied that he had spent ten wonderful days productively and joyfully in his home country after more than twenty years away. The memories of Bangalore, his friends, and the unforgettable visit to Ramnagar would remain with him forever.

மறக்க முடியாத ராமநகர் பயணம்

இருபது ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக சிட்னியில் குடியேறி வாழ்ந்து வந்த பிறகு, கிஷோர் முதல் முறையாக பெங்களூருக்கு வந்திருந்தார். அங்கு அவர் தனது மனைவி ரஷ்மி மற்றும் மகன் விகாஸுடன் வசித்து வந்தார். இந்த முறை, பத்து நாட்கள் நீடிக்கும் அலுவல் பயணத்திற்காக அவர் தனியாக இந்தியா வந்திருந்தார்.

ஆரம்பத்தில், கிஷோர் ஒரு ஹோட்டலில் தங்க திட்டமிட்டிருந்தார். ஆனால் அவரது நெருங்கிய நண்பர் யோகேஷும், அவரது மனைவி யமுனாவும், ஜே.பி. நகரில் உள்ள தங்களது அடுக்குமாடி வீட்டில் தங்குமாறு வற்புறுத்தினர். கிஷோர் அங்கு வந்தபோது, அந்த தம்பதியினர் அவரை அன்புடன் வரவேற்றனர். மருத்துவம் படித்து வந்த அவர்களது அழகிய மகளும், சிட்னிக்கு குடிபெயர்ந்த பிறகு கிஷோர் பெங்களூருக்கு வருவது இதுவே முதல் முறை என்பதால், அவரை சந்தித்ததில் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தாள்.

கிஷோர் ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி மேலாண்மை நிறுவனத்தின் உரிமையாளராக இருந்தார். அவர் பெங்களூருக்கு ஒரு மாநாட்டில் பங்கேற்க வந்திருந்தார். சுவையான மதிய உணவும் இனிப்புகளும் சாப்பிட்ட பிறகு, யோகேஷ் அவரிடம், “மாநாட்டைத் தவிர வேறு எங்கு செல்ல விரும்புகிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

சிறுவயதிலிருந்தே கிஷோருக்கு புகைப்படக்கலையில் மிகுந்த ஆர்வம் இருந்தது. அதனால், புகழ்பெற்ற ஷோலே திரைப்படம் படமாக்கப்பட்ட ராமநகரை பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்ற தனது விருப்பத்தை அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை, கிஷோர், யோகேஷ் மற்றும் யமுனா மூவரும் ராமநகருக்குப் புறப்பட்டனர். அங்குள்ள நிர்வாக அதிகாரிகளுடன் யோகேஷுக்கு நல்ல அறிமுகம் இருந்ததால், படப்பிடிப்பு நடைபெற்ற அசல் இடங்களை பார்வையிட அனுமதி பெற்றிருந்தார். அங்கு சென்றதும் கிஷோர் மிகுந்த உற்சாகமடைந்தார். அந்த இடம் எவ்வளவு சிறப்பாக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது என்பதையும், கலை இயக்குநரின் படைப்பாற்றல் எவ்வாறு பல தசாப்தங்களாக மறக்க முடியாத ஒரு திரை உலகச் சின்னமாக அதை மாற்றியிருந்தது என்பதையும் வியப்புடன் ரசித்தார்.

ஒவ்வொரு படப்பிடிப்பு இடத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் யோகேஷ் விளக்கிக் கூறினார். தயாரிப்பாளர் ஜி. பி. சிப்பியின் மகனான ரமேஷ் சிப்பி இயக்கிய அந்த மாபெரும் திரைப்படத்தைப் பற்றி அவர்கள் உரையாடினர். அதன் மறக்க முடியாத பாடல்கள், துவார்கா திவேச்சாவின் அற்புதமான ஒளிப்பதிவு மற்றும் இன்று உயிருடன் இல்லாத பல நடிகர்களின் சிறந்த நடிப்பை நினைவுகூர்ந்தனர்.

The Difficult Decision

Rajan went to visit his old friend Vittal at his apartment in the Gandhinagar area of Madurai to congratulate Vittal’s grandson, Varun. Varun had scored excellent marks in his school final examinations and had also secured a high rank in the entrance examination. Initially, he had decided to study Political Science because he wanted to serve society with integrity and contribute to the development of his state.

Vittal warmly welcomed Rajan and offered him coffee and snacks. To celebrate the happy occasion, Rajan had brought a box of sweets.

Calling Varun over, Rajan said,

“Congratulations, my boy! Choosing to study Political Science is a noble decision. Young people like you should enter public life and work for the progress of our state and country.”

Varun accepted the sweets with a smile.

“Thank you, Uncle. But until last night, I was certain that I would study Political Science. Today, I have changed my mind.”

Rajan and Vittal looked at each other in surprise.

“What happened?” Vittal asked.

Before answering, Varun picked up the box of sweets and said,

“Uncle, thank you for bringing these sweets. I would like to give them to the security staff of our apartment complex. Recently, they found a suitcase that a resident had accidentally left behind and honestly returned it.”

Vittal nodded appreciatively.

“That’s a good thought, Varun. But why did you suddenly change your decision about studying Political Science?”

Varun’s face became serious.

“You both know that respected educationist. He dedicated many years of his life working for his preferred political party. He consistently spoke about honesty, development, and eliminating corruption. People across the state appreciated his work.”

Both elders nodded in agreement.

“Despite all his sincerity and dedication, the very party he supported failed to value his contributions. Recently, he decided to leave that party. Surprisingly, the party itself seemed unconcerned about his departure. I truly believed that because he worked wholeheartedly for the welfare of the nation, he would receive the respect and recognition he deserved.”

After a brief pause, Varun continued.

“When I saw that years of dedication and sacrifice could be ignored so easily, I began rethinking my future. If genuine efforts are not recognized, what motivation remains to continue working? Just as he made a firm decision to leave the party, I have made a firm decision not to choose Political Science as my field of study. Instead, I am going to study Electronics and Communication Engineering.”

Silence filled the room.

After hearing Varun’s reasoning, Rajan and Vittal were shocked. Although they felt disappointed, they realized that he had arrived at this decision only after deep reflection. They respected his choice.

A few minutes later, Rajan spoke.

“Recognition should not be everything. But genuine appreciation and respect are very important. People who work honestly deserve to be valued.”

Vittal agreed.

“Whether in politics, professional life, or personal relationships, recognition and respect motivate people to continue giving their best.”

Varun smiled quietly. His decision was firm, and both elders accepted it.

Moral

Recognition and respect are powerful motivators. Whether in politics, professional careers, social service, or personal life, people naturally hope that their sincere efforts will be appreciated and acknowledged. மதுரையின் காந்திநகர் பகுதியில் உள்ள தனது பழைய நண்பர் விட்டலின் அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்புக்கு, அவரது பேரன் வருணை வாழ்த்துவதற்காக ராஜன் சென்றார். வருண் பள்ளி இறுதித் தேர்வில் சிறந்த மதிப்பெண்கள் பெற்று, நுழைவுத் தேர்விலும் உயர்ந்த தரவரிசையைப் பெற்றிருந்தான். ஆரம்பத்தில், சமூகத்திற்கு நேர்மையுடன் சேவை செய்து, தனது மாநிலத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்குப் பங்களிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்துடன் அரசியல் படிக்க முடிவு செய்திருந்தான்.

விட்டல் அன்புடன் ராஜனை வரவேற்று, காபியும் சிற்றுண்டியும் வழங்கினார். இந்த மகிழ்ச்சியான நிகழ்வைக் கொண்டாடுவதற்காக ராஜன் ஒரு இனிப்புப் பெட்டியையும் கொண்டு வந்திருந்தார்.

“நன்றி, மாமா. ஆனால் நேற்று இரவு வரை நான் அரசியல் படிக்க உறுதியாக இருந்தேன். இன்று என் மனதை மாற்றிக்கொண்டேன்.”

ராஜனும் விட்டலும் ஆச்சரியத்துடன் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பார்த்தனர்.

“என்ன நடந்தது?” என்று விட்டல் கேட்டார்.

பதிலளிப்பதற்கு முன், வருண் இனிப்புப் பெட்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு,

“மாமா, இந்த இனிப்புகளைக் கொண்டு வந்ததற்கு நன்றி. இதை நமது அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்பின் பாதுகாப்புப் பணியாளர்களுக்கு கொடுக்க விரும்புகிறேன். சமீபத்தில், ஒரு குடியிருப்பாளர் தவறுதலாக தொலைத்துச் சென்ற பயணப்பெட்டியை அவர்கள் கண்டுபிடித்து நேர்மையாக திருப்பிக் கொடுத்தார்கள்,” என்றான்.

விட்டல் பாராட்டும் விதமாகத் தலையசைத்தார்.

“அது நல்ல எண்ணம், வருண். ஆனால் அரசியல் படிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற உன் முடிவை ஏன் திடீரென்று மாற்றிக்கொண்டாய்?”

இரு பெரியவர்களும் சம்மதமாகத் தலையசைத்தனர்.

“அவ்வளவு நேர்மையுடனும் அர்ப்பணிப்புடனும் உழைத்த அவருடைய பங்களிப்பை, அவர் ஆதரித்த அதே கட்சி மதிக்கத் தவறிவிட்டது. சமீபத்தில் அவர் அந்தக் கட்சியை விட்டு விலக முடிவு செய்தார். ஆச்சரியமாக, அந்தக் கட்சியும் அதைப் பற்றி பெரிதாக கவலைப்படாதது போலத் தோன்றியது. நாட்டின் நலனுக்காக அவர் முழு மனதுடன் உழைத்ததால், அவருக்கு உரிய மரியாதையும் அங்கீகாரமும் கிடைக்கும் என்று நான் உண்மையாக நம்பியிருந்தேன்.”

சிறிது நேரம் அமைதியாக இருந்த வருண் தொடர்ந்தான்.

“பல ஆண்டுகளாக செய்த அர்ப்பணிப்பும் தியாகமும் இவ்வளவு எளிதாக புறக்கணிக்கப்பட முடியும் என்பதைப் பார்த்தபோது, என் எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றி மீண்டும் சிந்திக்கத் தொடங்கினேன். உண்மையான முயற்சிகளுக்கே அங்கீகாரம் இல்லையென்றால், தொடர்ந்து உழைக்க என்ன ஊக்கம் இருக்கும்? அவர் கட்சியை விட்டு விலக உறுதியான முடிவு எடுத்ததுபோல, நானும் அரசியலை என் படிப்புத் துறையாகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டாம் என்று உறுதியான முடிவு செய்தேன். அதற்குப் பதிலாக, மின்னணுவியல் மற்றும் தகவல் தொடர்பியல் பொறியியல் (Electronics and Communication Engineering) படிக்கப் போகிறேன்.”

அறை முழுவதும் அமைதி நிலவியது.

 My Thoughts on Annamalai and the Future of Tamil Nadu Politics

The recent dramatic developments surrounding former Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai have triggered considerable speculation in political circles. As a senior citizen of Bharat, I have my own assessment of Indian politics based on decades of observation.

In my view, the present administration at the Centre has generally performed better in terms of governance and delivery of public services. While there are certainly shortcomings and areas that require improvement, I believe that, overall, many of its policies have been guided by national interest. Therefore, I appreciate several aspects of its governance.

Annamalai is an exceptional individual. His distinguished career as an IPS officer, his administrative capabilities, and his political foresight have earned him respect across political lines. His detailed exposure of alleged scams and his ability to respond to opponents with facts and confidence have made him one of the most influential political leaders to emerge in Tamil Nadu in recent years.

While the BJP has succeeded in establishing a strong presence across many northern states, Tamil Nadu remains a unique and challenging political landscape shaped by decades of Dravidian politics and a distinct cultural identity. Building political acceptance in such an environment is not easy.

In my opinion, the BJP has lost a highly capable leader in Annamalai. At the same time, Tamil Nadu may benefit from his leadership in the years ahead. The political trends visible in recent elections suggest that voters are increasingly looking for alternatives and may be open to a new political direction in the future. Whether through an7 existing party or a new political platform, capable leaders with administrative experience and a development-oriented vision can play a significant role in shaping the state's future.

I personally believe that if the BJP had contested independently without relying heavily on alliances, it might have secured a stronger electoral performance and possibly won several seats. However, political strategies are often shaped by complex calculations, and only time reveals whether such decisions were correct.

Ultimately, I believe that whatever has happened may contribute to a positive political transformation in Tamil Nadu. Leaders with integrity, administrative competence, and a focus on development are essential for the state's progress. Annamalai possesses many of these qualities, and I hope his experience and leadership continue to benefit the people of Tamil Nadu.

My support is not for any particular political party. I believe in good governance, accountability, and effective delivery of public services. Any leader or party that serves the people sincerely and works for the nation's progress deserves appreciation.

Ramnath never expected a call from his sister Sunandha in Chennai.

“Hello, Anna! How are you? How is everyone at home?” she asked warmly.

“I am fine, Sunandha. What a surprise! After so many years!” Ramnath replied.

“I saw in the newspaper that your grandson Vivek secured an excellent rank in the recent JEE examination and is going to join a prestigious college. Congratulations!”

“Yes,” said Ramnath proudly. “We are all very happy.”

“I am coming to Mysore tomorrow by train. I want to meet all of you.”

After the call ended, Ramnath’s wife Kalpana whispered, “After twelve years, your sister has called. What a surprise!”

“Yes,” said Ramnath thoughtfully. “I never expected it. Ever since our daughter Swapna rejected the proposal to marry her son Satish, she stopped talking to us.”

Just then, the phone rang again. It was Swapna calling from Sydney.

“How are you, Dad?”

“I’m fine. Your aunt Sunandha just called. She is coming to Mysore tomorrow.”

“What? After twelve years? That’s wonderful!” exclaimed Swapna.

Kalpana joined the conversation. “Your aunt misunderstood us when we refused the marriage proposal. The horoscopes did not match, and your grandfather always taught us not to ignore such things.”

The next call came from Vivek, Ramnath’s grandson.

“Hi, Thatha! How are you?”

“I’m doing well, Vivek.”

“I’m coming tomorrow to seek your blessings before joining BITS Hyderabad.”

“That is wonderful news! We will be waiting for you.”

Kalpana was delighted. Vivek was her favorite grandson.

The next morning, Ramnath bought sweets from Bombay Tiffanys for the guests. By afternoon, everyone had arrived. His house in Gokulam was filled with laughter, happiness, and family warmth.

 Recently, I watched a podcast hosted by Rajesh Gowda featuring the versatile actress Tara,Part 2,and I was deeply impressed by the interview. Her simplicity, expressive personality, and, above all, her warm and friendly nature toward everyone were truly admirable.

What touched me most was her honest admission about her fear of seeing dead bodies and how that fear prevented her from paying her last respects to several legendary personalities. She spoke about this emotional aspect of her life with remarkable sincerity and openness.

Her frank discussion about her past experiences was equally inspiring. I also appreciated her disciplined food habits and the interesting stories she shared about her car and driving experiences. Her reflections on how the good old days can never return were heartfelt and thought-provoking.

It was wonderful to hear her fondly remember legendary actresses such as Soundarya and B. Saroja Devi. The conversation beautifully covered her journey spanning more than three and a half decades in they film industry, highlighting her achievements, awards, and invaluable experiences.

Overall, it was an engaging, lively, and emotionally touching interview. The award-winning actress shared her thoughts with great honesty, humility, and_ grace, making the podcast both entertaining and inspiring for viewers.

மைசூரில் வசித்து வந்த ராம்நாத், தனது தங்கை சுனந்தாவிடமிருந்து ஒரு தொலைபேசி அழைப்பு வரும் என்று ஒருபோதும் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை.

“ஹலோ அண்ணா! எப்படி இருக்கிறீர்கள்? வீட்டில் எல்லோரும் நலமாக இருக்கிறார்களா?” என்று அன்புடன் கேட்டாள் சுனந்தா.

“நான் நன்றாக இருக்கிறேன், சுனந்தா. என்ன ஆச்சரியம்! இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு உன் குரலைக் கேட்கிறேன்!” என்று பதிலளித்தார் ராம்நாத்.

“சமீபத்தில் நடந்த ஜே.இ.இ. தேர்வில் உங்கள் பேரன் விவேக் மிகச் சிறந்த தரவரிசை பெற்றிருப்பதாகவும், ஒரு புகழ்பெற்ற கல்லூரியில் சேரப் போவதாகவும் செய்தித்தாளில் படித்தேன். வாழ்த்துகள்!”

“ஆமாம்,” என்று பெருமையுடன் கூறினார் ராம்நாத். “எல்லோருக்கும் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கிறது.”

“நான் நாளை ரயிலில் மைசூருக்கு வருகிறேன். உங்களையும் குடும்பத்தினரையும் சந்திக்க வேண்டும்.”

அழைப்பு முடிந்ததும், ராம்நாத்தின் மனைவி கல்பனா மெதுவாகக் கூறினாள்:

“பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு உங்கள் தங்கை அழைத்திருக்கிறாள். உண்மையிலேயே ஆச்சரியம்தான்!”

“ஆமாம்,” என்று சிந்தனையுடன் கூறினார் ராம்நாத். “நானும் இதை எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. நம் மகள் ஸ்வப்னா, அவளுடைய மகன் சதீஷை திருமணம் செய்ய மறுத்த பிறகு, சுனந்தா நம்மோடு பேசுவதை நிறுத்திவிட்டாள்.”

அப்போது மீண்டும் தொலைபேசி ஒலித்தது. அது ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் சிட்னியில் இருந்த ஸ்வப்னாவின் அழைப்பு.

“எப்படி இருக்கிறீர்கள், அப்பா?”

“நான் நன்றாக இருக்கிறேன். உன் அத்தை சுனந்தா இப்போதுதான் அழைத்தாள். நாளை மைசூருக்கு வருகிறாளாம்.”

“என்ன? பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகா? இது மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியான செய்தி!” என்று உற்சாகமாகக் கூறினாள் ஸ்வப்னா.

அப்போது கல்பனா உரையாடலில் இணைந்தாள்.

“உன் அத்தை நம்மை தவறாகப் புரிந்துகொண்டாள். அந்த திருமணத்தை நாம் மறுத்ததற்குக் காரணம், ஜாதகப் பொருத்தம் சரியாக இல்லாததுதான். ஜாதகப் பொருத்தத்தை அலட்சியப்படுத்தக் கூடாது என்று உன் தாத்தா எப்போதும் சொல்லுவார்.”

அடுத்ததாக வந்த அழைப்பு விவேக்கிடமிருந்து.

“ஹாய் தாத்தா! எப்படி இருக்கிறீர்கள்?”

“நான் நன்றாக இருக்கிறேன், விவேக்.”

“நான் நாளை வந்து உங்கள் ஆசீர்வாதம் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு, பிறகு பிட்ஸ் ஹைதராபாத் கல்லூரியில் சேரப் போகிறேன்.”

“அது மிகச் சிறந்த செய்தி! நாங்கள் உன்னை ஆவலுடன் எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.”

கல்பனாவுக்கு அளவில்லாத மகிழ்ச்சி. விவேக் அவளுடைய மிகவும் பிரியமான பேரன்.

மறுநாள் காலை, விருந்தினர்களுக்காக ராம்நாத் பாம்பே டிஃபனீஸ் கடையில் இருந்து இனிப்புகள் வாங்கினார். மதியத்திற்குள் அனைவரும் வந்து சேர்ந்தனர். கோகுலத்தில் இருந்த அவரது வீடு சிரிப்பாலும், மகிழ்ச்சியாலும், குடும்ப அன்பாலும் நிறைந்திருந்தது.

சில நேரம் கழித்து, சுனந்தா மெதுவாகப் பேசத் தொடங்கினாள்.

“அண்ணா, என்னை மன்னித்துவிடுங்கள். நான் தவறாக நடந்துகொண்டேன். ஸ்வப்னா என் மருமகளாகவில்லை என்ற ஏமாற்றத்தில், உங்களுடன் பேசுவதை நிறுத்திவிட்டேன். அந்த ஏமாற்றம் நமது உறவையே உடைத்துவிட்டது.”

ராம்நாத் அமைதியாகக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

“ஆனால்,” என்று தொடர்ந்தாள் அவள், “விவேக்கின் இந்த அற்புதமான சாதனையைப் பார்த்தபோது, நான் எவ்வளவு முட்டாள்தனமாக நடந்துகொண்டேன் என்பதை உணர்ந்தேன். வெற்றி, கடின உழைப்பு, குடும்ப அன்பு—இவையே வாழ்க்கையில் முக்கியமானவை. பழைய கசப்புகளை விட வேண்டும் என்று முடிவு செய்தேன். உங்களையெல்லாம் சந்தித்து, விவேக்கை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நமது உறவை மீண்டும் புதுப்பிக்க வந்திருக்கிறேன்.”

ராம்நாத்தின் கண்களில் கண்ணீர் ததும்பியது.

“நன்றி, சுனந்தா. என் தங்கையை மீண்டும் பெற்றதுபோல் உணர்கிறேன்.”

சுனந்தா புன்னகைத்தாள்.

“வயதும் அனுபவமும் எனக்கு ஒரு முக்கியமான பாடத்தை கற்றுத்தந்துவிட்டன என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.”

ராம்நாத் தலையசைத்தார்.

“ஆமாம், சுனந்தா. கல்வி என்பது வெறும் அறிவை மட்டும் தருவதில்லை. அது புரிதலையும் தருகிறது. மனிதர்களை நெருக்கமாக இணைக்கவும் செய்கிறது.”

“மிகவும் சரி, அண்ணா,” என்று ஒப்புக்கொண்டாள் அவள்.

அப்போது விவேக்கைச் சுற்றி அனைவரும் கூடி அவனை வாழ்த்தினர். அவன் பெற்ற தரவரிசை ஒரு சிறந்த கல்லூரியில் சேர்வதற்கான வாய்ப்பை மட்டுமல்ல, பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாகப் பிரிந்திருந்த இதயங்களையும் மீண்டும் இணைத்துவிட்டது என்பதை அனைவரும் உணர்ந்தனர்.

நீதி:

உண்மையான கல்வி அறிவை மட்டுமல்ல, ஞானத்தையும் பணிவையும் குடும்ப உறவுகளின் மதிப்பையும் கற்றுத்தருகிறது. மனிதர்களை ஒன்றிணைக்கும்போதுதான் சாதனைகள் உண்மையான அர்த்தத்தைப் பெறுகின்றன.
