 Small Story 757

The Importance of a PIN Code

Searching for an address is not always an easy task in today’s rapidly expanding cities.

Keshav came from Bengaluru to Chennai one morning to attend the wedding of his old classmate, Venu, in the Anna Nagar area. From Chennai Central Railway Station, he took an auto-rickshaw and gave the driver the address mentioned in the wedding invitation.

The auto driver reached Anna Nagar and started asking for directions at every corner. However, many people could not identify the exact location of the marriage hall. Keshav was about to call his friend Venu when his mobile phone rang. It was his other classmate, Veena.

“Hey, Keshav! How are you? Venu told me that you are attending the wedding. I am the bride! I came to know only today that you are coming. Where are you now?”

“I am in an auto, but we are unable to find the marriage hall. I will give the phone to the auto driver. Could you please guide him?”

Keshav handed the phone to the driver.

Veena explained to the auto driver, “The wedding was fixed at very short notice, so we had to make the arrangements quickly. Because of this, there was a small error in the address printed on the invitation. We corrected the wording within two days, but unfortunately, we did not notice that the PIN code was missing. We have now realised the mistake and informed our friends.”

She continued, “Most of our friends live in this area and are familiar with the marriage hall. But some of our old friends, who are coming from other places, are finding it difficult to locate it.”

Then she gave the driver clear directions.

“You know the Anna Nagar Shopping Complex, don’t you? Take the next road after the shopping complex. The marriage hall is the first building on that road.”

Following Veena’s directions, the auto driver reached the marriage hall within a few minutes.

Keshav thanked the driver for his sincere effort and paid him ₹20 extra.

When he met Venu and Veena, he smiled and said, “Venu, I never knew that Veena was your bride! What a pleasant surprise.”

After enjoying a good lunch and some delicious sweets, Keshav spent time with his old friends. That same evening, he left for Bengaluru by train.

As he settled into his seat, he thought about the incident. Since the wedding had been arranged at short notice, a small error had occurred in the invitation, and the missing PIN code had made it difficult to find the exact location.

Fortunately, the helpful and sincere auto driver had saved the location on his mobile phone, which also helped them reach the marriage hall.

Keshav smiled and thought, “A PIN code may look like just a few numbers, but it can play a vital role in finding the correct location.”
