Small Story 547
Lucky Encounter
While walking one morning, somebody called Ram. When he looked back, he saw that it was his neighbour, Madhusudan. Both of them used to walk together every day for about 45 minutes, and afterwards they would spend five minutes discussing the happenings of the day.
Ram looked around and asked Madhusudan, “Hey, where is Lucky? I miss him.” Lucky was Madhusudan’s sweet pet dog that he used to bring along on their walks. Ram had gone to Tirunelveli for a marriage and had returned only the previous day after fifteen days. During that time, he had missed the cute and lovable Lucky.
Madhusudan whispered, “You are meeting me after fifteen days. In between, my son came along with my grandson Anirudh, a ten-year-old cute boy who liked Lucky very much. Before leaving, he took Lucky with him to Australia. My son had come on official work, and since his son loved Lucky so much, I gave the dog to him.”
He continued, “Even though I miss Lucky, he had already spent three wonderful years with me. Seeing my grandson happy with Lucky made my wife and me happy too.”
Ram nodded and said, “Lucky is very smart and affectionate. I will miss him, but Anirudh must be very happy there. Lucky is really lucky to fly to a new destination and enjoy life there. Perhaps it was destined by God for the pet to migrate to a new land and live the rest of his life there.”
Madhusudan softly replied, “Yes, Ram. Lucky is part of our family.”
After their walk, both of them went to Madhusudan’s house, had coffee together, and then left.
As Ram entered his flat later, he whispered to himself, “It was truly a lucky day.”
