Will live on in films

The 67-year-old veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor's demise is an irrecoverable loss for the Bollywood film industry. He started his first film with his father, Raj Kapoor, also a veteran actor. Rishi Kapoor made his first on-screen appearance in a cameo for a song, in his father’s film “Shree 420” when he was three years old. He acted in many films and did all kinds of roles and captured the minds of millions. His relatively latest film, “102 Not Out” with Amitabh Bachchan was remarkable. Kapoor is no more, but his films are still here. This is another blow to the film industry. I pray for his grieving family during this time.

Regarding Sophie Prideaux's report Legendary Indian actor Irrfan Khan dies at the age of 53 (April 29): this is a deep loss to the film industry and to audiences everywhere who loved his acting and his pick of the most versatile roles. Irrfan Khan was in a league of his own. I especially enjoyed his films The Lunchbox and Life of Pi. May his soul rest in peace.

It makes people feel safe. A vast country like India too has so far managed to handle the spread. All administrations must continue to take the pandemic seriously to save lives.

Tribute to Writer-Director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar April 27, 2020 Today, I remembered another interesting film personality from the Kannada Film Industry – none other than screenwriter and director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar. In his more than three decades of film career, he has worked with all the leading actors, technicians, and music directors. His contributions are certainly worth mentioning. Known for his powerful scriptwriting and direction, he has received many awards for his creations. Though he has many films to his credit, I’ve only seen two of his films: America America and India vs England. In the earlier film, Ramesh Aravind played his role very well. America America featured beautiful cinematography by Sunny Joseph, while his recent film, India vs England, was handled excellently in both script and direction, delivering a powerful message to the audience. Stalwarts like Anant Nag, Sumalatha, Prakash Belawadi, Vashista Simha, and Manvitha delivered strong performances in their roles. The soft-spoken and versatile legend Anant Nag portrayed a memorable character. The pleasing cinematography by the trio Satya Hegde, Will Price, and A.V. Krishna Kumar is another highlight of the movie. India vs England is one of the most sophisticated films I have enjoyed recently. I have been repeatedly writing in this column that whoever does a good job in any field should be recognized. India’s lockdown extended

The extension of the lockdown in India from April 15 from May 3 was a welcome move from Prime Minster Narendra Modi (“COVID-19 in India: Lockdown reveals fresh air, cleaner rivers", www.gulfnews.com, April 22). The announcement gave good news for the Indians who were staying at home. The lockdown deadline is May 3, which makes the total days people in India would have spent in lockdown, to be 40. I think India has monitored the coronavirus pandemic very well and compared to the population of India. The main task for the Modi government is to make arrangements for the migrant workers staying in various states. This issue is very important and the government needs to act.
