Small Story 495.
Small Story 495.
An Unexpected Vigilance Encounter
Paul arrived at the restaurant where his cousin Sophia was already waiting. He greeted her warmly, and both of them ordered tea, as the restaurant was famous for it.
While sipping the tea, Paul spoke softly, “I’ve handed over a small parcel to my friend Srikanth. He will collect at your home in Philadelphia.”
Sophia smiled. “No problem, Paul. How are Helen and our nephew James?”
“They’re doing well,” Paul replied. “How about you? How’s your job in the FBI?”
“Quite interesting,” Sophia said. “This visit is only for seven days. I had some work, so I couldn’t meet my good friend Ranjitha from the OOI Academy.”
“You mean the famous OOI?” Paul asked.
“Yes,” Sophia whispered. “My flight is tomorrow morning, and I’m sorry I couldn’t visit your home.”
“That’s alright,” Paul said. “Take care, and give my regards to your husband and kids.”
Soon after, they parted ways.
The parcel Paul had handed over was given to him by Srikanth’s father, a retired officer from the Sports Ministry and Paul’s neighbor. Paul and Srikanth were childhood friends, and Paul never missed celebrating festivals with Srikanth’s parents—especially enjoying the delicious Mysore Pak. The parcel contained sweets, including Srikanth’s favorite Mysore Pak.
Paul, working in the Vigilance Department, and his cousin Sophia, an FBI officer, shared a special bond—more than just cousins, they were close friends. Sophia, though unable to meet Ranjitha in person, spoke to her over the phone and felt happy meeting cousin Paul after ten long years.
As Sophia settled into her seat on the morning flight, she whispered to herself, “This trip to India was truly special—made even better by my professional visit and family moments.”
