Small Story 431
A Holiday Journey with a Noble Cop
Aneesh had completed two years in a reputed event-management company in Dubai. He still couldn’t believe how quickly the time had passed. Now he was eagerly waiting to visit his native place and see his loving mother. Last year his leave had been sanctioned, but he had postponed it due to work. This year, nothing could stop him—he was finally travelling home tomorrow.
Ambujam, his mother, had also been longing to see him. Even though they often spoke on video calls, she was waiting to see her son in person, with his charming and impressive personality.
That evening, Aneesh went to a nearby mall and bought all the items he wanted to take home—chocolates, almonds, dates, and a gold chain for his mum.
The next morning, he arrived at the airport. After checking in his luggage, he waited for the departure announcement. He called his mother and told her that he was at the airport and would be home in another nine hours.
Ambujam had recently been transferred from Tenkasi to the Tirunelveli Head Post Office, and with Aneesh’s support, she had even built a house there.
After settling into his seat on the flight, Aneesh glanced at the seat next to him. A senior citizen of around sixty was sitting there. The man smiled and introduced himself.
“I am Muthiah, retired from the Police Department.”
Aneesh was pleasantly surprised—he had heard about Muthiah, a wonderful police officer, and had even seen his name in the newspapers. A former honest and reputed DIG sitting beside him made Aneesh feel very happy.
By then, the flight took off…
