Small Story 463.

Small Story 463 Principles Beyond Retirement Viswanath received his thirtieth phone call of appreciation for helping a physically challenged man at a bank. The man, Ramesh, worked as an assistant in a college. While he was drawing money, he suddenly collapsed. Viswanath, a retired principal who happened to be in the bank, immediately rushed to his aid. He took Ramesh to a nearby doctor and stayed with him for nearly an hour until he recovered. The incident was witnessed by many people in the bank. Viswanath was well known in the town—not just as a retired principal, but as a man who practiced the principles he had taught throughout his career. Many of his former students were now in top positions, not only in India but also abroad. One day, he received an unexpected call from New Zealand. “Sir, this is Madhav, your old student,” the voice said. “I saw the news about how you rescued a man in the bank and spent an hour helping him recover. My friend’s NGO here would like to send you 25,000 New Zealand dollars to donate to a dedicated association for the physically challenged.” Viswanath was taken aback. “Thank you, Madhav,” he replied. “I will donate it to a reliable and committed organization I know. A retired banker friend of mine runs an excellent organization that supports the physically challenged. I will send you the receipt once the amount is received.” His wife, who had overheard the conversation, smiled and nodded. “Your helping nature,” she said, “has not only taken your students to great heights but has also inspired them to follow in your footsteps.” K.Ragavan 18-12-25
