Letter Published in The National UAE on 17June, Prevent children from falling into wells This is reference to Taniya Dutta’s article Indian boy trapped in well with snakes rescued after 105 hours (June 14): this is simply wonderful news. After what must have been four traumatic days for the boy, his parents and all his his near and dear ones, young Rahul can be home safely. Considering 40 children have died in similar accidents from 2009 to 2019, according to the National Disaster Response Force, Rahul is fortunate to survive four days in such dire conditions, although he is likely to live with the trauma for some time. We should all congratulate the rescue team for completing what was evidently a tricky operation. It is high time that local governments begin implementing safety measures to ensure children don’t fall into wells, particularly in rural areas. Parents should be careful, of course, but governments need to secure all possible accident-prone zones so that the likelihood of such cases occurring in the future is drastically reduced. Tribute to late LakshmiVasudevan 717. Few days back we had a terrible shock to our family.Our beloved niece Lakshmi Passed away.We could not believe the news when we heard from relatives. One of the few personalities whom i admire for her respectful behaviour,knowledge,good deeds to temples and other help to deserving people without making any publicity.I Know her for the past 49 years and for the past two years only she was suffering and lastly she departed and gave a big blow to her Son and daughter.She has attended many discourses of our SriVaishnava Sampradayam and learned many things can not be ignored.Smiling ,Soft spoken well behaved Lakshmi is no more,but her Legacy will continue by her daughter and son .With in a year we all got the shock of three important personalities Mrs and Mr ORS and Sow Lakshmi.My three children are more attached to her and whenever occasions they will be together.Above all my wife has special attachment to her like eldest daughter.Her loss is irrecoverable for our family.Before i conclude she and her late husband Vasudevan are the main instrumental for me to land the golden land Dubai in 1993.Today I am tributing my niece LakshmiVasudevan not only for her philanthropic deeds but also for being one of the outstanding personalities of our family. Letter Published in The National UAE on 10June 22, Zero tolerance towards financial crimes I write in reference to Ramola Talwar Badam’s article Inside the Dubai mansion of South Africa's Gupta brothers (June 8): it wouldn't be right to comment on whether the Gupta brothers are guilty of the crimes they have been alleged to have committed. But it is good to know that there are serious efforts to tackle financial crimes, whether they are in the UAE, South Africa, or other countries around the globe. There should be zero tolerance towards such crimes, particularly if they render the state poorer. Whether the Gupta brothers, or whoever else, are found innocent or guilty, I hope justice is delivered. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Letter Published in The National UAE on 3June 22 Remembering Sidhu Moosewala With reference to Taniya Dutta's article Sidhu Moosewala: Indian pop singer-politician killed in 'inter-gang violence' (May 30): I condemn the killing of one of India's most promising pop stars. An investigation is on and I hope the perpetrators are caught and tried. The Punjab state government has rightly beefed up security for about 400-odd individuals based on their profile and importance. But it is only fair to ask why the government reduced the security personnel for a number of these people, including, unfortunately, Moosewala. It is a sad time for India, given that, shortly after Moosewala's killing, fellow singer "KK" – a household name for at least two decades – died of a heart attack not long after performing at a concert.
