Small Story 177

Small Story 177: "Grandfather's Blessing: A Future of Purpose and Integrity" Ramurthy had just returned from his daily walk. His wife, Pankajam, brought him his favorite tea, without milk or sugar. Despite being diabetic for over twenty years, his sugar levels were under control. His routine of walking for more than an hour and a half each morning and evening, along with his controlled diet, kept him active and energized. His two grandsons, Viswa and Vivek, had recently completed their BSc and Communication degrees, respectively, and were coming from Mysore to seek his advice regarding their future studies. Ramurthy, a retired economics professor who had mentored countless successful students over the years, had always been a source of wisdom and guidance. His grandsons, both from his daughters, had always listened to their grandfather’s advice. The next day, Viswa and Vivek arrived at Ramurthy’s home. Parvathy, their grandmother, was overjoyed to see them. After a hearty lunch, the two grandsons sat on the sofa, gazing at their grandfather. Ramurthy, with a quiet whisper, said, “I appreciate both of you coming to me for advice on your future. It’s important to choose a path that resonates with your heart.” Viswa spoke first, “Grandpa, after seeing so many young graduates migrating abroad due to lack of encouragement, I believe the system needs to change. I want to start an NGO that educates talented graduates about the pride and potential of our country, motivates them, and helps them create startups that generate jobs and profits. I’m working on it and seeking philanthropists’ support for this.” Vivek, eager to share his vision, whispered, “Grandpa, I want to become an investigative journalist, uncover the truth about scams, and hold people accountable.” Ramurthy smiled with pride. “Both of you have made excellent decisions, and I applaud you for that. Dedication, determination, and honest involvement will lead to your success. I bless you both with a bright future.” Hearing their father's wise words, Revathi and Sumathi, his daughters, were equally proud. They wholeheartedly endorsed their brilliant father's opinion, knowing their sons were on the right path. K.Ragavan 7-3-25
