 An Unexpected Reunion

Swamy received a phone call from his friend and former colleague, Laxman, who requested him to accompany him to visit a doctor. Both of them lived in the same apartment complex on different floors. Swamy readily agreed, as they were close friends and were almost the same age, 73. Both their sons had settled abroad.

A little later, Laxman arrived at Swamy’s flat. Swamy’s wife, Smitha, welcomed him warmly and offered him tea and biscuits. After enjoying the refreshments and exchanging a few pleasantries, the two friends prepared to leave.

Swamy was originally from Chennai and had moved to Bengaluru 25 years ago following a job transfer. He had settled down in the city with his family and had built a comfortable life there.

Soon, both friends left for the doctor’s clinic in Laxman’s car.

The doctor had returned from the United Kingdom two years earlier and settled in Bengaluru. With his professional experience, excellent medical knowledge, and reputation as a good physician, he had established a thriving practice. Many patients trusted him for his expertise and personal attention.

At the clinic, Laxman was asked to enter the consultation room, while Swamy waited in the reception area.

After examining Laxman for about twenty minutes, the doctor prescribed some medicines. As Laxman came out and prepared to leave, he searched for his mobile phone to make the payment. To his surprise, he could not find it.

Just then, the doctor came out of his consultation room, holding a mobile phone.

“Mr. Laxman, you have forgotten your mobile phone! Please take it,” he called out.

As the doctor handed the phone to Laxman, his eyes fell on Swamy, who was sitting nearby. Suddenly, he looked closely at him and exclaimed excitedly,

“Hey, Swamy! Is that really you? It has been 45 years since we last met! Can you recognise me?”

Swamy looked at the doctor carefully for a moment. Then, his face lit up with delight.

“Rajagopal! Of course, I recognise you! What a pleasant surprise! I never imagined that I would meet you again after so many decades,” he exclaimed.

The two old friends shook hands warmly, their faces beaming with happiness. The doctor immediately invited Swamy and Laxman into his consultation room, where they began talking excitedly.

Rajagopal was none other than Swamy’s close friend from his younger days. The two had lived in Tambaram, Chennai, and shared a passion for playing trade games. They had spent countless hours together, completely absorbed in the game, often forgetting the passage of time. Those youthful memories remained precious to Swamy, even after so many years.

As they reminisced about their younger days, laughter filled the room. They recalled their old friends, their favourite pastimes, and the wonderful moments they had shared. Neither could believe that nearly 45 years had passed since they had last seen each other.

Rajagopal had become a renowned cardiologist. After spending several years in the United Kingdom, he had returned to India two years earlier and settled in Bengaluru with his wife. Their only daughter was settled in the United States. Interestingly, Rajagopal and his wife lived in an apartment complex close to Swamy’s residence.

What a remarkable coincidence! Two childhood friends who had lost touch for decades were now living just a short distance from each other without knowing it.

Before they parted, Swamy invited Rajagopal and his wife to lunch at his home the following day. He also invited Laxman and his family to join them, as it was Laxman who had unknowingly brought the two old friends together.

The next day, everyone gathered at Swamy’s home for a cheerful lunch. Smitha warmly welcomed Rajagopal and his wife, while Laxman and his family joined in the happy reunion.

Laxman’s wife, Lakshmi, was particularly delighted. She had often heard her husband speak fondly of Swamy’s old friend Rajagopal and the wonderful trade games they had played together in their younger days. She was happy that her husband’s visit to the doctor had unexpectedly reunited two old friends who had shared such beautiful memories.

For Swamy and Rajagopal, the reunion was much more than a chance meeting. It was an opportunity to reconnect with a cherished chapter of their lives and renew a friendship that had remained alive in their memories despite 45 years of separation.

ஸ்வாமிக்கு அவருடைய நண்பரும் முன்னாள் சக ஊழியருமான லக்ஷ்மணிடமிருந்து ஒரு தொலைபேசி அழைப்பு வந்தது. தன்னுடன் மருத்துவரைப் பார்க்க வருமாறு லக்ஷ்மண் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார். இருவரும் ஒரே அடுக்குமாடிக் குடியிருப்பில் வெவ்வேறு தளங்களில் வசித்து வந்தனர். இருவரும் நெருங்கிய நண்பர்கள் மட்டுமல்லாமல், ஏறக்குறைய ஒரே வயதுடையவர்கள்; இருவருக்கும் வயது 73. அவர்களுடைய மகன்கள் இருவரும் வெளிநாடுகளில் குடியேறி வசித்து வந்தனர். எனவே, ஸ்வாமி உடனே அவருடன் வருவதற்குச் சம்மதித்தார்.

சுமார் இருபது நிமிடங்கள் லக்ஷ்மணைப் பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர், அவருக்குத் தேவையான மருந்துகளைப் பரிந்துரைத்தார். பரிசோதனை முடிந்து வெளியே வந்த லக்ஷ்மண், பணம் செலுத்துவதற்காகத் தனது கைப்பேசியைத் தேடினார். ஆனால், அவரால் அதைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை.

அப்போது, மருத்துவர் தனது அறையிலிருந்து ஒரு கைப்பேசியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வெளியே வந்தார்.

“திரு. லக்ஷ்மண், உங்கள் கைப்பேசியை இங்கேயே மறந்துவிட்டீர்கள்! இதை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்!” என்று அழைத்தார்.

மருத்துவர் கைப்பேசியை லக்ஷ்மணிடம் கொடுக்கும்போது, அருகில் அமர்ந்திருந்த ஸ்வாமியின் மீது அவரது பார்வை விழுந்தது. ஸ்வாமியை உற்றுப் பார்த்த அவர், திடீரென்று உற்சாகத்துடன்,

“அடடா, ஸ்வாமி! உண்மையிலேயே நீதானா இது? நாம் கடைசியாகச் சந்தித்து 45 ஆண்டுகள் ஆகிவிட்டனவே! என்னை உன்னால் அடையாளம் கண்டுகொள்ள முடிகிறதா?” என்று ஆச்சரியத்துடன் கேட்டார்.

ஸ்வாமி அந்த மருத்துவரைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்தார். ஒரு கணம் கழித்து, அவரது முகம் மகிழ்ச்சியால் மலர்ந்தது.

“ராஜகோபால்! நிச்சயமாக உன்னை அடையாளம் கண்டுகொண்டேன்! என்ன ஓர் இனிய ஆச்சரியம்! இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு உன்னை மீண்டும் சந்திப்பேன் என்று நான் கனவில்கூட நினைக்கவில்லை!” என்று மகிழ்ச்சிப் பெருக்குடன் கூறினார்.

நீண்ட காலத்திற்குப் பிறகு சந்தித்த அந்த இரு பழைய நண்பர்களும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கைகுலுக்கிக்கொண்டனர். அவர்களுடைய முகங்களில் அளவற்ற சந்தோஷம் தென்பட்டது. உடனே மருத்துவர், ஸ்வாமியையும் லக்ஷ்மணையும் தனது ஆலோசனை அறைக்குள் வருமாறு அழைத்தார். அங்கே மூவரும் உற்சாகமாகப் பேசத் தொடங்கினர்.

 A New Journey and a Promising Film

Kishore and Rekha visited their friend Vijay’s house to wish him a safe and pleasant journey to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that night.

Kishore and Vijay had been close friends for more than fifteen years, ever since their school days. Vijay was a well-established cinematographer who had made a distinct mark in the film industry and the world of creative advertising. With over eighteen years of experience, he had earned several accolades for his dedication and creative talent.

This time, Vijay was travelling to Dubai to work on a film that would be shot entirely in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The film was being produced by a popular Kannada film producer and director and would be made in four languages, featuring well-known actors. The story was based on a popular short novel by the author Rajesh.

Vijay and his wife, Nirmala, warmly welcomed Kishore and Rekha and served them snacks. During their conversation, Kishore learned that this was Vijay’s first foreign trip in his long professional career.

“Vijay, enjoy your stay in Dubai and make the most of this wonderful opportunity. I hope you capture some beautiful locations. Having read Rajesh’s story, I understand that Dubai plays an important role in the film. I am sure your cinematography will bring the story to life,” Kishore said enthusiastically.

Rekha leaned towards Kishore and whispered, “Yes, Anna! It is a beautiful story with a refreshing concept, without violence or unnecessary sexual content. I believe audiences will appreciate this different approach. Rajesh has published five books, and all of them are very good. I am confident that this film will make a strong impression.”

Vijay smiled and replied, “The director wants to provide wholesome entertainment with a meaningful message. We have to complete the shooting schedule in twenty-eight days, so it will be a demanding assignment. Considering the ongoing crisis in the region, we are naturally concerned about the situation. Nevertheless, Dubai has been selected as the shooting location, and we hope everything will proceed smoothly. Dubai is a globally recognised destination, and we look forward to making the most of its beautiful locations.”

Kishore and Rekha wished Vijay good luck and conveyed their best wishes to Nirmala as well. They hoped the shooting would be completed successfully and that the film would receive appreciation from audiences in all four languages.

After bidding farewell to their friends, Kishore and Rekha proceeded to a beautiful temple near their house to seek the Almighty’s blessings. They prayed for Vijay’s safe journey, a successful shooting schedule, and the eventual success of the film.

After their temple visit, the couple stopped at a new restaurant near Judicial Layout. They enjoyed their meal and spent some pleasant time together before returning happily to their home in J. P. Nagar.

Both felt happy that their dear friend was embarking on a new professional journey. They hoped his first overseas assignment would bring him valuable experience, new achievements, and lasting memories, while the film would entertain audiences and convey a meaningful message.

கிஷோரும் ரேகாவும் அன்று இரவு ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகத்தின் துபாய்க்குப் பயணம் மேற்கொள்ளவிருந்த தங்களுடைய நண்பர் விஜய்யை வாழ்த்துவதற்காக அவரது வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றனர்.

A Gesture Never Forgotten

Siddesh boarded the bus and settled into his reserved seat. The bus was about to depart for Hassan via Channarayapatna. He was travelling to attend the birthday celebration of his close friend Mahesh’s son.

Mahesh wanted to celebrate the occasion grandly because his son had been born after five years of waiting. Siddesh and Mahesh had been close friends since their college days. After completing their studies, both had joined a reputed IT company and built successful careers. Mahesh was now working in Bengaluru, while Siddesh was employed in Mysore.

Just as the bus was about to start, an elderly man approached Siddesh’s window.

“Where are you going, young man?” he asked politely.

“To Channarayapatna,” Siddesh replied.

“Could you please do me a small favour? Would you post this cover for me? I have already put a stamp on it,” the old man requested.

Siddesh accepted the cover without hesitation. The bus started moving, and he settled comfortably into his seat.

A little later, he glanced at the cover and noticed that the address was written in Kannada. To his utter surprise, the recipient’s name was Mahesh, his very own friend! He wondered how the elderly man knew Mahesh and decided that, instead of posting the letter, he would hand it over personally. He felt that his friend would be pleased to receive it directly.

After a journey of two and a half hours, the bus reached Channarayapatna. Siddesh went to Mahesh’s house, blessed the birthday boy, and presented him with a battery-operated toy car. Mahesh, his wife, and his parents welcomed Siddesh warmly.

After enjoying a delicious lunch and spending some pleasant time with the family, Siddesh remembered the cover.

“Mahesh, someone at the bus stop gave me this letter to post. When I noticed your name and address on it, I thought I would hand it over to you personally,” he explained.

Mahesh looked puzzled. He did not recognise the handwriting and could not immediately recall anyone who might have sent him a letter.

He opened the cover and began reading. Within moments, tears of joy rolled down his cheeks.

Noticing his friend's emotional reaction, Siddesh asked gently, “Mahesh, what is it? Who has written this letter?”

Mahesh leaned towards him and whispered, “Siddesh, this letter is from my Kannada-medium teacher, who taught me during my secondary school days.

“I met him five years ago. He seemed deeply troubled, so I asked him what was wrong. He told me that he had borrowed money to support his son's business, but the business had failed. He was unable to repay the loan, and his house was about to be sold to settle the debt.

“The amount he needed urgently was only ₹10,000. Without thinking twice, I gave him the money. I had completely forgotten about it over the years.

“Today, five years later, he has returned the entire amount through this bank draft, along with this letter. He must have come to know that today was my son's birthday and wanted to ensure that his letter reached me on this special occasion.”

Siddesh was deeply moved by the story. He looked at the bank draft, which was made out in Mahesh’s name, and understood why his friend had been overwhelmed with emotion.

For Mahesh, the money was not the most important thing. What touched him deeply was his former teacher’s honesty, gratitude, and determination to repay a debt even after five long years.

After returning to Mysore, Siddesh kept thinking about the elderly teacher. He decided that he would visit him one day and express his admiration for his noble character. However, before Siddesh could arrange the visit, he learnt that the teacher had left to stay with his son in Kollegal.

Though he had missed the opportunity to meet the teacher, the incident remained etched in Siddesh’s memory.

What had begun as an ordinary bus journey to attend a birthday celebration had turned into an unforgettable experience.

Siddesh realised that kindness is never wasted, gratitude never loses its value, and honesty shines brightest when no one expects anything in return.

மறக்க முடியாத ஒரு நற்செயல்

சித்தேஷ் பேருந்தில் ஏறி, தனக்காக முன்பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்தார். அந்தப் பேருந்து சன்னராயப்பட்டணா வழியாக ஹாசனை நோக்கிப் புறப்படத் தயாராக இருந்தது. தனது நெருங்கிய நண்பரான மகேஷின் மகன் பிறந்தநாள் விழாவில் கலந்துகொள்வதற்காக அவர் பயணம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்தார்.

ஐந்து ஆண்டுகள் காத்திருந்த பிறகு மகேஷுக்குக் குழந்தை பிறந்திருந்ததால், தனது மகனின் பிறந்தநாளைச் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாட வேண்டும் என்று அவர் விரும்பினார். சித்தேஷும் மகேஷும் கல்லூரியில் படித்த காலத்திலிருந்தே நெருங்கிய நண்பர்கள். படிப்பை முடித்த பிறகு இருவரும் ஒரு புகழ்பெற்ற தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனத்தில் பணியில் சேர்ந்து, தங்களுடைய வாழ்க்கையில் நல்ல முன்னேற்றத்தை அடைந்தனர். மகேஷ் பெங்களூருவிலும், சித்தேஷ் மைசூரிலும் பணிபுரிந்து வந்தனர்.

“தம்பி, எங்கே செல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று பணிவுடன் கேட்டார்.

“சன்னராயப்பட்டணாவுக்குச் செல்கிறேன்,” என்று சித்தேஷ் பதிலளித்தார்.

“தம்பி, எனக்கு ஒரு சிறிய உதவி செய்ய முடியுமா? இந்தக் கடிதத்தை அஞ்சலில் சேர்த்துவிடுகிறீர்களா? இதற்கான அஞ்சல் தலைகூட ஒட்டிவிட்டேன்,” என்று அந்த முதியவர் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

சித்தேஷும் தயக்கமின்றிக் கடித உறையைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். பேருந்து புறப்பட்டது. அவர் வசதியாக அமர்ந்துகொண்டு பயணத்தைத் தொடர்ந்தார்.

சிறிது நேரத்திற்குப் பிறகு, கையில் இருந்த கடித உறையைப் பார்த்தார். அதன் முகவரி கன்னட மொழியில் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது. அதைப் படித்தபோது அவருக்குப் பெரும் ஆச்சரியம் ஏற்பட்டது. ஏனெனில், கடிதம் யாருக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டிருந்ததோ, அந்த நபரின் பெயர் மகேஷ்! அவர் சித்தேஷின் நெருங்கிய நண்பரே!

அந்த முதியவருக்கு மகேஷை எப்படித் தெரியும் என்று சித்தேஷ் வியந்தார். கடிதத்தை அஞ்சலில் சேர்ப்பதற்குப் பதிலாக, நண்பரிடம் நேரடியாகக் கொடுத்துவிடலாம் என்று முடிவு செய்தார். கடிதத்தை நேரில் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதில் மகேஷுக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி ஏற்படும் என்று அவர் நினைத்தார்.

சித்தேஷ் மகேஷின் வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றார். பிறந்தநாள் கொண்டாடிய சிறுவனை வாழ்த்திவிட்டு, அவனுக்கு மின்கலத்தால் இயங்கும் ஒரு பொம்மைக் காரைப் பரிசாக வழங்கினார். மகேஷ், அவரது மனைவி மற்றும் பெற்றோர் சித்தேஷை அன்புடன் வரவேற்றனர்.

சுவையான மதிய உணவைச் சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு, குடும்பத்தினருடன் சிறிது நேரம் மகிழ்ச்சியாகப் பொழுதைக் கழித்தார் சித்தேஷ். அப்போது தன்னிடம் இருந்த கடித உறை அவருக்கு நினைவுக்கு வந்தது.

“மகேஷ், பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் ஒருவர் இந்தக் கடிதத்தை என்னிடம் கொடுத்து அஞ்சலில் சேர்க்கச் சொன்னார். அதில் உன்னுடைய பெயரும் முகவரியும் இருந்ததைப் பார்த்ததும், நேரிலேயே உன்னிடம் கொடுத்துவிடலாம் என்று நினைத்தேன்,” என்று சித்தேஷ் விளக்கினார்.

மகேஷ் குழப்பத்துடன் அந்தக் கடிதத்தைப் பார்த்தார். அதில் இருந்த கையெழுத்தை அவரால் அடையாளம் காண முடியவில்லை. தனக்குக் கடிதம் அனுப்பக்கூடியவர் யாராக இருக்கலாம் என்பதும் உடனடியாக நினைவுக்கு வரவில்லை.

அவர் கடித உறையைத் திறந்து படிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். சில நொடிகளிலேயே அவரது கண்களில் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர் வழிந்தது.

நண்பரின் உணர்ச்சிபூர்வமான நிலையைக் கவனித்த சித்தேஷ் மெதுவாகக் கேட்டார்:

“மகேஷ், என்ன நடந்தது? இந்தக் கடிதத்தை எழுதியது யார்?”

மகேஷ் சித்தேஷின் அருகில் சாய்ந்து மெதுவாகக் கூறினார்:

“சித்தேஷ், இந்தக் கடிதத்தை எழுதியிருப்பவர் நான் மேல்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் படித்தபோது எனக்குக் கன்னட மொழியில் பாடம் கற்பித்த ஆசிரியர்.

“ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு அவரைச் சந்தித்தேன். அவர் மிகவும் கவலையுடன் காணப்பட்டார். என்ன பிரச்சினை என்று கேட்டபோது, தன்னுடைய மகனின் தொழிலுக்கு உதவுவதற்காகக் கடன் வாங்கியதாகவும், ஆனால் அந்தத் தொழில் நஷ்டமடைந்துவிட்டதாகவும் கூறினார். வாங்கிய கடனைத் திருப்பிச் செலுத்த முடியாததால், கடனை அடைப்பதற்காகத் தனது வீட்டையே விற்க வேண்டிய நிலை ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும் தெரிவித்தார்.

“அவருக்கு அவசரமாகத் தேவைப்பட்ட தொகை வெறும் ₹10,000 மட்டுமே. நான் எதையும் யோசிக்காமல் அந்தப் பணத்தைக் கொடுத்தேன். அதன் பிறகு, காலப்போக்கில் அந்தச் சம்பவத்தையே முற்றிலும் மறந்துவிட்டேன்.

“இன்று, ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு, அவர் வாங்கிய முழுத் தொகையையும் இந்த வங்கிப் பணவரைவோலையுடன் திருப்பி அனுப்பியிருக்கிறார். அதனுடன் இந்தக் கடிதத்தையும் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்.

“இன்று என் மகனுக்குப் பிறந்தநாள் என்பதை அவர் எப்படியோ தெரிந்துகொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும். இந்தச் சிறப்பான நாளில் அவருடைய கடிதம் என்னைச் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்திருக்கலாம்.”

நண்பர் கூறியதைக் கேட்ட சித்தேஷின் மனம் நெகிழ்ந்தது. மகேஷின் பெயரில் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்த வங்கிப் பணவரைவோலையைப் பார்த்தபோது, நண்பர் ஏன் இவ்வளவு உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டார் என்பதை அவரால் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடிந்தது.

 A Role Model Worth Following

Ramesh arrived at his friend Kishan’s house to attend a small get-together organised to honour their dear friend Vikas, who had recently been promoted to the position of Branch Manager at their bank.

As Vikas did not wish to celebrate his promotion with a grand party, the gathering was limited to ten close friends and colleagues. Kishan and the others warmly welcomed Ramesh, who was a good friend and respected colleague of everyone present.

Ramesh was well known for his excellent rapport with customers, courteous behaviour, and commitment to providing quality service. His dedication and willingness to help others had earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

As the gathering was scheduled for 5 p.m., the friends had arranged light refreshments, including Vikas’s favourite sweet, badam cake. Vikas’s wife warmly welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming together to honour her husband on his achievement.

After enjoying the delicious refreshments, everyone congratulated Vikas on his well-deserved promotion. They were particularly impressed by the fact that he had achieved this milestone within a relatively short period, thanks to his efficiency, sincerity, and outstanding performance in the same branch.

When it was his turn to speak, Vikas expressed his gratitude to all his friends and colleagues.

தனது வங்கிக் கிளையில் மேலாளராகப் பதவி உயர்வு பெற்ற தனது அன்பு நண்பர் விகாஸைப் பாராட்டி வாழ்த்துவதற்காக ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்த சிறிய நண்பர்கள் சந்திப்பில் கலந்துகொள்ள ரமேஷ், தனது நண்பர் கிஷனின் வீட்டிற்கு வந்தார்.

“சாதாரணமான ஒரு பணியில் இருப்பவர்கூட, மற்றவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் அசாதாரணமான மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்த முடியும் என்பதை ரமேஷ் நிரூபித்திருக்கிறார். கல்வியின் மீது அவர் கொண்டுள்ள அக்கறையும், தகுதியான மாணவர்களுக்கு உதவ வேண்டும் என்ற உயர்ந்த எண்ணமும் நான் எனது புதிய பொறுப்பில் பின்பற்ற விரும்பும் சிறந்த பண்புகளாகும்.

“இந்தப் பதவி உயர்வை எனது தனிப்பட்ட வளர்ச்சிக்கான வாய்ப்பாக மட்டும் நான் கருதவில்லை. மக்களுக்கு இன்னும் சிறப்பாகச் சேவை செய்ய வேண்டிய பொறுப்பாகவும் இதைக் கருதுகிறேன். தகுதியுள்ள மாணவர்களை ஊக்குவிப்பதற்கும், சமூகத்திற்கு நன்மை பயக்கும் முயற்சிகளுக்கு ஆதரவளிப்பதற்கும் என்னால் இயன்ற அனைத்தையும் செய்வேன்.”

விகாஸின் மனமார்ந்த உரை அங்கு கூடியிருந்த அனைவரின் உள்ளங்களையும் தொட்டது. ரமேஷின் வழியைப் பின்பற்ற அவர் எடுத்த முடிவை நண்பர்கள் கைத்தட்டி வரவேற்றனர். புதிய பதவியில் அவர் கடைப்பிடிக்க விரும்பிய உயர்ந்த கொள்கைகளையும் அனைவரும் பாராட்டினர்.

விகாஸ் தன்னைப் பற்றிப் பெருமையாகப் பேசியதைக் கேட்ட ரமேஷ் மனம் நெகிழ்ந்தார். மாணவர்களுக்கு உதவியதற்காகப் பாராட்டுகளையோ அங்கீகாரத்தையோ அவர் ஒருபோதும் எதிர்பார்த்ததில்லை. தகுதியுள்ள ஒரு மாணவருக்குக் கல்விக் கடன் கிடைக்க உதவுவது என்பது சமூகத்தின் மீதான தனது கடமை என்றே அவர் கருதினார்.

நண்பர்களின் சந்திப்பு இனிய உரையாடல்களுடனும் மகிழ்ச்சியான பழைய நினைவுகளைப் பகிர்ந்துகொள்வதுடனும் தொடர்ந்து நடைபெற்றது. சுமார் ஒரு மணி நேரம் ஒன்றாக மகிழ்ச்சியாகப் பொழுதைக் கழித்த பிறகு, அனைவரும் முகத்தில் புன்னகையுடன் விடைபெற்றுச் சென்றனர்.

அந்தச் சந்திப்பு அனைவரது மனதிலும் ஒரு சிறந்த செய்தியைப் பதிய வைத்தது:

“பதவியோ அதிகாரமோ ஒருவரை உயர்ந்தவராக்குவதில்லை; பிறருடைய வாழ்க்கையில் அவர் ஏற்படுத்தும் நல்ல மாற்றங்களே அவரை உண்மையிலேயே உயர்ந்தவராக்குகின்றன. பிறருக்கு உதவும் நல்ல உள்ளமும், சமூகத்தின் மீதான பொறுப்புணர்வும் ஒவ்வொருவரிடமும் வளர வேண்டும். அதுவே நாம் பின்பற்ற வேண்டிய சிறந்த முன்மாதிரி!”

 A Misunderstanding Cleared

Shreya never expected to receive a phone call from Nirupa inviting her and her family to attend the Navaratri celebrations at her house on one of the festive days.

For the past two years, Nirupa had not invited Shreya to her celebrations. Shreya had assumed that Nirupa no longer wished to maintain their friendship and had quietly accepted the situation. Therefore, this unexpected invitation came as a pleasant surprise.

Her husband, Ravi, was delighted to hear about the invitation. He was particularly eager to meet Bhaskar, a well-known writer whose books he admired.

Three days later, Shreya and Ravi arrived at Nirupa's independent house in the Padmanabhanagar area. Nirupa and Bhaskar warmly welcomed them. The beautifully arranged Golu dolls, colourful lights, and floral decorations created a wonderful festive atmosphere. Their son, Vishnu, who was studying in the seventh grade, also greeted the guests.

There were no other guests at that time. After serving them juice, Nirupa explained, "I have prepared a mini brunch for everyone. We can all enjoy it after 7:15 p.m."

Meanwhile, Bhaskar and Ravi began discussing various subjects. Ravi expressed his admiration for Bhaskar's books, which were very popular among readers. Bhaskar was equally pleased to meet someone who appreciated his writing so much.

While the two men continued their conversation, Nirupa sat with Shreya and began explaining the reason behind her earlier silence.

"Shreya, this is the third year we are celebrating Navaratri at our home. During the first year, two of our relatives passed away shortly after the second day of the celebrations. We were deeply saddened and stopped inviting people. Unfortunately, the same thing happened last year as well. We were worried and decided to keep the celebrations private.

"This year, however, I wanted to resume inviting our friends. You are one of my closest and most trusted friends, so I decided to invite you first. You are the first friend I have invited this year, and I am very happy that everything has gone well so far.

"My other friends will be visiting after three days, and we have also planned to invite friends from our neighbourhood. I hope we can celebrate the remaining days with happiness and peace."

Shreya listened carefully. Nirupa's explanation immediately cleared the misunderstanding that had troubled her for two years.

After enjoying a delicious brunch with two varieties of sweets, Shreya and Ravi took their leave. Nirupa and Bhaskar presented them with gifts and bid them farewell warmly.

As they drove home, Ravi turned to his wife and said, "Shreya, I know you thought Nirupa had forgotten us during the past two years. But now you understand the real reason. She considers you a good friend and wanted you to be the first person she invited this year. You should feel happy about that."

Shreya smiled with relief.

"Yes, Ravi. I had misunderstood her silence and assumed that she no longer valued our friendship. Today, her explanation has made me realise how wrong my assumption was. I am glad I did not allow my doubts to destroy our friendship."

Ravi was also delighted that he had finally met Bhaskar, the writer whose books he admired so much. Although Bhaskar did not know the full background of Shreya's misunderstanding, Ravi's happiness after meeting his favourite author made the visit even more memorable.

Shreya returned home with a peaceful heart. She had learned an important lesson: Silence does not always mean rejection, and the absence of an invitation does not necessarily mean the absence of affection.

Sometimes, a simple conversation is enough to clear years of misunderstanding and restore the warmth of a genuine friendship.

 தவறான புரிதல் நீங்கியது

ஷ்ரேயாவுக்கு நிருபாவிடமிருந்து ஒரு தொலைபேசி அழைப்பு வரும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கவே இல்லை. நவராத்திரி விழாவின் ஒரு நாளில் தன்னுடைய வீட்டில் நடைபெறும் கொண்டாட்டத்திற்கு ஷ்ரேயாவையும் அவரது குடும்பத்தினரையும் நிருபா அன்புடன் அழைத்தார்.

கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக நிருபா தனது வீட்டில் நடைபெற்ற நவராத்திரி விழாவிற்கு ஷ்ரேயாவை அழைக்கவில்லை. அதனால், நிருபா இனிமேல் தங்களுடைய நட்பைத் தொடர விரும்பவில்லை என்று ஷ்ரேயா நினைத்துக் கொண்டார். அந்தச் சூழ்நிலையை அமைதியாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டும் விட்டார். எனவே, எதிர்பாராத விதமாக வந்த இந்த அழைப்பு அவருக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியையும் ஆச்சரியத்தையும் அளித்தது.

ஷ்ரேயாவின் கணவர் ரவிக்கும் இந்த அழைப்பு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியை அளித்தது. குறிப்பாக, தான் பெரிதும் மதிக்கும் பிரபல எழுத்தாளரான பாஸ்கரைச் சந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவல் அவருக்கு அதிகமாக இருந்தது. பாஸ்கர் எழுதிய புத்தகங்களை ரவி மிகவும் விரும்பிப் படித்திருந்தார்.

மூன்று நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு, ஷ்ரேயாவும் ரவியும் பத்மநாபநகர் பகுதியில் அமைந்திருந்த நிருபாவின் தனி வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றனர். நிருபாவும் பாஸ்கரும் அவர்களை அன்புடன் வரவேற்றனர்.

அழகாக அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட கொலு பொம்மைகள், வண்ணமயமான விளக்குகள், மலர் அலங்காரங்கள் ஆகியவை அந்த வீட்டிற்கு ஒரு சிறப்பான பண்டிகைச் சூழலை ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்தன. ஏழாம் வகுப்பில் படித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த அவர்களுடைய மகன் விஷ்ணுவும் விருந்தினர்களை அன்புடன் வரவேற்றான்.

அந்த நேரத்தில் வேறு விருந்தினர்கள் யாரும் வரவில்லை. அவர்களுக்கு முதலில் பழச்சாறு வழங்கப்பட்டது. பின்னர் நிருபா, “நம் அனைவருக்காகவும் சிறிய அளவில் ஒரு சிறப்பு விருந்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்திருக்கிறேன். மாலை 7.15 மணிக்குப் பிறகு நாம் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து சாப்பிடலாம்” என்று கூறினார்.

இதற்கிடையில், பாஸ்கரும் ரவியும் பல்வேறு விஷயங்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசத் தொடங்கினர். வாசகர்களிடையே மிகவும் பிரபலமாக விளங்கிய பாஸ்கரின் புத்தகங்களைப் பற்றித் தனது பாராட்டுகளையும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் ரவி வெளிப்படுத்தினார். தனது எழுத்துகளை இவ்வளவு ஆர்வத்துடனும் மதிப்புடனும் பாராட்டும் ஒருவரைச் சந்தித்ததில் பாஸ்கருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது.

இருவரும் தங்களுடைய உரையாடலில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தபோது, நிருபா ஷ்ரேயாவுடன் அமர்ந்து, கடந்த காலத்தில் தான் அவரை அழைக்காமல் இருந்ததற்கான காரணத்தை விளக்கத் தொடங்கினார்.

“ஷ்ரேயா, எங்கள் வீட்டில் நவராத்திரி கொண்டாடுவது இந்த ஆண்டுடன் மூன்றாவது வருடம். முதல் வருடம், விழாவின் இரண்டாவது நாளுக்குப் பிறகு எங்களுடைய உறவினர்கள் இருவர் அடுத்தடுத்து இறந்துவிட்டார்கள். அது எங்களுக்கு மிகுந்த மனவேதனையை ஏற்படுத்தியது. அதனால், மற்றவர்களை விழாவிற்கு அழைப்பதை நிறுத்திவிட்டோம்.

“துரதிர்ஷ்டவசமாக, கடந்த ஆண்டும் அதேபோன்ற சம்பவம் மீண்டும் நடந்தது. இதனால் நாங்கள் மிகவும் கவலைப்பட்டோம். எனவே, நவராத்திரி கொண்டாட்டங்களை எங்கள் குடும்பத்திற்குள் மட்டும் வைத்துக்கொள்ள முடிவு செய்தோம்.

“ஆனால், இந்த ஆண்டு மீண்டும் எங்கள் நண்பர்களை அழைத்து விழாவைக் கொண்டாட வேண்டும் என்று விரும்பினேன். நீ என்னுடைய மிக நெருங்கிய, நம்பிக்கைக்குரிய தோழிகளில் ஒருத்தி. அதனால், இந்த ஆண்டு முதன்முதலில் உன்னைத்தான் அழைக்க வேண்டும் என்று முடிவு செய்தேன்.

“இந்த ஆண்டு நான் அழைத்த முதல் தோழி நீதான். இதுவரை எல்லாம் நல்லபடியாக நடந்து கொண்டிருப்பதில் எனக்கு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சி.

“இன்னும் மூன்று நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு என்னுடைய மற்ற தோழிகளும் வருவார்கள். எங்கள் அக்கம்பக்கத்தில் வசிக்கும் நண்பர்களையும் அழைக்கத் திட்டமிட்டிருக்கிறோம். மீதமுள்ள நவராத்திரி நாட்களும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடனும் அமைதியுடனும் நடைபெறும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்” என்று நிருபா தனது மனதில் இருந்ததைத் தெளிவாக எடுத்துரைத்தார்.

ஷ்ரேயா நிருபா கூறிய அனைத்தையும் கவனமாகக் கேட்டார். அவரது விளக்கம், கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக ஷ்ரேயாவின் மனதில் இருந்த தவறான புரிதலை உடனடியாக நீக்கியது.

இரண்டு வகையான இனிப்புகளுடன் சுவையான சிறப்பு விருந்தைச் சாப்பிட்டு மகிழ்ந்த பிறகு, ஷ்ரேயாவும் ரவியும் விடைபெறத் தயாரானார்கள். நிருபாவும் பாஸ்கரும் அவர்களுக்குப் பரிசுகளை வழங்கி, அன்புடன் வழியனுப்பி வைத்தனர்.

வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிச் செல்லும் வழியில், ரவி தனது மனைவியைப் பார்த்துக் கூறினார்:

“ஷ்ரேயா, கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக நிருபா நம்மை மறந்துவிட்டாள் என்று நீ நினைத்தது எனக்குத் தெரியும். ஆனால், இப்போது அவள் அழைக்காமல் இருந்ததற்கான உண்மையான காரணத்தை நீ புரிந்துகொண்டிருப்பாய். அவள் உன்னை ஒரு நல்ல தோழியாகக் கருதுகிறாள். அதனால்தான் இந்த ஆண்டு முதலில் உன்னை அழைக்க விரும்பியிருக்கிறாள். இதற்காக நீ மகிழ்ச்சியடைய வேண்டும்.”

ஷ்ரேயா மனநிம்மதியுடன் புன்னகைத்தார்.

“ஆமாம், ரவி. நிருபா அமைதியாக இருந்ததைத் தவறாகப் புரிந்துகொண்டு, அவள் இனிமேல் நம்முடைய நட்புக்கு மதிப்பளிக்கவில்லை என்று நினைத்துவிட்டேன். ஆனால், இன்று அவள் கூறிய விளக்கம் என்னுடைய எண்ணம் எவ்வளவு தவறானது என்பதை உணர்த்திவிட்டது. என்னுடைய சந்தேகங்கள் நம்முடைய நட்பைச் சிதைத்துவிட நான் அனுமதிக்கவில்லை என்பதில் இப்போது மகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறேன்” என்றார் ஷ்ரேயா.

தான் மிகவும் விரும்பிப் படித்த எழுத்தாளர் பாஸ்கரை நேரில் சந்தித்ததில் ரவிக்கும் அளவற்ற மகிழ்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது. ஷ்ரேயாவின் மனதில் இருந்த தவறான புரிதலைப் பற்றிய முழுப் பின்னணியும் பாஸ்கருக்குத் தெரியாது என்றாலும், தனக்குப் பிடித்த எழுத்தாளரைச் சந்தித்த மகிழ்ச்சி அந்தச் சந்திப்பை மேலும் மறக்க முடியாததாக மாற்றியது.

ஷ்ரேயா மனதில் நிம்மதியுடனும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடனும் வீடு திரும்பினார்.

அன்றைய சந்திப்பு அவருக்கு ஒரு முக்கியமான வாழ்க்கைப் பாடத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தது:

மௌனம் என்பது எப்போதும் புறக்கணிப்பைக் குறிக்காது. அழைப்பு வராதது, அன்பு இல்லை என்பதற்கான அடையாளமும் அல்ல.

சில நேரங்களில், ஒரு சிறிய உரையாடலே பல ஆண்டுகளாக மனதில் இருந்த தவறான புரிதல்களை நீக்கி, உண்மையான நட்பின் அன்பையும் நெருக்கத்தையும் மீண்டும் மலரச் செய்துவிடும்.

Blessing in Disguise

Ganesh was seated on a bus bound for Mysore. After discussing his future with his father and mother, he had decided to pursue a one-year course in Blogging and Storytelling. He had recently completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry and was eager to explore his passion for writing and creativity.

The course was offered at the Mysore campus of New Blogging Paradise. It had been launched just two years earlier with only ten students. Today, it had grown remarkably, attracting sixty students from different parts of India, along with two students from the UAE.

As Ganesh settled into his seat, a sweet voice interrupted his thoughts.

“Excuse me, is anyone going to occupy the seat next to you?”

“Sorry, nobody is coming. I kept my bag there by oversight. Please sit down,” Ganesh replied, immediately removing his bag and making room for her.

“Thank you! My name is Nivedha. I am going to Mysore to join New Blogging Paradise,” she said with a pleasant smile.

“Really? I am going there too, to join the same course!” Ganesh exclaimed.

Nivedha was delighted to hear that.

“That is nice!” she whispered.

She then explained, “I completed my B.Sc. in Chemistry last year. My father and mother suggested that I consider this course, and I gradually developed a liking for the concept myself.”

“That's wonderful! I have a similar story. I completed my B.Sc. in Chemistry recently, and my parents encouraged me to follow my interests. I, too, became fascinated by the idea of Blogging and Storytelling,” Ganesh replied.

Their conversation continued, and they soon discovered that they shared similar educational backgrounds, interests, and ambitions.

Suddenly, Nivedha revealed something that surprised Ganesh.

“You know, my cousin is also supposed to join this course. I am looking forward to meeting him there. He is my father's sister's son. He studied in Madurai, but we haven't met for many years. I wonder how surprised he will be when he sees me!”

Ganesh smiled and said, “You must be feeling excited and a little nervous, wondering how he will react after all these years.”

“Yes, exactly!” Nivedha replied, smiling.

Both continued chatting throughout the journey. Their conversation made the time pass quickly, and after two and a half hours, the bus finally reached Mysore.

Since they were both heading to the same campus, they decided to share a cab. After a fifteen-minute drive, they arrived at New Blogging Paradise.

During the journey, Nivedha found herself wondering what her cousin would be like. Would he be a handsome young man like Ganesh? She stole a discreet glance at Ganesh and smiled to herself.

Meanwhile, Ganesh was having a similar thought. He wondered whether Nivedha's cousin would be as handsome as he imagined. Neither of them realised how amusing their thoughts were!

As they got down from the cab and entered the campus, Nivedha's mobile phone rang. It was her father.

“Hello, Nivedha! Have you reached Mysore safely?” he asked.

“Yes, Dad. I have just reached the campus,” she replied.

Her father then shared some unexpected news.

“I wanted to tell you something important. Your cousin has joined a university in Dubai, and he will be studying there in Australia University's programme.”

Nivedha was momentarily surprised. She had been expecting to meet her cousin at New Blogging Paradise, but now she learned that he would be pursuing his studies in Dubai instead.

After ending the call, she turned towards Ganesh and explained what her father had told her.

Ganesh was genuinely happy to hear that the mystery of her cousin had been resolved, although he had never met him. Nivedha, too, felt relieved and happy, even though she did not openly express her feelings.

Perhaps their unexpected meeting on the bus was not merely a coincidence. Two young graduates, both with degrees in Chemistry, had met while travelling towards a common dream. Their parents had encouraged them to explore a new path, and fate had brought them together even before their course had begun.

Sometimes, life takes us in an unexpected direction, replacing what we anticipate with something more meaningful.

What seemed like an ordinary bus journey might turn out to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

And that was truly a blessing in disguise!

எதிர்பாராத நன்மை

கணேஷ் மைசூருக்குச் செல்லும் பேருந்தில் தனது இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்திருந்தான். தனது எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றி அப்பா, அம்மாவுடன் கலந்தாலோசித்த பிறகு, வலைப்பதிவு எழுதுதல் மற்றும் கதை சொல்லுதல் (Blogging and Storytelling) தொடர்பான ஓராண்டுப் படிப்பைத் தொடர முடிவு செய்திருந்தான். அண்மையில்தான் வேதியியலில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் (B.Sc. Chemistry) பெற்றிருந்தான். எழுத்திலும் படைப்பாற்றலிலும் தனக்கிருந்த ஆர்வத்தை வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள அவன் விரும்பினான்.

இந்தப் படிப்பு நியூ பிளாக்கர்ஸ் பாரடைஸ் (New Blogging Paradise) நிறுவனத்தின் மைசூர் வளாகத்தில் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்புதான் இந்தப் படிப்பு தொடங்கப்பட்டது. அப்போது பத்து மாணவர்களுடன் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட இக்கல்வித் திட்டத்தில், இன்று இந்தியாவின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளிலிருந்து அறுபது மாணவர்களும், ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகத்திலிருந்து இரண்டு மாணவர்களும் சேரும் அளவுக்கு வளர்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டிருந்தது.

கணேஷ் தனது இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்து சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, இனிமையான குரல் ஒன்று அவனது கவனத்தை ஈர்த்தது.

“மன்னிக்கவும், உங்களுக்கு அருகில் உள்ள இருக்கையில் யாராவது வருகிறார்களா?” என்று ஒரு பெண் கேட்டாள்.

“இல்லை, யாரும் வரவில்லை. கவனக்குறைவாக என் பையை அந்த இருக்கையில் வைத்துவிட்டேன். தயவுசெய்து உட்காருங்கள்,” என்று கூறிய கணேஷ், உடனே தனது பையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவளுக்கு இடமளித்தான்.

“நன்றி! என் பெயர் நிவேதா. நியூ பிளாக்கர்ஸ் பாரடைஸில் சேருவதற்காக மைசூருக்குச் செல்கிறேன்,” என்று புன்னகையுடன் அறிமுகப்படுத்திக்கொண்டாள்.

“அப்படியா! நானும் அதே படிப்பில் சேருவதற்காகத்தான் அங்கு செல்கிறேன்!” என்று மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டான் கணேஷ்.

இதைக் கேட்ட நிவேதாவுக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது.

“மிகவும் நல்லது!” என்று மெதுவாகக் கூறினாள்.

பிறகு அவள் தனது படிப்பைப் பற்றிக் கூறினாள்.

“கடந்த ஆண்டு வேதியியலில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் பெற்றேன். இந்தப் படிப்பைப் பற்றி என் அப்பாவும் அம்மாவும் யோசிக்கச் சொன்னார்கள். நாளடைவில் எனக்கும் இந்தத் துறையில் ஆர்வம் ஏற்பட்டது.”

“அருமை! எனக்கும் இதே போன்ற அனுபவம்தான். அண்மையில்தான் வேதியியலில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் பெற்றேன். எனக்குப் பிடித்த துறையில் முன்னேறும்படி என் பெற்றோரும் ஊக்கமளித்தார்கள். வலைப்பதிவு எழுதுதல், கதை சொல்லுதல் ஆகியவற்றின் மீது எனக்கும் ஆர்வம் ஏற்பட்டது,” என்று கணேஷ் பதிலளித்தான்.

இருவரும் தொடர்ந்து பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். தங்களுடைய கல்விப் பின்னணி, விருப்பங்கள், எதிர்கால இலட்சியங்கள் எனப் பல விஷயங்களில் தங்களுக்கு ஒற்றுமை இருப்பதை விரைவிலேயே உணர்ந்துகொண்டனர்.

அப்போது நிவேதா ஒரு சுவாரஸ்யமான விஷயத்தைக் கூறினாள். அது கணேஷுக்கு ஆச்சரியத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

“உங்களுக்குத் தெரியுமா? என்னுடைய உறவினர் ஒருவரும் இந்தப் படிப்பில் சேருவதாக இருந்தது. அவரை அங்கே சந்திக்க ஆவலாக இருக்கிறேன். அவர் என் அப்பாவின் தங்கையின் மகன். மதுரையில் படித்தவர். ஆனால், பல ஆண்டுகளாக நாங்கள் சந்தித்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை. இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு என்னைப் பார்த்தால் அவர் எவ்வளவு ஆச்சரியப்படுவார் என்று நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன்!” என்றாள்.

கணேஷ் புன்னகைத்தபடி, “இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு அவரைச் சந்திக்கப் போகிறோம் என்ற உற்சாகமும், அவர் எப்படி நடந்துகொள்வாரோ என்ற சிறிய பதற்றமும் உங்களுக்கு இருக்கும் போலிருக்கிறது!” என்றான்.

“ஆமாம், நீங்கள் சொல்வது சரிதான்!” என்று புன்னகையுடன் பதிலளித்தாள் நிவேதா.

இருவரும் பயணம் முழுவதும் பேசிக்கொண்டே வந்தனர். அவர்களுடைய உரையாடலால் நேரம் விரைவாகக் கடந்தது. இரண்டரை மணி நேரப் பயணத்திற்குப் பிறகு பேருந்து மைசூரை அடைந்தது.

இருவரும் ஒரே வளாகத்திற்குச் செல்ல வேண்டியிருந்ததால், ஒரு வாடகைக் காரில் சேர்ந்து செல்ல முடிவு செய்தனர். பதினைந்து நிமிடப் பயணத்திற்குப் பிறகு நியூ பிளாக்கர்ஸ் பாரடைஸ் வளாகத்தை அடைந்தனர்.

காரில் பயணம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்தபோது, நிவேதா தனது உறவினரைப் பற்றிச் சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தாள். அவர் எப்படி இருப்பார்? கணேஷைப் போல அழகான இளைஞராக இருப்பாரா? என்று மனதிற்குள் நினைத்தாள். கணேஷைப் பார்த்து யாருக்கும் தெரியாதபடி ஒரு பார்வை பார்த்துவிட்டு, தனக்குள் புன்னகைத்துக்கொண்டாள்.

அதே நேரத்தில் கணேஷின் மனதிலும் ஓர் எண்ணம் தோன்றியது. நிவேதாவின் உறவினர் எப்படி இருப்பார்? அவன் கற்பனை செய்வதைப் போல அழகான இளைஞராக இருப்பாரா? என்று நினைத்தான்.

இருவரும் தங்களுக்குள் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்த இந்த வேடிக்கையான எண்ணங்களைப் பற்றி அறியாமல் இருந்தனர்!

காரிலிருந்து இறங்கி வளாகத்திற்குள் நுழைந்தபோது, நிவேதாவின் கைப்பேசி ஒலித்தது. அவளுடைய அப்பாதான் அழைத்திருந்தார்.

“ஹலோ, நிவேதா! பத்திரமாக மைசூர் வந்து சேர்ந்துவிட்டாயா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

“ஆமாம், அப்பா. இப்போதுதான் வளாகத்திற்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தேன்,” என்று பதிலளித்தாள்.

அதன்பிறகு அவளுடைய அப்பா ஓர் எதிர்பாராத செய்தியைத் தெரிவித்தார்.

“உன்னிடம் ஒரு முக்கியமான விஷயத்தைச் சொல்ல வேண்டும். உன் உறவினர் துபாயில் உள்ள ஒரு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் சேர்ந்திருக்கிறார். அங்கு ஆஸ்திரேலியா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் கல்வித் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் படிக்கப் போகிறார்,” என்றார்.

இதைக் கேட்ட நிவேதா சிறிது நேரம் ஆச்சரியத்தில் ஆழ்ந்தாள். தனது உறவினரை நியூ பிளாக்கர்ஸ் பாரடைஸில் சந்திக்கலாம் என்று எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தாள். ஆனால், அவர் துபாயில் படிக்கப்போகிறார் என்ற செய்தி அவளுக்கு எதிர்பாராததாக இருந்தது.

தொலைபேசி உரையாடலை முடித்துவிட்டு, தனது அப்பா கூறிய செய்தியை கணேஷிடம் தெரிவித்தாள்.

அந்த உறவினரை இதுவரை சந்தித்திராத கணேஷுக்கும், அவர் எங்கு படிக்கப்போகிறார் என்ற குழப்பம் தீர்ந்ததில் மகிழ்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது. நிவேதாவும் தனது எதிர்பார்ப்பு மாறியிருந்தாலும், மனதளவில் ஒருவித நிம்மதியையும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் உணர்ந்தாள். ஆனால், அதை வெளிப்படையாகக் காட்டிக்கொள்ளவில்லை.

ஒருவேளை, பேருந்தில் அவர்கள் எதிர்பாராத விதமாகச் சந்தித்தது வெறும் தற்செயலாக மட்டும் இல்லாமல் இருக்கலாம்.

வேதியியலில் பட்டம் பெற்ற இரண்டு இளம் பட்டதாரிகள், ஒரே கனவை நோக்கிப் பயணிக்கும்போது சந்தித்துக்கொண்டனர். புதிய பாதையில் தங்கள் ஆர்வத்தைத் தொடர அவர்களுடைய பெற்றோர் ஊக்கமளித்திருந்தனர். அவர்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த படிப்பு தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்பே, விதி இருவரையும் ஒன்றாகச் சந்திக்க வைத்திருந்தது.

சில நேரங்களில் வாழ்க்கை நாம் எதிர்பார்க்கும் பாதையில் நம்மை அழைத்துச் செல்வதில்லை. அதற்குப் பதிலாக, நாம் நினைத்துப் பார்க்காத ஒன்றை நமக்கு அளித்து, அதைவிட அர்த்தமுள்ள அனுபவத்தைத் தருகிறது.

Truly a hero

Ramola Talwar Badam’s article headlined ‘Don’t sleep please, we need you,’ dentist told flydubai pilot as he battled to save him (October 6) was both moving and meaningful. It describes how the pilot Smit Machchhar battled for 45 minutes after the attack as Dr Shota Musaev laboured to keep him alive. The doctor’s determination and the pilot’s courage during those critical moments have been beautifully analysed and presented in the article. The words “Don’t sleep, please. We need you”, uttered by the dentist to the injured pilot, reflects not only the urgency of the situation but also the hope that the captain would survive. The pilot is truly a hero. He fought bravely to save the lives of 174 passengers, even while being targeted in an alleged terrorist attack. His courage, presence of mind and determination helped protect the passengers and bring them to safety. “We need you” is indeed the right message for such a brave pilot. The Blessings of Elders

Smitha was waiting for her friend Rupa at the J.P. Nagar Metro Railway Station. Rupa arrived on time and greeted Smitha warmly.

“Hey, Smitha! How are you?”

“I am fine, Rupa. I am very happy that you have come with me today to attend the 70th birthday celebration of our friend Rekha’s father and mother at Judicial Layout and receive their blessings.”

“Yes, we must definitely receive their blessings. Since our friend Rekha could not come from New Zealand, it is our responsibility to be there on her behalf,” Rupa said with a smile.

The two friends travelled by metro and got down at Silk Institute Metro Railway Station. From there, they proceeded to Judicial Layout.

Around 50 guests had already gathered at the couple’s spacious house. Smitha and Rupa went up to Uncle Seshan and Aunty Chandra and wished them on their 70th birthday. Then, both of them presented the gifts they had brought for them and received their blessings.

Uncle Seshan and Aunty Chandra welcomed both of them very warmly and treated them like members of their own family. After enjoying a delicious lunch served with a variety of sweets, Smitha and Rupa spent nearly two hours with Uncle Seshan and Aunty Chandra.

Rekha was a close friend of both Smitha and Rupa. She had settled in New Zealand. Since her son had recently secured admission to a college, she was unable to travel to India for her parents’ birthday celebration.

The presence of Smitha and Rupa brought immense happiness to Uncle Seshan and Aunty Chandra. They felt as though their daughter Rekha herself had come to be with them.

Rekha was the only daughter of Uncle Seshan and Aunty Chandra. Realising how much their visit would mean to Rekha’s parents, Smitha and Rupa had decided to attend the celebration on Rekha’s behalf and receive her parents’ blessings.

In today’s busy world, people are often so immersed in their responsibilities that they forget the importance of spending time with elders. The blessings, love, and good wishes of elders have a special place in our lives. They can give us strength, confidence, and happiness.

The blessings of elders are not merely words of affection; they are a priceless treasure that can have a lasting impact on our lives.

That was the true message Smitha and Rupa realised that day.

ஸ்மிதா, தனது தோழி ரூபாவுக்காக ஜே.பி. நகர் மெட்ரோ ரயில் நிலையத்தில் காத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தாள். ரூபா சரியான நேரத்திற்கு வந்து, ஸ்மிதாவை அன்புடன் வரவேற்றாள்.

“ஹேய், ஸ்மிதா! எப்படி இருக்கிறாய்?”

“நான் நன்றாக இருக்கிறேன், ரூபா. இன்று ஜூடிஷியல் லேஅவுட்டில் நடைபெறும் நமது தோழி ரேகாவின் அப்பா, அம்மாவின் 70வது பிறந்தநாள் விழாவிற்குச் சென்று, அவர்களின் ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெறுவதற்காக நீ என்னுடன் வந்திருப்பதில் எனக்கு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சி.”

“ஆம், நாம் கண்டிப்பாக அவர்களின் ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெற வேண்டும். ரேகா நியூசிலாந்திலிருந்து வர முடியாததால், அவளுக்குப் பதிலாக நாம் அங்கு சென்று இருப்பது நமது பொறுப்பு,” என்று ரூபா புன்னகையுடன் கூறினாள்.

அந்தத் தம்பதியினரின் பிரம்மாண்டமான வீட்டில் ஏற்கனவே சுமார் 50 விருந்தினர்கள் கூடியிருந்தனர். ஸ்மிதாவும் ரூபாவும் சேஷன் மாமாவையும் சந்திரா மாமியையும் அணுகி, அவர்களின் 70வது பிறந்தநாளுக்கு வாழ்த்துத் தெரிவித்தனர். பின்னர், இருவரும் தாங்கள் கொண்டு வந்திருந்த பரிசுகளை அவர்களிடம் வழங்கி, அவர்களின் ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெற்றனர்.

Tribute to Actor Nana Patekar

The demise of the 75-year-old Bollywood actor Nana Patekar is a great loss to the Indian film industry. In his remarkable 48-year film career, he acted alongside almost all the leading artists of his time and created a unique identity for himself through his powerful and versatile performances.

Whether portraying negative characters, supporting roles, or emotionally challenging protagonists, Nana Patekar always brought his own distinctive style and intensity to the screen. His dialogue delivery, expressions, and ability to portray a wide range of characters made him one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema.
