Ceasefire now!

I write in reference to David Vujanovic’s article Tanker war 2.0: How US-Iran ship attacks are escalating (September 9): the recent escalation in the conflict between the US and Iran is certainly not a healthy sign for the Middle East. This exchange of attacks has created fear, anxiety and uncertainty among people across the region. The public has already suffered greatly from prolonged conflicts, loss of innocent lives, displacement and disruption to their normal lives. The latest escalation only adds to their worries and raises the danger of the conflict spreading further. A genuine and lasting ceasefire is urgently needed. Military action can only bring more suffering; it cannot provide a permanent solution to complex political and security issues. The US and Iran, with the support of responsible international mediators, should return to dialogue and find a peaceful and practical way forward. – K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Life Is Beautiful – 75

The next morning, Prasanna left for the airport. Before leaving, he requested Ram to stay at the guest house and asked for his blessings for a safe and successful journey.

Ram blessed him and wished him a safe journey. After Prasanna left, Ram stayed back for some time. As usual, after breakfast, Ali arrived and picked him up for the office.

When Ram got out of the car, Atkinson was also coming out of the building. He greeted Ram warmly and exchanged a few words with him.

After about ten minutes, Ram was asked to meet Atkinson. When he entered Atkinson’s cabin, he was pleasantly surprised to see Kaadhambari already sitting there.

After they had tea, Atkinson began to speak.

“Mr. Ram, I called you and Kaadhambari today because I received a letter from our Board of Directors regarding Sulaiman’s proposal.

“On the one hand, they feel that Sulaiman’s proposal is very good and has considerable potential. On the other hand, the recent escalation and retaliation between the United States and Iran is a disturbing factor. Unless a permanent ceasefire comes into effect, they do not want to take any unnecessary risk.

“However, the Directors have suggested an alternative. If Sulaiman agrees, you will become the Project Head or CEO of this new venture, and the project can be started in India, at whichever location you prefer.

“Even my earlier proposal to bring you into our Dubai operation has now been cancelled. Instead, you will be our CEO for this new publication and blogging project, including the selection of bloggers.

“I am very happy about this decision. It is a good opportunity, and you will continue to be associated with us.”

Ram was delighted to hear the news. He could hardly believe how rapidly things were changing because of the continuing crisis in the Middle East. What had initially appeared to be a setback was now opening a completely new and exciting opportunity for him.

Atkinson continued, “Kaadhambari will also work with you, particularly on our media coverage from India. Both of you can visit Dubai whenever necessary. For now, let us relax and take things easy for one day. Sulaiman is coming tomorrow, and we can discuss everything with him in detail.”

Ram and Kaadhambari thanked Atkinson and left his cabin.

That evening, while returning to the guest house, Ram kept thinking about the latest developments. Everything had changed so unexpectedly. The difficult situation in the Middle East had brought about a completely new direction in his life.

He smiled to himself and whispered,

“Life is Beautiful.”

வாழ்க்கை அழகானது – 75

மறுநாள் காலையில் பிரசன்னா விமான நிலையத்திற்குப் புறப்பட்டார். புறப்படுவதற்கு முன், பாதுகாப்பான மற்றும் வெற்றிகரமான பயணத்திற்காக ராம் தங்கியிருந்த விருந்தினர் இல்லத்திலேயே இருந்து, தனது ஆசீர்வாதத்தை வழங்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

ராம் அவரை ஆசீர்வதித்து, பாதுகாப்பான பயணம் அமைய வாழ்த்தினார். பிரசன்னா புறப்பட்டுச் சென்ற பிறகு, ராம் சிறிது நேரம் விருந்தினர் இல்லத்திலேயே இருந்தார். வழக்கம்போல் காலை உணவை முடித்ததும், அலி வந்து அவரை அலுவலகத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.

ராம் காரிலிருந்து இறங்கியபோது, அட்கின்சனும் கட்டிடத்திலிருந்து வெளியே வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். அவர் ராமை அன்புடன் வரவேற்று, சில வார்த்தைகள் பேசினார்.

சுமார் பத்து நிமிடங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, ராமை அட்கின்சனைச் சந்திக்குமாறு அழைத்தனர். அவர் அட்கின்சனின் அறைக்குள் நுழைந்தபோது, அங்கு ஏற்கனவே காதம்பரி அமர்ந்திருப்பதைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார்.

அவர்கள் தேநீர் அருந்திய பிறகு, அட்கின்சன் பேசத் தொடங்கினார்.

“மிஸ்டர் ராம், சுலைமானின் முன்மொழிவு தொடர்பாக எங்கள் இயக்குநர் குழுவிடமிருந்து ஒரு கடிதம் வந்துள்ளது. அதனால்தான் இன்று உங்களையும் காதம்பரியையும் அழைத்தேன்.

“ஒருபுறம், சுலைமானின் முன்மொழிவு மிகவும் சிறப்பானது என்றும், அதில் நல்ல வாய்ப்புகள் இருப்பதாகவும் அவர்கள் கருதுகிறார்கள். மறுபுறம், அமெரிக்காவுக்கும் ஈரானுக்கும் இடையே ஏற்பட்டுள்ள சமீபத்திய மோதல் மற்றும் பதிலடி நடவடிக்கைகள் கவலைக்குரியதாக உள்ளன. நிரந்தர போர் நிறுத்தம் ஏற்படும் வரை எந்தவிதமான தேவையற்ற ஆபத்தையும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ள அவர்கள் விரும்பவில்லை.

“ஆனால், இயக்குநர்கள் ஒரு மாற்றுத் திட்டத்தை முன்மொழிந்துள்ளனர். சுலைமான் இதற்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டால், இந்தப் புதிய முயற்சியின் திட்டத் தலைவராக அல்லது தலைமை நிர்வாக அதிகாரியாக நீங்கள் பொறுப்பேற்கலாம். இந்தத் திட்டத்தை இந்தியாவில், நீங்கள் விரும்பும் எந்த இடத்திலும் தொடங்கலாம்.

“மேலும், உங்களை எங்கள் துபாய் செயல்பாட்டில் இணைத்துக்கொள்ள நான் முன்பு முன்மொழிந்திருந்த திட்டமும் இப்போது ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதற்குப் பதிலாக, இந்தப் புதிய பதிப்பகம் மற்றும் வலைப்பதிவு திட்டத்தின் தலைமை நிர்வாக அதிகாரியாக நீங்கள் இருப்பீர்கள். இதில் வலைப்பதிவர்களைத் தேர்வு செய்வதும் உங்கள் பொறுப்புகளில் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும்.

“இந்த முடிவு எனக்கு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியளிக்கிறது. இது உங்களுக்கு ஒரு நல்ல வாய்ப்பு. அதே நேரத்தில், நீங்கள் தொடர்ந்து எங்களுடன் இணைந்து செயல்படுவீர்கள்.”

இந்தச் செய்தியைக் கேட்டு ராம் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார். மத்திய கிழக்கில் தொடர்ந்து நிலவி வந்த நெருக்கடியால், விஷயங்கள் இவ்வளவு வேகமாக மாறும் என்று அவரால் நம்பவே முடியவில்லை. ஆரம்பத்தில் ஒரு பின்னடைவாகத் தோன்றிய விஷயம், இப்போது அவருடைய வாழ்க்கையில் முற்றிலும் புதியதும் உற்சாகமானதுமான ஒரு வாய்ப்பைத் திறந்துவிட்டது.

அட்கின்சன் தொடர்ந்து கூறினார்:

“காதம்பரியும் உங்களுடன் இணைந்து பணியாற்றுவார். குறிப்பாக, இந்தியாவிலிருந்து எங்கள் ஊடகச் செய்திகளைத் தயாரிப்பதில் அவர் உங்களுக்கு உதவுவார். தேவையான நேரங்களில் நீங்கள் இருவரும் துபாய்க்கு வரலாம். இப்போது, ஒரு நாள் ஓய்வாக இருந்து, எல்லாவற்றையும் நிதானமாக எடுத்துக்கொள்வோம். சுலைமான் நாளை வருகிறார். அவருடன் அனைத்தையும் விரிவாகப் பேசித் தீர்மானிக்கலாம்.”

ராமும் காதம்பரியும் அட்கின்சனுக்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்துவிட்டு அவரது அறையிலிருந்து வெளியேறினர்.

அன்று மாலை விருந்தினர் இல்லத்திற்குத் திரும்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, ராம் அன்று நடந்த புதிய மாற்றங்களைப் பற்றியே சிந்தித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். எல்லாமே எதிர்பாராத விதமாக மாறிவிட்டிருந்தது. மத்திய கிழக்கில் ஏற்பட்ட கடினமான சூழ்நிலை, தனது வாழ்க்கைக்கே முற்றிலும் புதிய பாதையை உருவாக்கியிருப்பதை அவர் உணர்ந்தார்.

அவர் தனக்குள் புன்னகைத்துக்கொண்டு மெதுவாகச் சொன்னார்:

“வாழ்க்கை அழகானது.”

கொங்கு மண்டலத்தின் முக்கிய நகரமான கோயம்புத்தூரில் வாழ்ந்த அந்த மாமனிதரின் காலகட்டத்திற்கே நம்மை அழைத்துச் செல்லும் வகையில், ஒட்டுமொத்த படக்குழுவினரும் திரைப்படத்தை மிகச் சிறப்பாக உருவாக்கியுள்ளனர். ஜி. டி. நாயுடு அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை, தொலைநோக்குப் பார்வை, கண்டுபிடிப்புகள் மற்றும் விடாமுயற்சி ஆகியவை படத்தில் சிறப்பாகவும், சிந்திக்கத் தூண்டும் வகையிலும் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன.

காலகட்டத்தின் பின்னணியையும் அன்றைய சூழலையும் மிகவும் சிறப்பாகக் கண்முன் கொண்டு வந்த இயக்கம், ஒளிப்பதிவு, நடிப்பு மற்றும் ஏனைய தொழில்நுட்ப அம்சங்கள் அனைத்தும் பாராட்டுக்குரியவை.

ஒரு மாபெரும் இந்தியத் தொலைநோக்குச் சிந்தனையாளரின் வாழ்க்கையையும் சாதனைகளையும் இன்றைய தலைமுறையினருக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தும் வகையில் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த முயற்சி மிகவும் பாராட்டத்தக்கது.

Good Movie GDN.

 Recently, I watched GDN, and I was truly amazed by Madhavan’s impressive performance as G. D. Naidu, the visionary who created innovative technologies decades ago in Coimbatore, the heart of the Kongu region.

The entire film was beautifully crafted by the team, successfully taking us back to that remarkable era. The portrayal of G. D. Naidu’s life, vision, innovations, and determination was both inspiring and thought-provoking.

Jayaram and the other actors played their roles very well and contributed greatly to the overall impact of the film. I personally enjoyed this movie for its meaningful message, inspiring story, and strong sense of patriotism.

The direction deserves special appreciation, along with the excellent cinematography, performances, and other technical aspects that brought the period to life so effectively.

A commendable attempt to present the life and achievements of a great Indian visionary to today’s generation.

Kudos to the director and the entire team of GDN for creating such an inspiring and memorable biopic!
