Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 1July 15,Unacceptable spending!
The report on India spending 140 million rupees (Dh8 million) per year to feed members of parliament (MPs) is a shocking revelation (‘Government spends Rs140m yearly to feed MPs’, Gulf News, June 25). Already, they are getting great salaries and other benefits. This subsidiary benefit given to them is depriving the citizens of India their tax money, and is unacceptable. The common man pays for the same thing when he goes out, so why are they any different? They should come forward voluntarily and not accept this amount, as it is affecting the nation. The Indian government should stop this, since MPs can afford to spend from their income. This issue should be assessed immediately so that the common man will be able to get food items at an affordable price. From Mr K. Ragavan

Ruler Must Answer
The Lalit Modi scandal and mounting opposition pressure ona silent NDA government lends credence to the belief that the ruling party is associated with corruption. If the allegations lack merit, the government should give an apt answer and end  thematter  once and for all.Else,it will stall Parliament's winter session at the tax payer's expense.

Letter Published in Gulf News on 29June 15,Violence not a solution!
The brutal attack by the Taliban militants on the Afghan parliament is a highly condemned act (‘Taliban attacks Afghan parliament’, Gulf News, June 23). Taliban militant actions have been cowardly, and killing innocent civilians and children is unacceptable anywhere in the world. This is really a threat to democracy and cannot be tolerated. Violence and killing people are not going to solve the problem. Peaceful dialogues are the only remedy.

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE On 27June 15,Celebrating a peaceful leader
The Gulf News story about Tibetans praying for the Dalai Lama on his 80th birthday celebrations, was lovely to read (‘Tibetans pray for Dalai Lama at 80th birthday celebration’, Gulf News, June 22). The peace-loving Nobel laureate completes 80 years on July 6 and his birthday was celebrated by his devotees and followers in the past week, in Dharamsala, India. He is a wonderful leader and I wishing him very happy and healthy birthdays to come.

Jackson magic

I was talking with a friend about old Hollywood films and directors. He asked me about my favourites. I told him I still enjoy the James Bond movies produced by 20th Century Fox and starring Sean Connery, especially the appealing background music.

We also remembered the great pop legend Michael Jackson who left us six years ago. My friend recollected many of Jackson’s remarkable songs, which still ring in the ears of his fans. That evening I was happy that our conversation ended with a discussion on the great legend, specially on his sixth anniversary.
