Small Story 552.
Different Thought of Politics
Sripathy was a schoolteacher who taught Social Studies and Politics to 9th-standard students. One day, when he started the class, he noticed that Ramu was absent. Ramu was one of the brightest students in the class and had a special interest in Social Studies and politics.
Ramu’s mother was unwell that day, so he had taken leave to take her to the hospital. His father had passed away a few years earlier during the COVID-19 period. Since then, it had been only Ramu and his mother, Visalakshi. She worked as a domestic servant in the house of a well-known lawyer named Muthanna. The lawyer knew about Ramu’s interest in studies and politics and often encouraged him and helped him with his education.
After visiting the doctor, Ramu left his mother at home and hurried to school. By the time he reached, Sripathy was about to finish the class. Ramu had already taken permission from the Headmaster for being late.
He quietly came near the teacher and whispered,
“Sir, I did not want to miss your class, especially the politics lesson.”
Sripathy smiled and nodded. “I know, Ramu. You like my class.”
Ramu replied, “Yes, sir. I like the way you teach politics. You say politics is about serving people without bias and giving importance to education. Many people think politics is only for self-interest, but there were many leaders who sacrificed for the people and built a good name. I want to follow in the footsteps of such leaders in the future. That is why I like your class.”
Sripathy was deeply touched by Ramu’s words. At that moment, he felt that he was looking at a future leader who truly wished to serve the people.
