The National’s article was very nice to read and featured beautiful pictures of the narrow-gauge runs in Darjeeling, 2,200 metres above sea level. This attractive, famous Indian tourist destination which have been given Unesco World Heritage Site status is laudable. I congratulate The National’s team for bringing up this important place to all its readers.The pictures of the meter gauge steam engine was a ­particular highlight for me and was very popular in the Indian railway network back in the old days.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Inadequate buses and not much frequency in Metro services leaves commuters affected. Above all, withdrawing car pooling will cause rise in traffic. A proper solution must be devised for this issue.

I write with reference to your online article Saudi Arabia raises India’s Hajj quota to 200,000(June 28).

This must have been wonderful news for the nation’s devout pilgrims. The decision was made at a recent meeting of India’s prime minister Narendra Modi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the G20 summit.

What a good idea. With increase of 30,000, even more Indian citizens will have the chance to visit Saudi Arabia, which will help to forge deep personal relationships with the country, in addition to the strong trading links that exist between these two great countries. Kudos to both men for this gesture.

I write in reference to your article Etihad rail approves Dubai-Abu Dhabi train contracts (June 25). The National’s piece on the proposed Abu Dhabi to Dubai high-speed rail link is excellent news, not just for the people of the Emirates but also possibly in the future for tourists who would like to visit both major cities. While initial plans are for freight purposes, who knows what this might lead to? This project is another milestone in the UAE’s history and trajectory. It will stand the UAE in excellent stead moving forward.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 26June 19 The UK-India relationship is well worth cherishing    I write in reference to your article Britain has failed to strengthen relationship with India, says new report (June 24). Shafi Musaddique’s article was a very good read. Compared to other countries, India is not enjoying an especially good relationship with Britain today, as the new report states. Britain’s lack of interest in developing a good relationship with the government of Narendra Modi will do it no favours as New Delhi enhances its huge potential and power across the globe, with Mr Modi steering the ship. I am of the view that Britain should rethink its strategy on India with regards to bilateral trade, education and tourism. This is an important international relationship for both countries that should be cherished.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Pakistan needs to pick up

People were a little disappointed with the one-sided batting of the Indian team (“Cricket World Cup 2019: Sarfaraz refuses to give up on Pakistan hopes”, Gulf News, June 18). The bowling and batting done by the Indian team was extremely good, which resulted in their victory. Seeing the ground reality, the captain of the Pakistan team, Sarfaraz Ahmad opted to field first, and this decision resulted in his downfall. Whatever the circumstances, cricket is a game of luck with dedication. I would like to congratulate Kohli and his men for the victory.
