Letter.

Letter Published in KhaleejTimes UAE on 7July 19 Senior citizens left out of Modi government’s budgetThe recent Indian budget speaks for overall development, including infrastructural investments, welfare of farmers, and education sector. However, it has given a short shrift to the senior citizens, especially the non-pensioners, who are fully dependent on their bank fixed deposits. Not much thought has been given to them, which is saddening. The current bank interest rates for senior citizens are not sufficient to keep up with the mounting rate of inflation and medical expenses. The Indian government should take cognizance of this issue and initiate remedial action. Non-pensioners who do not fall under the Income tax slabs should get a good rate of interest to meet medical and normal expenses. -K. Ragavan, Bengaluru
