Small Story 474.
Small Story 474..
Only a Few Stand Forever
Ram entered the party hall to attend the Sathabhishekam celebration of his good old friend Shankar, a retired bank officer. Shankar had been Ram’s walking companion in his previous apartment for more than thirteen years. Though Ram had moved away over six years ago, Shankar warmly invited him to be part of this auspicious occasion.
More than 220 people had already gathered in the hall, seated and smiling, reflecting the respect and affection everyone had for Shankar. Many old friends greeted Ram warmly despite the long gap, showing that true friendship does not fade with time or distance. Friendship is the only “ship” that does not depend on longevity alone; even the passage of time strengthens its impact.
The programme began with music, quizzes, and beautiful Bollywood dance performances that thrilled the audience. After the programme, everyone enjoyed a tasty and delicious lunch, complete with three varieties of sweets. As a token of love and respect, Shankar’s daughters presented gift bags to the guests and thanked them for their presence, which was truly admirable.
Many functions happen in life, but only a few remain in the hearts of those who attend. My friend Shankar’s celebration was surely one of them.
It was a truly memorable day for Ram.
