Tribute to Actress-Politician Tara
By K. Ragavan
Today, I am honored to pen a tribute to a versatile film personality from the South Indian Film Industry—actress Tara. Over her three-and-a-half-decade-long career, Tara has made significant contributions to Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. With more than 125 films to her credit, she has portrayed a wide variety of roles, including heroines, character roles, and many others. She has worked with some of the top actors and directors in the Kannada film industry, which is truly commendable.
Tara made her debut in the Tamil film Ingeyum Oru Gangai, directed by the late Manivannan. She went on to act in several Tamil films, earning recognition and establishing her identity. Some of the films I remember watching her in include Ingeyum Oru Gangai, Agni Natchathiram, Nayakan, Maatraan, and many Kannada films like Guri, Maneya Mantralaya, Rana Ranga, Sangliyana, Avale Nanna Hendathi, En Swamy Aliyendre, Deva, Doctor Krishna, CBI Shankar, Undu Hoda, Kondu Hoda, Halli Mestru, Mala Shree Mama Shree, Muddina Mava, Devara Maga, Swalpa Adjust Madikoli, Pandu Ranga Vittala, Cyanide, School Master, Kempe Gowda, CBI Satya, Goli Soda, Ellide Illi Tanaka, and many more that I can't quite recall.
Tara has worked with all the leading actors in Tamil and Kannada films, including the legendary Anant Nag, Devaraj, Shashikumar, Avinash, the late Shankar Nag, Doddanna, and the late S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. She has also worked under the direction of several prominent filmmakers, including Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and many others. I particularly remember Tara's performance with Anant Nag, where he played a cow doctor in the village, a role that left a lasting impression.
Her recent works in Maatraan and Ellide Illi Tanaka were also thoroughly enjoyable. Beyond her acting career, Tara is a respected activist and politician, known for her dedication and service. She is married to the talented cinematographer H.C. Venugopal, whose work I greatly admire for its artistic excellence.
As a resident of JP Nagar, I am proud to say that Tara resides in this very locality. This tribute, written with admiration, is dedicated to her legacy in the film industry and beyond.
If there are any errors, kindly disregard them. I have been writing this column since 2008, every week on Monday, and I remain grateful to continue sharing my thoughts on such remarkable personalities.
