Letter Published in KhaleejTimes UAE on 23 June 17  The recent exit of soft and sophisticated Anil Kumble is not a healthy development. According to the media, skipper Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble could not get along. It seems like politics plays a major role in sports, too. We will have to wait and see who the new coach will be.

Letter Published in Gulf NewsUAE on 23June 17,Trophy win, a great achievement for Pakistan
The recent thumping victory for Pakistan against India in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy and the huge difference in runs was a great achievement for the Pakistan team. Despite winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli should have chosen for batting, allowing Pakistan to chase.

Above all, the top batsmen miserably failed and only Hardik Pandya proved his mettle. The Indian team has completely disappointed millions of viewers and this defeat cannot be digested. I do agree that cricket is a game of luck, but no sincere attempt has been made by the Indian team is my opinion. Kudos to Pakistan team for their excellent performance!

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 18 June 17,Using violence for a cause
The recent Indian hill resort Darjeeling Separatists group, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), strike turned into violence and many fled (‘Tourists flee as Darjeeling troubles boil over’, Gulf News, June 13). GJM was asking for a separate state for them and the dialogue between them and government has been going on for years and this time they have come with a firm determination and the strike turned violent. The government was forced to deploy soldiers and 12 were injured during the clash was sad. Protests and strikes can be conducted in a peaceful manner and violence is not the answer. I hope the government will consider their request and if it is genuine it can be implemented. Already many states were born from strikes and protests, hence why GJM was fighting for years. Will the government take up their call? We will have to wait and see.

The recent dramatic development from the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) launching a 640-tonne rocket was demonstrating the Indian scientists’ capabilities (‘India shows off space prowess with launch of mega-rocket’, Gulf News, June 6). The recent announcement by Trump on the withdrawal of the Paris Agreement was a shocking one. World leaders have mixed reactions on his decision, whereas Trump continues to defend his decision for the welfare for his people. However, Trump’s decision may yield for Americans temporarily, in the long run it may not. This decision is not a wiser one as per the views of world leaders.

The recent worst attacks that Kabul, Afghanistan has ever witnessed over the past 18 months is unacceptable (‘Explosions rock funeral in tense Kabul’, Gulf News, June 4). Terrorist groups are a big threat and nightmare for innocent civilians. The real cause of the latest attack is yet to be known. Which terror group is taking the credit? We will have to wait and see. American troops should help the Afghan government to make the situation normal and to bring peace for the people. I pray for the innocent victims and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Article Published in Gulf News UAE on 4June 17,

Any sport should be rewarded

‘When I applaud the concept for cricket, I wonder why other games aren’t encouraged the same?’In my country, India, particularly in my city of Bengaluru, basketball is quickly becoming more and more popular among teenage boys and girls. It’s amazing to watch the way they practise and play in tournaments. Games of all sorts, like football, hockey, basketball, table tennis and many others should be encouraged. Already India is supporting more for cricket and the encouragement for the players is fantastic, comparing to the old days. When I applaud the concept for cricket, I wonder why other games aren’t encouraged the same?
Basketball players should be encouraged with certificates, motivation and rewards. Infrastructure, like playground facilities should be improved. Proper seating arrangements and washrooms should be provided. Most of the players’ grandparents come to watch the match and they are finding it difficult to ease themselves because of poor infrastructure. My government should take care of infrastructure facilities for the visitors. Basketball is taking shape. Already US basketball is highly regarded and players get scholarships for higher studies and job opportunities.

My opinion is that any game should be encouraged. In basketball, players should show their skills and movement for scoring. The amount of practice the players spend and the execution of play should be rewarded. Good seating, washrooms and, above all, cleanliness of the ground is important and the government should monitor periodically whether these facilities are maintained.
Since my city is a famous IT hub and many will be watching if they visit the playground, just like the famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium that attracts many, if the basketball ground or stadium was maintained and kept clean like that of my garden city, it will spread throughout the world. My request is for basketball players to be rewarded and the coaches, also. Will my government take up this call?

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 2 June 17,Improvements needed
In Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three year tenure, the Indian National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has done some important things for the development of the country, particularly with regards to demonetisation and infrastructure facilities (‘Naidu keen to continue alliance with BJP’, Gulf News, May 29). These developments are laudable and despite opposition criticisms, the Indian government has looked at the interest of all communities and their welfare. Still, the fact that the NDA government was called a communal party, was sad to read. Congress had ruled for so many years and they did not make so many improvements, yet they claim that they are the old national party. The NDA should take care of important aspects, like inflation of day-to-day consumables, which has not come down, and bank interest rates for senior citizens. Will the NDA address these two important issues?
