Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 31 Aug 16,Overcoming a crisis
Former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Kofi Annan’s opinion on the ongoing crisis in Myanmar and on how the ethnic clashes have taken so many casualties was an interesting read (‘Annan to advise Myanmar on troubled Rakhine state’, Gulf News, August 25). Will Myanmar overcome the present crisis and have a better administration? Sectarianism should be eradicated and a new administration should come. Will this happen?

Each country has got different rules and regulations and Canada is firm in its decision of telling US tourists to leave their guns at home when they visit Canada (‘Canada tells US tourists to leave guns at home’, Gulf News, August 24). Seeing the American’s gun culture and the incidents that have taken many lives, Canada has done well enforcing the law. Ultimately, safety is very important.

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 28Aug 16,Face book   debate: What happens to our elders?
Are we facing a grave social issue as family values breakdown, elders are being subjected to abuse or being left to fend for themselves?   A difficult social issue
Today elders have lost their respect from the younger generations. This is mainly due to the aspiration of the younger generations, migrating to various countries, leaving their old parents either alone or in homes. However, not all the younger generations are doing this. Some parents also act in different ways to their children, which leads to disrespect from them. Overall, in today’s fast life, this issue is a very common one on a global level. Youngsters should think of the day when they will also be old and will be facing the same problem. This issue is a tricky one. One should analyse and act.

Letter Published in GulfNews UAE on 28 Aug 16,Problems can be solved
The recent move from Indian legal experts favouring the abolition of suicide attempts was a welcoming one (‘Legal experts favour abolition of law against suicide attempt’, Gulf News, August 22). Most of the suicide attempts are due to financial stress after borrowing money and paying high interest rates. The government should monitor the private lenders over charging higher interest rates to the common people, farmers and others. The main cause of the suicide attempts are borrowing, a failed love or cast discrimination. Every citizen wanted to live, but due to pressure beyond their control, they tend to take a fatal decision. I am happy this move has come from experts, it will help people who failed in some aspect of their life to realise it’s not the end.

Article.

Article Published in The Gulf Today UAE on 27Aug 16, (My Article 480)

Sweet conversation

When I was young, I used to love sweets. I would not miss any chance to grab them. My grandchildren too have the same habit. Recently, at a function, my grandchildren compelled me to take sweets. But I refused. They were surprised and asked for the reason.

I replied, “It’s true I used to love sweets, but I had taken too much of them during my earlier days. That is why doctors have now restrained me.”

When they continued to insist that I should take, I retorted: “It’s true that life is short and we should make it sweet. But one can do so without consuming sweets too.” They laughed and dropped the idea to compel me.
