LetterPublished in TheNational UAE on29Sep 23 River disputes in India need closure I write in reference to Taniya Dutta's article Indian farmers protest at plan to transfer river water to neighbouring state (September 26): I can appreciate the plight of the farmers in the Indian state of Karnataka who have called for a strike against the recent decision to release 5,000 cubic metres of water daily from the Cauvery River to neighbouring Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days. I can also understand the need for Tamil Nadu to receive its fair share of water. But this dispute has been going on for decades, and no government – state or federal – has been able to resolve it. The one ray of hope is that the political parties running the two state governments are partners in the so-called INDIA alliance. Might they not have the political incentive to resolve the dispute ahead of the 2024 general election? As climate change makes water an ever more precious commodity, it is time for all the stakeholders to come together and arrive at a lasting and amicable settlement. K.Ragavan, Bengaluru,India

Tribute to Bharat785.

Tribute to Bharat 785 In tribute to Bharat ,today I feel compelled to share some thoughts on India. Our country is vast, with a rich tapestry of multicultural religious faiths and beliefs that have been carefully nurtured by generations of leaders. This tradition will undoubtedly continue as India, with its long-term vision and strategies, moves forward smoothly into the future. A significant achievement of the current administration is the passing of the Women's Reservation Bill, a pending matter for decades. While we celebrated this milestone, it was disheartening to see our friend Canada, make allegations against India regarding recent terrorist activities on their soil. Nevertheless, India responded diplomatically, requesting authentic proof for these allegations. During the recent G20 Summit, the Canadian Prime Minister was elated to witness the meeting and the inclusion of the African Union. It is saddening and painful that such allegations have surfaced, given India's standing as the world's largest democracy, with over 1.4 billion people, and its reputation both in the neighborhood and on the global stage. India remains committed to patience, diplomacy, and long-term relationships with all countries. The world was surprised by Canada's recent allegations against India. However, I am confident that our capable and visionary administration, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will address the current situation and protect the millions of Indians living in Canada. I hope that, in due course, the Canadian Prime Minister will come to understand the implications of his hasty actions. In conclusion, I pray that this issue can be resolved amicably, and the Canadian administration takes appropriate action regarding the Khalistan group residing in their country. Jai Bharat, K. LetterPublished in TheNationalUAE on 22Sep23 write in reference to Taniya Dutta’s article India introduces women's reservation bill in parliament (September 19): the Indian government has made a promising start to the proceedings in the new parliament building by passing the women's reservation bill in the lower house. Indian women, indeed all women in the world, need to be empowered. The nation's women have long deserved to be better represented in government at all levels. The only issue is that a clause has been added to the bill, which means that it is likely to take at least 15 years for the legislation to be implemented (assuming the bill clears the upper house and then in a majority of the 28 state assemblies across the country). Nonetheless, this is a positive step for the nation. I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team for their success after years of other parties attempting to pass the bill. Tribute 784.

Tribute to Astrologer Prof. Sundaram Today, I am compelled to share my recollection of an unforgettable incident that occurred to me five decades ago when I was employed as a medical representative in Madurai. Every two months, my company organized a gathering called the Cycle Meeting, which took place in Chennai. On one such occasion, I was returning from Chennai to Madurai on the Tirunelveli Express, traveling in a first-class compartment arranged by my company. While seated in my designated berth, a gentleman across from me smiled and politely inquired if I could exchange my lower berth for his upper one due to his age and difficulty in climbing. I readily agreed, and as night fell, I retired to sleep, only to disembark at Kodai Road station early the next morning. My fellow traveler, sipping coffee, exchanged friendly greetings with me. Afterward, he observed me silently for a few moments, piquing my curiosity. To break the silence, he asked to see my hand, to which I obliged. After a brief examination, he shared a rather intriguing prediction: "Your current profession may not provide ample income, money will flow in and out. Your real success will come only after sixty, when your name will be widely recognized, and people will speak of you." His words left me astounded, as my job's income was sufficient at the time, supplemented by my company's benefits. He continued, "It doesn't mean you won't survive, but your true fame will emerge after sixty, and those who come after you will acknowledge your contributions." I remained genuinely surprised by his insight. An hour later, we arrived at the Madurai station, where a crowd greeted us, garlanded him, and chanted praises for Prof. Sundaram's greatness. As he disembarked, he looked back at me and said, "You will remember me when you turn sixty." Decades have since passed, and I found myself in the UAE, the land of opportunities, at the age of forty-eight in 1993. After serving in the field of risk management for several years, in December 2004, I came across an article in the leading local newspaper, Gulf News, that caught my attention. Inspired, I decided to pen a few words about the featured personality, Krishnamurthy Kannan. To my delight, my article was published the following week, and I began contributing to other newspapers. My passion for writing, nurtured since childhood, bore fruit, and friends started appreciating my articles, bringing me a sense of joy and accomplishment. One day, as I reflected on my journey, I recalled the prediction made by the renowned numerologist and astrologer, Prof. Sundaram. He had also foretold the return of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to power, which indeed materialized. Although I had not been a believer in astrology or numerology, given that no one had predicted my eventual journey abroad, Prof. Sundaram's accurate predictions about my career as a writer and recognition by others led me to reconsider my beliefs. While I may not have achieved monumental success, the satisfaction and happiness derived from my role as a blogger, contributions to various publications, and engagement on popular social platforms validate Prof. Sundaram's prophecy. Today, I pay tribute to this remarkable individual who shared a train journey with me, took an interest in my life, and, in doing so, opened my eyes to the potential of expert predictions. K. Tribute 783.

Tribute to K.M. Veeresh, the Editor, Producer, and Journalist 783 Today, I find myself compelled to express my thoughts about a dear friend whom I first encountered on a popular professional platform over half a decade ago. Over the past three years, our connection has deepened, and this remarkable individual is none other than K.M. Veeresh. His journey in the world of journalism is truly commendable, as he began as a sports journalist and later transitioned into a distinguished photojournalist. K.M. Veeresh's contributions to his field, coupled with his unwavering courage and determination, have given birth to countless photographic stories that no one can overlook. Notably, his creation, "Chitraloka," became the first Kannada Film Portal, earning widespread recognition in the Sandalwood Film Industry and establishing his name as a reputable figure within it. One of the most extraordinary milestones in his career was being featured in the Limca Book of Records, specifically in the 2008 edition. This recognition was a testament to his dedication and expertise, as he organized an exhibition in the Chamber of Commerce, showcasing approximately 2650 photographs. This exhibition chronicled the 72-year-old history of the Kannada film industry, leaving everyone in awe of his remarkable accomplishment. K.M. Veeresh's popularity extends far and wide, making him a beloved personality among film producers, actors, and other industry professionals. Not content with just journalism, he also ventured into film production, collaborating with renowned actors such as Avinash, U. Shetty, and Dayal, as well as the talented cinematographer Suresh Byrasandra. In recent years, I have had the pleasure of watching many of K.M. Veeresh's programs on Chitraloka's YouTube channel and the popular social site Facebook. Among these programs, one that particularly fascinated me was the involvement of charismatic anchors like Mr. Kari Subbu, Musiri Jayasimha, Vasu, and others. His unwavering determination to uplift the Kannada Film Industry in all aspects deserves immense admiration. He has consistently striven to promote and bring deserving yesteryear film actors to his channel, shedding light on their challenges, which is a truly noble gesture from this Photo Editor Journalist. K.M. Veeresh's decades-long involvement and dedication to his field have molded him into a consummate professional. Before I conclude, I must mention that he is not only appreciated by the film fraternity but also cherished by his close associates. With these thoughts in mind, I extend my warm wishes for good health and peaceful days not only to him but also to his mother and entire family. To the best of my knowledge, I have shared these words, and any errors that may be found should be kindly overlooked. With Warm Regards, K. Ragavan September 11, 2023 Until We Meet Again Next Week

The UAE's gratuity scheme will empower millionsLetter Publishedin The National UAE on 8 Sep23 This was an interesting read. The new policy for employees is a laudable step and will surely benefit millions of people employed in the UAE. Private sector personnel will be able to accumulate a sizeable sum at the end of their service to a company. A significant step, it shows the leadership's keen interest in taking care of the country's diverse workforce. People who have put in a number of years' service could take a compounded amount back to their home country, which could go such a long way in helping families, funding education, health and quality of life. There are people from more than 190 countries in the UAE who will be happy to remit sizeable amounts back to their home countries. At the time of retirement, they will be financially empowered and hopefully not have to worry about money in their senior years. Kudos to the UAE for taking this step. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Tribute 782.

Tribute to GoogleBlog and Its Views 782. Today, I am delighted to pay tribute to the rapidly growing social website, Google, and its blogs, which have made a significant impact over the years. I initiated my blog, named "Creativity," back in October 2008, if my memory serves me right. In the initial years, my blog's average monthly views stood at around 1,000. However, in recent months, it has skyrocketed to an impressive 13,000 views per month, which brings me immense joy. I consider myself a humble contributor to Google's vast content ecosystem, and over the course of one and a half decades, this number has increased thirteenfold, marking a substantial improvement. My blog encompasses my letters, articles, and my tribute column. Periodic updates from Google's blog, regarding view numbers and global statistics, provide additional validation for my content. My consistent daily postings, especially my tribute columns dedicated to various personalities, bring me even greater satisfaction. The feedback and appreciation for the individuals I pay tribute to are truly commendable. I sincerely express my gratitude to Google for their fantastic platform, Blogspot.com, and for the diverse readership from around the world who have visited my blog over the years. I am committed to continuing this project, and I am confident that the daily average view numbers will continue to rise in the days to come. With warm regards, K.
