Letter Published in BM on 1Jan 20No wonder techies prefer the train
K Ragavan writes the story ‘Local trains are a techie’s best friend’ nicely elaborated on the hurdles techies residing in Kengeri, Mysore Road are facing and how local trains are useful to them. During peak traffic and congestion, techies prefer to hop on to trains. Till the time Metro is introduced to Electronics City and Whitefield, trains will remain their favourite mode of transport. Hope that Metro will speed up its work to finish the projects in the tech corridor.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 1Jan 20 It takes vision and years of work to achieve the greening of a desert  With regard to John Dennehy’s article The man who turned the UAE’s desert green (December 29): kudos to David Pryce and the UAE capital. It was interesting to read about Mr Pryce’s mission four decades ago to turn the desert into a beautiful green place. It is evident that he made the capital green with his hard work and dedication.I am sure citizens appreciate his effort. Apart from Mr Pryce’s work, the visionary leaders of UAE have made the desert into a lush landscape. The legacy of UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, has continued to inspire the next generation and helped put the country on the map.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

2019 At a Glance.

The year 2019 has gone..Even though it has gone very fast  there is no interesting events in the Global level is my opinion. Many Air,and Fire accidents, are more visible in the Global  scenario.Political instability in some countries viz Iraq,Libya,Egypt made tough for the people. With all the draw backs UAE shown dramatic improvement in Technology field particularly in space,Education and International arena 'Above all their plans  for coming five decades with their leaders is laudable.European world the much talked Brexit still continuing but with the new elected  administration may solve the  crisis.France also had strikes and protests'The trade war between US and China,Migration policies of US ,Visa restrictions for  workers ,Mexico wall  debate and the latest Impeachment of President Donald Trump are not a healthy trend.Coming back to South Asian countries India has faced lots of protests for their new amendment CAAfrom variouds groups ,opposition, students made the simple issue to a political mileage .Srilanka administration has changed and the ties between Srilanka and China strengthened further.Pakistan is still talk of the state in the Global map for their terror sponsoring attitude and LOC crossing. .
India even though developing in all aspects still there is  a slow in economy, unemployment which the ruling NDA government Under the leader ship of Narendra Modi  will solve in the coming days with new strategy. His administration has demonstrated a very good rapport with Inter National Community  especially with UAE,Oman,KSA and Middle east Israel.Iran is continue to differ it's nuclear policy and creating conflicts with US and Middle east.Over all 2019 with so many hurdles and natural calamities viz,Flood ,earth quakes and also few train accidents. In india rape especially gang rapes has increased and many suicides over harassment and abuse  was visible.Hope 2020 will be a good year for the entire Globe  and International community will function  peacefully with harmony .US should  solve it's gun culture which is a big threat for the globe  and hope  they will.Wishing  all the readers A Very Happy and Healthy New year with. Peace.

Letter Published in BM on 31Dec 19 Government offices can do much better
K Ragavan writes, the traffic policemen still use the old shed as their office and it is quite sad to note (12 years a crave). Despite a proper building being constructed for the traffic police department, the department preferring the old shed is surprising. Government departments should be kept clean and tidy, especially the police department. Will KR Puram traffic police occupy the new premises and maintain it

Letter Published in BM on 30Dec 19 New Year revelry with limits K Ragavan writes on Twitter, a good precautionary measures on the new eve on prime locations in the city.Normally new year eve’s some unexpected incidents and clashes may happen.Being a cosmopolitan hub the police arrangements are good gesture. The police will have a great task ahead of them, that is to maintain law and order and not let 2016 be repeated. To avoid such incidenst, even the general public should take care of things and take part in safe New Year celebrations.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 30Dec 19 Somalia tragedy: Distressing to read about terror attacks and the lives they claimI write in reference to your article Mogadishu attack: car bomb in Somali capital kills at least 79 (December 28): news about fatal attacks of any kind at any time of the year and targeting any one is very hard to take in. But the bomb blast in Mogadishu that has left scores of people dead in the Somali capital seems even more cruel because it claimed the lives of many youngsters who were simply going to university. Also, how cynical is the timing, given that a new year with new goals were upon them.Their deaths are not only a tragedy for the loved ones they have left behind but also for Somalia. Here is a country that has struggled with all kinds of strife for decades and yet there seems no solution in sight. Even though this is a time of year to be joyful and hopeful, I find this latest tragedy most distressing and disheartening. All I can do at this moment is pray for those who have died but also for those who have survived – in the hope that this will not happen again.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Letter Published in  BM on 29Dec 19 Happy marriages are becoming rare
With reference to ‘Living away from spouse cruelty’, K Ragavan writes, Indian marriages are meant only for husband and wife to live together so this case is strange. There are examples of wives being cruel towards their husbands. Husbands should also respect their better halves. The court favoured that the woman not live alone. Sadly, these days happy marriages have become a rare occurrence.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 29Dec 19Gender equality should be a reality, not a mythical, textbook concept
With regard to Tahira Yaqoob’s op-ed From ‘Lean In’ to #MeToo: this was the decade that redefined how we talk about women (December 26): the piece on the darts player cum British hairdresser Fallon Sherrock was meaningful and thought-provoking. As the article nicely articulated, despite women’s domination in all areas, including sports, gender equality still evades us. The writer skillfully demonstrated that not only is this reality sad but also painful. Good one.

I write to you in reference to Deena Kamel’s piece Emirates chief Tim Clark to retire in June 2020 (December 24): the announced retirement of stalwart airline chief Tim Clark from his position as president of Emirates was sad to read.
With three-and-a-half decades of experience and a vision that helped Emirates airline flourish, Mr Clark will be dearly missed.
His departure is a great loss to the airline but his wisdom will always be remembered.

Factory fire in Delhi

This is with reference to the recent Delhi factory fire that took many lives. This will be the largest number of casualties reported in a fire accident. The Indian Capitol Delhi is a very busy city and this place is crowded and hence the victims could not rush immediately. A probe should be made. If fire safety measures are not maintained properly, the factory is liable to compensate for the victims. Despite the compensation the lives lost won’t come back.

Independent Gone New Bonding Born.

After  living for nearly a decade independently  me and my wife  was asked by our be loved daughters to wind up our establishment to join with them  because both of them are relocating in two different places.Since earlier i was staying close to them  they have taken this decision was the latest development in my life. After retiring in 2009 from Dubai me and my wife lived separately near by to them..This idea sounds good to me and wife because of the age factor .Grand children are the assets of  any Senior citizen and they are the cementing factor between their parents and to us.We moved to the new place where busy atmosphere and tranquility waiting for us.As a person i love every body  and by virtue of my Marketing profession i mingle with every one easily.Similarly my better half also  mingle with her circle .Since she is more interested in Nalayira Divya Prabandam and Thirupavai  she acquired  two friends  near by where we moved a fortnight back only.
My twin grand sons are in to basketball playing  state as well National level  added  to my pleasure.
Morning after reading news paper and sent mails to news papers on my opinion for various issues my daily routine starts in the new place with my eldest daughter .Initially my wife was fish out of water for few days because of the past half decade she has performed Upanyasam on Thiruppavai in our old
apartment Mantri Tranquil later she consoled that and preparing the discourse for the new environment.Evenings i watch our pet animal Hamster in the cage  brought by my eldest grand son
now who is in US for studying PG.Initially i was not keen on his idea of bringing to home but later after seeing i developed a liking. It is like a brown rabit  where i have seen in US.Similarly my second daughter's son pressed his dad and   brought a Dobearman dog for their new independent house in Thalakatupura area was also nice..The naming ceremony of the dog was nicely celebrated with all the family members as Duke. Before conclude  i always remember the quote of Late Swami Vivekananda
If you feel you are happy you are .If you feel you are not happy you are.Only our mind set tells like that. Me and my wife are very happy spending time  with my  bonding daughters and grand children

I write to you in reference to Ruchi Kumar and Hikmat Noori’s article Afghan elections: Ashraf Ghani set for victory after preliminary results (December 22): with the results of the latest presidential election in Afghanistan being far from obvious, the people of this war-ravaged country are likely to face plenty of uncertainty in the coming days and weeks. Abdullah Abdullah, the country’s chief executive, is set to challenge the outcome in what could be a repeat of the previous election in 2014 when he lost to President Ghani.
It is important for both candidates to once again come to terms with the result – and each other – so that they can build a stable government that the country so desperately needs. A strong and united government is essential for the peace and prosperity of Afghanistan.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 19Dec 19Domestic violence is an issue; so is violence against domestic helpers
I write to you in reference to your editorial Domestic violence is a silent scourge that must be banished (December 17): it is important to talk about domestic violence, because it is a global issue. But I think it is just as crucial to highlight another menace that occurs in several households around the world – that of violence against domestic helpers.
Many of them are not treated with respect by their employers, with some of them even being regularly subjected to verbal and physical abuse. Several such instances have been reported in India where I live.
On the one hand, it appears to be a local problem that deserves local solutions. But given that many cases involve migrant labour, the international community must also intervene – if only to apply pressure on the authorities of the country in question to intervene.

I write to you in reference to the article written by Anam Rizvi and Ramola Talwar Badam titled Indians in UAE worry for families at home as protests erupt against citizenship law (December 16).
I understand that the Citizenship Amendment Act that was passed by the Indian government to exclude Muslim immigrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan is controversial and has therefore created massive furore across the country. However, India has had an illegal immigration problem that needed dealing with. Prime minister Narendra Modi has assured us of everyone’s safety, including that of the minorities, and we should take his word for it. I am confident India will fulfil its human rights obligations.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 17Dec 19Those responsible for Bangladesh fire must be held accountable
I write to you in reference to your news item Bangladesh factory fire kills at least 10 (December 16)
This piece on the recent fires in a factory in the Bangladeshi capital was a heartbreaking read.
Factory fire accidents have become increasingly common in Asian countries in recent months.
This is the second one I have heard of in Bangladesh recently. The reason for the fire is unknown, which is why I believe authorities should investigate it further and hold those responsible to account.
If it turns out that the factory did not implement the required safety measures, their licence to operate should be revoked.
The lives of innocent employees must be saved at all costs.

Tribute to Sundaravalli.588.

Today i am going to pen another interesting personality who  created a big impact through her dedicated work in Tirupavai over decades and past half decade with her inspiring Upanyasam  . with  huge audience where she lived and the surroundings is none other than Sundaravalli. She started her Kalakshebam with  Late Annadur VaradaChariar in Mysore and later had  with different   Acharyas  in vedanta  subjects and strictly devoted her life only on vedanta subjects connected with Sri vaishnavam and it's principles. With her mesmerizing narration in Thirupavai  Upanyasam and lectures with authenticity and  Nalayira Divya Prabandam classes  she acquired precious students who follow her foot steps is not an exaggerated one.Her dedication, taking notes on various Scholars books she not only developed her knowledge but also  passing to people for their benefits is laudable.
Her Acharyan Bhakti and devotion is admirable. She was liked by  one and all in the community irrespective of caste and liked her principles of promoting  Vedanta principles.I have been seeing her involvement over the years and her development in communicating the audience including big scholars  is simply superb. If December month comes  every one look for  her Thirupavai Upanyasam and  each day song explanation . There is no surprise why her speeches are liked by all because she has been  blessed by the goddess Sri Andal Nachiar. Many incidents she has  proved her mettle.I have been writing this column for more than Eleven years  giving tribute to various personalities who ever done a good work irrespective of caste and religion. Her interaction with her Acharyans and following their lectures is amazing She has  given a title by her students and followers.as Andal Lady or Mami which is a common word in Hindu community. .Before conclude this week tribute i am breaking the suspense  whom  this talented lady and  she  is none other than my wife.I am making a  suspense and surprise  to her through this tribute  for the work she has done for more than Three and half decades.Wishing her  to deliver  every year the great Thirupavai Upanyasam to the community   with her Acharyan Sri math Andavan and Sri  Kothai Nachiar's blessings.

K Ragavan found the queries and responses during BM phone-in event on cyber crime informative and insightful. He writes, victims shouldn’t just go to their banks and complain, but should have prior knowledge and conduct proper research and investigation before doing transactions online. With reference to HA Hellyer’s op-ed Whoever wins the British election must fight the rise of hate and bigotry (December 9): as Mr Hellyer’s analysis rightly mentioned, hate and bigotry should be eradicated, regardless of who comes to power. Across the globe, the idea of tolerance seems to be slowly vanishing. After years of controversial debates around Brexit, the British people deserve to live in peace. The incident had the highest number of causalities in the fires over the last two decades. The Indian capital Delhi is a busy city and the area where the fire broke out is narrow and crowded, which is why help could not immediately reach the victims. The probe underway must reveal the causes for the fire and subsequent deaths and the guilty should be punished. This is with reference to Tania Dutta’s article, Indian activists and lawyers sound alarm over police killing of rape suspects (December 7). The recent brutal gang rape of a vet followed by the police killing of the gang made sensational news in the Indian media.
Even though the death of the four arrested was welcome news for parents of the victim, Indian activists and lawyers are taking a different view. They say that the encounter should not have been done. Only affected people feel the pinch.
There are mixed reactions in India regarding this case as people are angry. Rapists should be punished once their guilt is proven. Verdicts should not be delayed.

I write to you in reference to your piece Gunmen kill 15 and wound dozens near Tahrir Square (December 6). This news item was a moving read. The ongoing crisis in Iraq has yet to be resolved and as a result, more innocent protesters are losing their lives every single day.
The people are demanding a new, clean government that is not divided along sectarian lines and devoid of corruption but Iranian meddling in the country has prevented Iraqi authorities from choosing a new prime minister that fits the criteria.
I find Ayatollah Al Sistani’s remark about choosing a new leader without being influenced by foreign interference to be quite reasonable. But will it ever happen in Iraq?

Letter Published in The National UAE onEfforts being made to tackle female infanticide in India are laudable
I write in reference to Taniya Dutta’s article As India grapples with gender selection, this village is planting trees in honour of baby girls (November 26): it is laudable that the village of Piplantri has taken up the fight against female infanticide in India, a country where many people still discourage the birth of girls.
The odds are genuinely stacked against Indian women and challenges begin right from birth as many parents believe boys are superior. In my view, they are both equal but that should be every Indian’s conviction as well. Women are as much a part of the story of India’s progress as men are.
Rajasthan in particular has a gender parity issue. So it is important to acknowledge efforts being made by a village in the state to tackle it – symbolic as they might seem.
