Small Story 567:
Magic Tattoo
Anita never expected a call from her friend Shruthi in the U.S.
“Hey, how are you? Day after tomorrow I’m coming to Bengaluru for a relative’s marriage,” Shruthi said excitedly. “I also want an appointment with your professional tattoo artist after five days. Last time you showed me your tattoo design—I loved it! I want the same style, along with my favorite deity. Don’t forget to book it. Bye, see you soon!”
Anita was amazed. Ever since she got her recent tattoo, nearly six of her friends had gone to the same artist through her recommendation. Shruthi, who lived in Denver, had first met Anita through her sister Asha during a visit.
Her husband Ram smiled and whispered, “Nice, your idea has become so popular.”
Anita laughed. “True, he really does professional work.”
Later that afternoon, their daughter Kavya returned from college. When she heard that Shruthi was coming, she felt both happy and surprised.
“I think I want a tattoo like yours, Mom,” she said.
As she sipped her tea, Kavya added thoughtfully, “Tattooing is becoming a worldwide trend. It’s a beautiful passion, but also a bit expensive and permanent.”
Anita smiled warmly. “You’re right—and you’re growing wiser every day.”
Kavya blushed shyly at her mother’s words.
