A friend who came to invite me for his grandson’s birthday was surprised to see me watching a Kannada film on TV. 

“You are Tamil-speaking. How is it that you are watching a Kannada film?” he asked. I told him that I was planning to settle down in Bangalore and hence needed to familiarise myself with the local language. He agreed jovially commenting, “Yes. When in Rome, be a Roman.”
