Small Story 514 System Shivanna’s Timely Encounter Shivanna returned home from his office, counting the final days of his career. Only one more week remained before he retired from the PWD department, where he had served faithfully as an engineer. His daughter Poornima had arrived from Singapore along with her son Akash, who was studying in the 8th standard. Her husband, an IT professional, could not accompany them due to work commitments. Seeing his daughter and grandson after a long time filled Shivanna’s heart with happiness. Poornima had thoughtfully brought her father’s favorite chocolates, biscuits, and homemade halwa prepared especially for him. In the evening, Poornima mentioned that at 7 p.m., a relative of her Singapore friend would visit to collect a parcel. Right on time, a young man arrived and introduced himself as Raju, a bank employee. He was smart, intelligent, and well-mannered. Shivanna was instantly impressed and thought of recommending his sister’s daughter, Revathi, as a suitable match for him. Just then, as if destiny had planned it, Shivanna’s sister called to say she was on her way to meet Poornima—along with Revathi. Shivanna smiled, sensing something special. As the evening progressed and introductions were made, Shivanna noticed that Raju and Revathi were comfortable with each other and shared a natural connection. A few days later, true to his systematic nature, Shivanna contacted Raju’s father, Mahadeva, a retired Executive Engineer from the PWD and Shivanna’s former senior officer. When Shivanna spoke about the meeting between their children, Mahadeva was delighted. He felt proud that his son had found a connection within the family of his respected colleague, System Shivanna.
