Small Story 419.
Small Story 419.
60 by 40 Encounter
After finishing his morning walk, Vinod entered his apartment building and met his neighbor.
“Hey Vinod, how are you?” greeted Col. Swamy. “How was your morning walk?”
“Fine,” Vinod replied. “Out of 60–40, I finished 60.”
Col. Swamy looked puzzled. “Are you negotiating that 60–40 site recently advertised by the famous builder?”
Vinod smiled. “No, Colonel! I’m talking about my walking routine — 60 percent in the morning and 40 percent in the evening. That’s how I make up my daily 10,000 steps.”
“Oh!” the Colonel chuckled. “I thought you were finalizing a new construction site.”
Vinod laughed. “I just enjoy using words I like in my day-to-day life.”
“That’s good,” said the Colonel. “Makes you happy — and probably keeps your doctor happy too. Since I retired from the IB, I also drop a few code words into my routine.”
“Great, Swamy asked How about having tea together now in my house.”
“Sorry, Colonel — my morning quota is over. Only evening tea for me,” Vinod replied, smiling as they parted ways.
As the Colonel walked back to his house, he whispered to himself with a grin,
“Today I finally understood the 60–40 site terminology of Vinod.”
