Tribute to Senior Citizens – 913
Today, the challenges faced by senior citizens and the inspiring ways in which they address them truly deserve appreciation. After formal retirement at the age of 60—and even after working for another ten years in the private sector—they enter a new phase of life known as senior citizenship. This phase, however, is far from inactive.
Many senior citizens living in their localities organize themselves to meet daily at a common place. They spend at least an hour every day discussing ways to improve their surroundings and contribute meaningfully to society. Some groups have adopted primary schools, where they teach and guide young children. Other groups dedicate their time to helping physically challenged individuals by offering counseling and emotional support. There are also seniors who engage in creative pursuits such as playwriting and drama, encouraging cultural development and artistic expression.
In a multicultural city like Bengaluru, senior citizens play a vital role and truly stand out as unsung heroes. Their selfless service to the needy and their deep concern for the future development of the city and its youth are commendable. They have proved beyond doubt that age is only a number and that leadership has no expiry date.
By virtue of the varied positions they once held and the vast experience they possess, senior citizens continue to guide people toward the right path. Retirement, in reality, exists only in name; mentally and socially, they remain active and engaged. Many take special interest in advising their grandchildren, helping them with studies, values, and life skills, often even offering tuition and mentorship.
Overall, in today’s world, senior citizens are playing a vital role in society in their own unique and meaningful ways. Their wisdom, service, and dedication remain a strong foundation for community growth and social harmony.
