Small Story 497.
Small Story 497
Unexpected Blessings
Kothai never imagined that Sunitha would send ₹1,00,000 for her cataract operation. They had been good neighbors for decades before Sunitha moved to the U.S. and settled there with her daughter. Despite the distance, Sunitha regularly stayed in touch through messages and video calls, sharing updates about both families.
During one casual video call, Kothai mentioned that she would soon undergo cataract surgery. Since losing her husband a few years ago, Kothai had been living alone in her house. Her husband was a non-pensioner, but Kothai managed her life wisely. She had invested her savings in the bank and lived contentedly, spending her days interacting with neighbors and helping others whenever she could.
One afternoon, her friend Sowmya rang the doorbell. As Kothai came down, Sowmya said, “Kothai, a courier man left a parcel for you outside.” Inside the cover was a beautiful picture of Sri Andal sent by Sunitha, along with birthday wishes on Kothai’s 70th birthday. Along with the picture was another surprise—the money for her cataract surgery.
Kothai was overwhelmed. She never expected such generosity. The divine picture was something she could proudly place in her pooja room, and the financial help lifted a silent burden from her heart.
Sowmya whispered softly, “You never expect or anticipate help from others. That’s why blessings come to you. Your pure attachment and goodness have returned to you.”
Kothai nodded gently.
“True.”
