Wait and watch
Regarding the global laptop ban, earlier, a few airlines were allowing laptops on flights and this was appreciated by many frequent travellers (“Global laptop ban: What’s the reason and what you can do if it becomes mandatory”, Gulf News, October 20). Now, the recent proposal for banning laptops along with baggage from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the US is the latest development. This proposal may not be a welcome one for regular travellers, professionals and others, however, due to safety and technical reasons the FAA is proposing this measure and we will have to wait and see. My opinion is that if the US can adopt any other security measures in airports and if it is feasible, then it should be considered. In today’s information technology age, people will be fish out of water if their personal laptops cannot be carried. At the same time, more safety for the passengers is also needed. I hope things will take a better shape in the coming days.
