 Short Story 691

Life is Beautiful – 36

Raj continued speaking.

Raj: "Ram, I was very happy yesterday. My senior journalist friend spoke very highly of your talent, and I felt extremely proud. He told me that you had written many short stories, articles, and essays on various social issues for both local and international magazines."

Ram: "Oh, is that what you're referring to? I never mentioned it to you because I'm not as versatile a journalist as you are. Besides, only recently have people started recognizing my work. I was planning to tell you and Moorthy one of these days. I'm happy that your friend still remembers me. By the way, how did this topic come up?"

Raj: "Yesterday, my friend Srivatsa came to my house. He noticed your photograph on my table and immediately began speaking very highly of you. He praised not only your writing but also your commitment to social causes."

Ram: "Thank you, Raj. I didn't deliberately keep it a secret. I simply never found the right occasion to mention it."

Raj: "Ram, I know your nature. You never boast about your achievements. That is one of the reasons I am truly proud of you."

Ram: "Thank you for your kind opinion of me."

Just then, Raj received a phone call from home. After speaking for a moment, he said goodbye to Ram and hurried home.

After Raj left, Ram went about his daily routine.

Tribute to Sandalwood Film industry Friendship.

On this Friendship Day, August 2, I am happy to remember my association with many legendary personalities of the Sandalwood film industry. Their encouragement, motivation, and goodwill have always inspired me, and I can never forget their support.

Although I have not had the opportunity to meet every person with whom I interact regularly, I feel a special bond and friendship with many of them. True friendship is not measured by how long we have known each other; even a friendship of a few years can blossom into a meaningful and lasting relationship.

On this special occasion, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all my friends from various fields of the Sandalwood film industry. Wishing each one of you a very Happy Friendship Day! May you all be blessed with good health, happiness, success, and many more wonderful years of friendship.

Tribute to Friendship

Happy Friendship Day – 2 August 2026

Friendship Day, celebrated across the world today, is a wonderful occasion to honour one of life's greatest blessings—true friendship. History is filled with inspiring examples of enduring friendships, and in our everyday lives we continue to experience the strength, comfort, and joy that genuine friends bring.

Friendship knows no boundaries of age, distance, language, or status. It is a bond built on trust, mutual respect, and affection, and it continues to enrich our lives through every stage of our journey.

On this special day, I feel especially happy and grateful that my old colleagues from the pharmaceutical industry, with whom I worked in Madurai between 1967 and 1978, have reconnected through the vibrant Madurai Veerans group. Our interactions are filled with fond memories, meaningful conversations, and discussions about the latest developments, innovations, and advancements in the pharmaceutical industry. It is truly heartwarming to renew these cherished friendships after so many years.

I extend my heartfelt wishes to every member of the proud Madurai Veerans group. May our friendship continue to grow stronger with time, bringing happiness, good health, peace, and togetherness to all of us.

Happy Friendship Day to one and all!

With warm regards,

K. Ragavan

Small Story 690.

 Small Story 690:

Life Is Beautiful (Part 35)

Tommy's barking brought Ram out of his daydream. As he stepped out of his room, he saw his friend Raj standing at the front door.

Ram: Hello, Raj! How are you? Tommy knows you very well.

Raj: Thank you. But why haven't you been in touch with me?

Ram: I've been extremely busy with work lately. That's why. Please forgive me. Come in. What would you like to drink—tea or milk?

Raj: A cup of tea will do. And I'd also like those salty biscuits that you enjoy.

Ram: Of course. I'll make the tea and bring it right away.

Raj: Ram, I need to ask you something important. Please don't hide anything from me.

Ram: I haven't hidden anything from you. What is it? Just wait a moment. I'll get the tea from the kitchen.

Raj sat quietly, deeply lost in thought about the truth he had just discovered.

Raj: Ram, today I met one of my senior friends. While talking to him, I learned about your past. I was truly shocked to hear it. We've been close friends for the past twenty years. How could you keep something so important from me?

Ram: Raj, I'm sorry. I don't understand what you're talking about.

As Ram walked to the kitchen to get the tea, countless thoughts raced through his mind.

"Has Raj somehow found out about the long-buried memories of my past?" The thought filled him with anxiety.

A few minutes later, Ram returned carrying two cups of hot tea and a plate of salty biscuits.

Raj: Ram, the experiences you've been through in your life are truly extraordinary. I kept wondering why you never shared any of them with me all these years.

Ram looked at Raj silently. For a moment, he couldn't find the words to respond.

Good Speech.

The recent Interfaith and Tolerance meeting was truly enriching. The presentation clearly explained the main salient features of the topic in a simple and engaging manner.

After the well-deserved introduction of the speaker, the versatile and award-winning journalist Muthulakshmi Shammugam delivered a wonderful presentation on the topic. Her thoughtful quotes and insightful observations made the session highly informative and inspiring.

Her emphasis on the famous opening words of the great Indian philosopher Swami Vivekananda—"Sisters and Brothers of America"—was particularly impressive. She also beautifully explained the "well frog" (frog in the well) analogy, effectively relating it to the importance of tolerance, acceptance, and interfaith harmony.

Everyone should listen to this presentation to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of interfaith dialogue and mutual respect.

Finally, her response to the organiser's question was clear, convincing, and thoughtfully articulated. She addressed the query with confidence and clarity, earning the appreciation of the audience.

Muthulakshmi Shammugam is undoubtedly one of the most versatile journalists in today's media and publications sector. Her knowledge, eloquence, and ability to communicate complex ideas with simplicity are truly admirable. Congratulations to the organisers and the speaker for such an excellent and meaningful session.
