Letter Published in BM on 1 Dec 18  PUBG Craze.Parents should guide children  K Ragavan says: Online games have become more popular and most teenagers are addicted to it. Students ae losing interest in studies. Statistics says there are over 400 million PUBG players, a shocking figure. This trend may not be healthy to society and games of violent nature should not be encouraged. I am not surprised that NIMHANS sees over 40 cases every month and so far 120 people have been treated so far. Will authorities concerned take the right call to curb such games?

Letter Published in The National UAE on 29Nov 18Philanthropy is a sign of a healthy and happy nation
With reference to your editorial Charity is a gift that truly keeps giving (November 26), I found the article to be absolutely to the point. The philosophy of the late Founding Father of UAE, Sheikh Zayed, was that wealth should be utilised for the benefit of the people and to develop the nation to be the very best it can be.
Today the UAE is flourishing because of the vision and charitable nature inculcated by the late president. It has been followed by the present-day leaders and residents seeing real value in giving. Generosity is a sign of a healthy, happy, prosperous nation. The UAE’s philanthropic nature is indicative of this.

Hopes for a peaceful solution to Indian religious site disputeI write with reference to your article Ayodhya tense as thousands of Hindus gather near disputed religious site(November 26).

This report offered a careful and detailed account of the ongoing tension in the northern Indian city, which lies in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Hindu groups are calling for the construction of a temple on a disputed religious site, where in 1992 a mosque was destroyed by a mob.
Most Hindus believe that the site is the birthplace of the warrior god Lord Ram. As such, they want a temple to him to be erected there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has been instrumental in the ratcheting up of demands for the building. This matter will also be high on the agenda of political parties during next May’s Lok Sabha elections.
Both Hindu and Muslim groups have petitioned India’s Supreme Court to help resolve the issue.
The state government has deployed police commandos to ensure that clashes between both groups do not occur.
My hope is that all parties will behave in a peaceful manner and that law and order will be maintained.

I write with reference to your excellent editorial piece Globalisation is never an invitation to mock other cultures(November 23). This article was well-written and both meaningful and thought-provoking.
In the globalised world of branded items, fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana wield great influence over consumers around the world.
Culture and tradition are vitally important to people’s identities and it is possible to participate and enjoy the cultures of others within certain boundaries.
However, you do have to remember where you are, and negatively portraying another nationality or their eating habits in your advertisements is far from palatable. I am glad they apologised and removed the advert.

This brutal attack, carried out by Balochistan separatists in the port city Karachi, is to be condemned.Terrorists and militants targeting innocent people of other nationalities in their embassies and consular buildings is absolutely unacceptable. The assault was claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army. Three attackers arrived at the consulate in a car filled with explosives.Pictures of the attack posted on social media outlets showed smoke rising from the surrounding area. The reason for this attack may be the fear of the militants that the Chinese, along with Pakistan’s military, are suppressing their ambition for a separate state.Killing innocent people will not yield their desired result. Letter Published in The National UAE on 22 Nov 18 Choking smog in our streets in Delhi is far from capital
Regarding your story Why Delhi-dwellers are breathing in the equivalent of 40 cigarettes a day (November 20), Rashmee Roshan Lall's article on the Indian capital's ongoing problems with pollution and the conditions in which people are living and breathing was a fascinating read.
According to the World Health Organisation's report, Delhi is the sixth most polluted city. More cars on the road seems to be the main reason for pollution, made worse by destroying and burning rubbish in open places.
As the capital, the Indian government should work to make Delhi less polluted and persuade people to use their cars less frequently. The government must take concrete measures to minimise pollution.

Workers should be Protected.

India is a Vast Country with many states  different religious faiths ,languages and Industries.Indian southern state TamilNadu  has many industries in all the major cities taking care of the people living there.Sivakasi is one of the famous city known fot Litho Printing presses, and famous Fire Crackers factories  not only catering indian demand on festival seasons  but also exporting other countries. To my knowledge nearly one million people including children  working in fire crackers factories depending their lively hood.By it's various side effects, accidents,of crackers Indian top judiciary court Ordered recently to restrict the crackers  during the famous Diwali festival was a great shock for those connected with Cracker industry. On the one hand i welcome the decision from the top court on various grounds  but on the other how these one million workers thrive in the society. My suggestion  government of India and state governments where ever fire works factory located to come together make an alternative  to provide Job for these workers.Since all are having families and have ambition with their children  government should introduce small scale ,cottage industries of day to day products Viz,Jam,Confectionery,Food items and various day to day movables which not only have demand but also government will make reasonable  profit.I feel this may be an  alternative  one for the fire workers. However  by restricting the duration of celebrating in Diwali
millions of people loose their interest but safety also important.I am  confident Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lot of plans for the Commonman's welfare will consider this proposal. This will help the continuity of job for the workers.Ultimately no one should starve is my wish.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 21Nov 18A clash of conservatism and traditions with the law
Regarding your story Dozens arrested around flashpoint Indian temple (November 20), referring to the ongoing agitation and protests in the Indian southern state of Kerala surrounding the controversial Sabarimala temple, this has become a battleground between faith and law.
A total of 68 people have been arrested after female devotees were stopped from going into the temple. Yet the highest court in India has given its verdict, saying there are no restrictions for women.
Unfortunately, centuries of tradition and conservatism seem to be winning the battle. Whether the law ultimately emerges the winner remains to be seen.

After her call over Ram  was happy about her intention to unite with him..But he is unable to know the back ground of her past even though she has expressed every thing in detail in two big letters which he lost.If he tells to her what she will think about him. That is the main reason  hedid n't open that topic.Time only has to solve every thing. But he is very confident his beautiful Vasanthy loves him  and he also loves her. When they will unite? is the question mark?

I write with reference to your article Cyclone Gaja kills 33 in India’s Tamil Nadu state (November 19). This piece outlined the situation in south India very well.
In addition to the many lives lost, heavy damages will also have to be assessed by the authorities. The state government deployed hundreds of workers to evacuate people to rescue camps and compensation of $14,000 to the families of victims has been announced.
No one can stop nature’s fury, but it it is good that the local government is here to help the people affected by this disaster. I applaud the actions of Edappadi Palaniswamy, who has overseen these efforts.
I will also pray for the victims and for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.

I write in reference to your article In an age of information overload, who can we really trust? (Nov 13). Gavin Esler’s thoughts on the overwhelming tide of all we now have to deal with were extremely interesting.
Despite the advancement in information technology being positive in many ways, biased reporting and fake news are increasingly common. This is deeply regrettable.

Not a big cost
This is with reference to the statue of Indian politician Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that was recently constructed in the Indian state of Gujarat (“World’s tallest statue inaugurated in India”, Gulf News, November 1). On the one hand I applaud the gesture of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for erecting the tallest statue in the wold. But on the other, he is being criticised by many because of this decision. The cost factor has upset people, even though it did create job opportunities for many. The cost of the monument has gone into crores and that is unacceptable. But everything said, I think Patel deserves to stand tall in his hometown for his achievement and contribution towards our country.

This was a delicately handled piece on the ongoing crisis in India’s growing #MeToo movement. The MJ Akbar affair has rumbled on for more than three weeks and more women are coming forward to air their grievances
The movement has taken on momentum, aided by the media and activists. Naturally, it is important that justice and due process prevail. As the writer rightly argues, men should also embrace this powerful movement, both in India and globally. Ultimately, the truth can only emerge following thorough investigation.

Sometimes, the language used is too filthy as well. The place, visited by thousands of tourists, both domestic and international, every day should be kept clean and tidy. Such messages will actually sully the city's image. I applaud the decision from the horticulture department to fine miscreants. Stringent action must be taken against them.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 6 Nov 18Kudos to Etihad for its extraordinary growth
I refer to your article Up, up and away: the story of Etihad’s first flight (November 5), exactly 15 years ago, Etihad’s first aircraft A330 took off from Abu Dhabi international airport – and how the company has grown since. Over the years, Etihad has earned a solid reputation among other airlines and passengers alike.
Today the UAE has two major airlines, one based in Dubai. Kudos to Etihad. I wish the company great success in the coming months and years.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 5 Nov 18The ISIS attack in Egypt is tragic and unacceptable
Please refer to your article Deadly attack on Egyptian bus carrying Coptic Christians (November 3). The brutal attack in Minya that killed seven people and injured 14 was sad to read. The attack took place at the same location of last year’s, when 28 Christians were killed by militants. However, Friday’s attack was perpetrated by ISIS. They have targeted Coptic Christians because they supported President Abdul Fatah El Sisi, after he toppled Hosni Mubarak in 2013. The guilty should be brought to book.

We should honour our leaders with deeds, not just statues On the one hand, I applaud the gesture of India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, for erecting the tallest statue in the world for the freedom fighter, Saradar Patel who brought unity to the country. On the other hand, political critics are, perhaps rightly, pouring scorn on Mr Modi, given the backdrop of recent developments in India. The cost factor is of great importance and thus far lacks clarity. The statue has created job opportunities for people during the almost two and half years of construction. But if the cost rises to Dh1.5 billion, which was mooted, that is unacceptable. However, money aside, Sardar Patel deserves to stand tall in his home town for his extraordinary achievements.K Ragavan, Bengaluru
