Small Story 557.
Friendly Invitation
Madhav was surprised to receive an invitation to his friend Chandran’s daughter’s wedding, to be held in his native place in Kerala near Guruvayur. Madhav knew Chandran through his daily column in Gulf newspapers when he was working in the Middle East. Their association had continued over the years, even though they had never met in person.
After his retirement, Madhav stayed in touch with Chandran by regularly exchanging letters and stories. His wife, Vedhavalli, was delighted, as her long-cherished wish to visit Guruvayur Temple was finally going to be fulfilled along with attending the wedding nearby.
Madhav felt happy that their friendship had grown into a strong bond, and he was eager to finally meet Chandran. However, Vedhavalli was slightly worried about Madhav’s health. Once, they had to cut short a trip because of his sudden giddiness. Now that he was feeling better, she felt more confident about the journey.
“I am sure we will go, attend the wedding, and also have the blessings of Lord Guruvayurappan,” Vedhavalli said with hope. “I have prayed for your good health and for a safe, comfortable journey.”
Madhav smiled and said softly, “This invitation shows how much Chandran values our friendship, even though we have only known each other through writings.”
Vedhavalli nodded. “True. And with faith and confidence, everything will go well.”
Madhav whispered, “Yes, confidence is the most important thing in life. I am sure the Lord will guide us.”
With hope in their hearts, they looked forward to the journey, the wedding, and a long-awaited meeting that would turn their written friendship into a real one.
