The recent incident involving an Air India pilot testing positive in a dope test is deeply concerning and the resulting inconvenience and discomfort caused to passengers is completely unacceptable. Despite the stringent medical and safety checks in place, such incidents continue to occur, which is not only disappointing but also deeply distressing.
Merely suspending a pilot’s licence may not be sufficient to address the larger issue. The priority must be to ensure that passengers are never put at risk or left stranded and inconvenienced in mid-air due to such lapses. There should be stronger preventive measures, stricter monitoring, and greater accountability to ensure that only fully fit and responsible pilots are permitted to operate flights.
