Small Story 503.
Small Story 503.
Great RAW
Mukundan sat by the window, worry etched across his face. There had been no communication from his son, Sudeep, who had gone to Iran on an official investigation assignment. The region was in turmoil, and the silence troubled him deeply.
Sudeep, however, was used to such missions. Working for RAW had taken him across many countries, and he enjoyed the responsibility and thrill that came with serving the nation. Still, a father’s heart never truly rests.
Just then, Mukundan’s phone rang.
“Hey Dad,” came Sudeep’s cheerful voice. “My work is over. I reached Mumbai yesterday. I’m in my hotel now, watching Tehran, the John Abraham movie. Really enjoying it!”
Mukundan’s face lit up. “Thank God! How is everything? And how are you, son?”
“All good, Dad. How’s Mom? And Rishi and Sowmya?”
“Everyone is fine,” Mukundan replied, relief washing over him. “I’m happy now—very happy after hearing your voice.”
After a brief pause, Mukundan spoke with quiet pride.
“I know the risks and ethics of your profession. As a retired RAW officer myself, I understand what this life demands. You chose this path on your own, inspired by my service and credentials. Your words—‘Risk is everywhere, but risking for the sake of the country is worth it’—are still ringing in my ears.”
“Take care, Dad,” Sudeep said warmly. “I’ll bring your favorite sweets from Mumbai.”
The call ended. Mukundan smiled, his worries finally at rest.
Behind him stood Rohini, his better half, who had been listening to the entire conversation. She nodded proudly and said softly,
“Great RAW.”
