Ending the pandemic requires a patient public
I write in reference to Patrick DeHahn's article Washington prepares for lorry convoy protest (February 23): there is undoubtedly a strong anti-government sentiment prevalent among millions of North Americans, particularly in the US but also in Canada. This sentiment has become even stronger due to Covid-19-related mandates enforced by the national governments in both countries. I can understand the frustration among many of them, for life has hardly been normal since the coronavirus outbreak in early 2020. A number of people have lost their jobs and livelihoods and are hurting very badly. That being said, everyone needs to be a little more patient as authorities slowly but surely contain the spread of the virus. Maybe it's just a matter of a few more months. In any case, I hope this particular convoy stages a peaceful protest – unlike the ones in Canada in recent weeks.

Regarding Salam Al Amir's article Ajman Pupil dies after being run over by school bus (Feb 16): this was really tragic. The tiny emirate has seen much development over the decades. Traffic has increased too. It was heartbreaking to read that the bus driver drove forward without paying attention and ran over the 12-year-old. If only the driver had been a little more careful. Fleeting absent mindedness on the road can have the gravest consequences.
Such incidents cannot always be anticipated but when the worst does happen, as in this case, the loss is unbearable, as in this case, for the family of little Sheikha Hassan.
Whatever punishment is meted out to the driver, who could well be stricken with guilt and remorse, and regardless of compensation given to the victim's family, it won't bring the child back to her dear parents.
I felt sad reading this. The emirate is where my office was situated, on a busy street, back in the days when I worked in the UAE.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 11 Feb 22 India needs more Adani-like stories
I write in reference to Deepthi Nair's article Billionaire Gautam Adani overtakes Mukesh Ambani to become Asia’s richest person (February 8): there are those who admire him and there are those who don't, but one cannot deny that Gautam Adani is a self-made man who rose over the past three decades to head what is one of the most powerful groups of companies not just in India but, increasingly, around the world as well. For Mr Adani to become Asia’s richest man is a sign that success, irrespective of one's social and economic status, is possible in India – if one dreams big and works both hard and smart. Governments at all levels also have a role to play, by creating the incentives necessary for people to move up in life and, one day, write their own success stories.

Good advice.
Good words and motive from Vice President.Tirumala temple will be receiving every day thousands of people and in holidays more .The devotee is allowed to have few seconds only ,because the temp;e authorities has to allow all.If VIP's are increasing difficult for devottees. The authorities will concentrate more on VIP's.As per the request of Vice President VIP's should visit once in a year will help the devotees .

Letter Published in The National UAE on 4 Feb 22 India's budget focuses on long-term growth
With regard to Rebecca Bundhun's piece India's growth-focused budget to boost economy as inflation rises (February 1): India’s budget delivered by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman received mixed reactions from industry leaders, political parties, particularly those in the opposition, and panelists in TV debates. The lack of agreement seemed to be one of the main outcomes of the budget.
Salaried middle-class people’s tax slabs remain the same, which is both good and bad news. But it is regrettable that there won’t be a rise in bank interest rates for senior citizens this year either. As a senior citizen myself, I am sad about this apparent negligence towards pensioners. Countless retired people and pensioners have for decades contributed to the growth of the nation.
That quibble apart, I applaud the thought given to the future of the country and its development across sectors. That the intention has been to make India a force to reckon with in the coming decades is laudable.
