Small Story 536.

 Small Story 536

 Laptop Mystery

Ranjeetha entered the elegant apartment in Jayalakshmipuram, Mysore, to attend a complaint from Smitha, wife of the famous industrialist Paramesh. The apartment complex had only thirty posh independent houses and was located in a prime area.

Smitha warmly welcomed Ranjeetha, offered her a seat, and served tea.

Looking worried, Smitha explained, “From this morning, I cannot find our laptop. It contains all our property records and important documents. Usually, it stays in our bedroom. Only my husband and I use it.”

Ranjeetha calmly replied, “No need to panic, Madam. Perhaps your husband has taken it.”

Smitha shook her head. “He would have told me. Today he said he was going to meet Haveri, a good friend of his. There is no possibility of him carrying the laptop without informing me.”

“Did you call your husband?” Ranjeetha asked.

“He said he would be in a meeting and would return by 5 p.m. Since he left at 9 a.m. and I noticed the laptop missing, I called your Chief OO1. He is also a good friend of my husband. He immediately sent you for the investigation.”

Ranjeetha carefully looked around the house and then said confidently, “The laptop is in safe hands. You mentioned Haveri. Who is he?”

“He is my husband’s confidential friend. They meet often,” Smitha replied.

“What does he do?” Ranjeetha asked.

“I forgot his profession. I will try to recall,” said Smitha.

Ranjeetha smiled. “He must be a lawyer friend of your husband. I believe your husband has taken the laptop with him.”

Suddenly, Smitha remembered. “Yes! You are right. He is a lawyer!”

At that very moment, her mobile phone rang.

“Hello, it’s me,” said her husband. “Today you must come to my friend Haveri’s house for tea. His daughter got engaged.”

Smitha immediately asked, “You have taken the laptop?”

“Yes, I told you I was going to meet Haveri. You must have forgotten,” he replied.

“Sorry. I will be there at 4 p.m.,” she said.

Smitha turned to Ranjeetha with a smile. “Your investigation method is amazing.”

“Thank you, Madam. It is all because of my Chief OO1's training,” Ranjeetha replied modestly.

Smitha felt relieved and happy. The laptop mystery was solved, and at the same time, Haveri’s daughter had found a good bridegroom.
