Small Story 526
The Value of a Good Film
Ram, Jagadeesh, and Nandhini arrived at their friend Shashi’s house one pleasant evening. The four friends, all versatile writers who had retired from various professions, had gathered to discuss an important topic close to their hearts — meaningful cinema and the values it could offer to society.
Shashi warmly welcomed them into the hall. It was 4:30 p.m., the perfect time for tea and snacks. His wife, Poornima, had lovingly prepared delicious gulab jamun and crispy onion pakodas, served along with hot tea. The friends enjoyed the refreshments while exchanging light-hearted jokes and laughter.
After tea, Shashi gently steered the conversation toward the purpose of their meeting.
“My dear friends,” he said with a smile, “let us share our thoughts on how we can contribute to bringing good, value-based films to the audience.”
Nandhini began, emphasizing that a strong story and meaningful content are the backbone of any successful film. Jagadeesh agreed, adding that producers should encourage young and talented actors and writers who are striving to make a mark.
Finally, Ram shared his thoughts.
“Friends and fellow writers,” he began thoughtfully, “in any language, story and content are the true heroes of a film. Today, we see many fast-paced action movies flooding the screens. While they entertain, I feel audiences are also longing for films that highlight family bonding, cultural traditions, and moral values.”
He continued, “There are many young talents in acting, writing, and filmmaking emerging from small platforms and digital screens. Their creativity deserves recognition and support. Producers with good vision and positive thinking must come forward to encourage these young directors — especially those trained in reputed acting and film institutes in Bengaluru and across the country.”
The room fell silent for a moment as everyone reflected on his words. They all felt that meaningful cinema could indeed bring positive change to society.
After spending ninety productive minutes together, the friends thanked Shashi and Poornima for their warm hospitality and departed with renewed enthusiasm. All of them agreed that Ram’s ideas, if put into action, could inspire films filled with values and purpose.
They left with hope in their hearts — determined to contribute to a new wave of meaningful cinema.
