Small Story 572.
Breakfast Encounter
Somashekar was waiting on the apartment bench for his friends before their morning walk. Soon, Ramesh and Madhav arrived, greeting him warmly.
“Hey guys,” Somashekar said with a smile, “today after our walk, we’re going to have breakfast at our favorite café opposite our apartment. Inform your families.”
“What’s the occasion, my dear Somashekar?” Madhav asked, curious.
Somashekar replied, “Next week, I’m going to the U.S. to visit my daughter. She has invited me to attend her son’s graduation ceremony in Boston. I’ll be missing you all for a few months.”
“That’s wonderful!” Ramesh said. “Let’s definitely celebrate.”
After they began walking, Ramesh asked, “Which route you are taking buddy?”
“Not via Dubai,” Somashekar answered, “because of the ongoing conflicts. Many flights are being cancelled.”
Madhav nodded. “True, Dubai is a wonderful place. I spent ten years there and saw its incredible development. But the present situation is very bad, with significant damage to buildings.”
“Yes,” Ramesh added, “many of my friends and relatives have lived there happily for years, but now things have changed.”
“I agree,” Madhav said thoughtfully. “Because of decisions made by a few, the entire world is suffering—from energy shortages to economic problems.”
Somashekar sighed. “We all pray for normalcy in the Middle East, a region that has always been important on the global map.”
After finishing their walk, the friends enjoyed a pleasant breakfast together. Before parting, they wished Somashekar a happy journey and prayed for peace in the Middle East.
“Bon voyage!” they said, as they all returned to their apartments with warm smiles.
