Letter Published in The National UAE on 18 Nov 22 Population growth is a double-edged sword i write in reference to Adla Massoud's article World's population hitting 8 billion not a 'doomsday scenario', UN official says (November 15): that the global population has reached such a high figure is, no doubt, an indicator of the progress humankind has made on a range of factors. But does this bode well for the future of our species and the planet we live on? The Earth has finite resources that are being consumed at breakneck speed, and it is becoming less inhabitable every year. The climate crisis is daunting, as is the prospect of employment going forward. It is deeply worrying. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Great loss.

The demise of the Popular actor Krishna is a very great loss to the filmindustry particularly for telugu film industry. My condolences to his family especially actor Mahesh babu and other family members.May his soulrest inpeace. K.Ragavan.

Tribute to EHC(740)

Today I remembered my participation in a newly started forum which made everyone laugh. In December 2008,two good friends asked me to participate in their newly-started elite forum.Attended the inaugural programme and was thrilled by the enthusiastic response of the crowd that came from all walks of life.The duo are none other than K.G.Guna and Suresh.The elite forum was just started ,the Emirates Humour club.Iwas Happy about the concept ,to make others laugh.From Paediatric to Gereatric one can participate and deliver Jokes,Mimicry and skits to make the audience laugh.Needless to Mention the VISA(Very InterestingSettai Appa) skit which covers the current event with a humorous presentation by Suresh and team(Settai xavier,Appasamy and Arputham).I have been watching this club's steady growth and today nearly 150,Members are on the roll,which is remarkable.Recently , a guest remarked that the programme was better than many TVshows.This speaks about the tremendous efforts put in by Suresh and Guna.The Players -From Paediatric,Sow.Varsiga,Rishi,Shalini,Sowmya ,Thannir malai,and Geriatrics,Panner,Pravin,Kamesh,Karthik,Lakshmi anantha sayanan,Subramanian and Suresh deserves a pat.The Man who draws thunderous applause wahid also deserves kudos.There are several others who performed their role hilariously as stress-busters.Though ihave left the Golden Land Dubai For my native place India,my memory takes me back there often.Wishing EHC to celebrate many more anniversaries. Letter Published in The National UAE on 11Nov 22O,rgan donation is a lifeline With regard to Shireena Al Nowais's article Double lung transplant recipient in Al Ain tells of joy at second lease of life (November 9): This was a very meaningful story. Amazing to read about the young man Justin Anthony doing so well. Such reports will surely go a long way to convince people to register for organ donation. The act of wanting to help others live has great power. Donor willingness captures the best of humanity. Others who may be ailing from diseases can get new hope if they get a donor. It is also a lifeline to families of the patient. That Justin is now healthy and cheerful is laudable, after all the medical stress in his life. Heartening to read about him thanking his doctors. The figures also speak of increasing willingness among the population to sign up. That 400 lives in the UAE and Saudi have been saved is wonderful. It shows the power of organ donation. Unfortunately a lot of people shy away from it but such examples can change thinking. Organ donation campaigns can spread awareness and help people overcome reluctance. Kudos to the UAE and Saudi Arabia for championing such a worthy cause. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Tribute to Late Director D.Yoganand. 739.

Today I remembered another interesting personality from the SouthIndian Film Industry is none other than Late Director D.Yoganand..Started his career with Late Veteran Director L.V.Prasad in Samsaram film if i am right.Later he became an independent Director and directed more than Fifty to Sixty films of Telugu and Tamil is worth to be mention here.All the Yesteryear actors M.G.R,Sivaji Ganesan,N.T,.R.,SarojaDevi,Devika,GeminiGanesh ,S.S.R.PandariBai and many prominent actors acted in his moves.Good music,songs,and Cinematography will be visible in his films Decades back was laudable.I have seen few Tamil films of this Stalwart.Those films are,MaruMagal,Kaveri,MaduraiVeeran,BoologaRambai,AnbuEngay,ValarPirai,ParthibanKanavu (old),Parisu,Rani Yar Kulandai,Thaai,GruhaPravesam .and few i am unable to recollect.He is one of the few Directors made big films and created a big impact in those days can not be denied.Even though this Doyen departed still his good old films remembered and seen by Cine fans and especially his own.Today i am very happy to pay tribute to this Stalwart. Letter Published inThe National UAE on4 Nov 22 Deadly bridge collapse was avoidable With reference to Taniya Dutta's article India's deadly bridge collapse probably caused by rusty cables (November 2): It was very sad to read about the avoidable deaths caused by the bridge collapse in India's western Gujarat state. There are questions about laxity and improper maintenance of public infrastructure. It is reckless to have opened the bridge without the necessary safety checks. The 233-metre bridge from the time of the British regime killed more than 135 people. The nine people including ticket-booking clerks who have been arrested is a small comfort to shattered families. Complete accountability needs to be sought of how things could have come to such a head. The human stories, about those who lost their lives in the accident, including the 35 young children, are heartbreaking. It is suspicious also why renovation work was contracted to a clock manufacturer. How could the authorities have assumed rusty cables would not be a serious security hazard? Whatever be the compensation bestowed to victims' kin, lives won't come back. I pray for the departed souls and hope there is strict action taken so accidents such as these never happen again.
