Letter Published in BM On 30 No saffronisation in awarding contract
CV Aravind writes, The awarding of the contract to run Indira Canteens in the city to the Girija Shastry Memorial Trust named in memory of the late Union Minister Ananth Kumar’s mother and run by his wife Tejaswini Ananth Kumar clearly satisfies the tender norms. (A touch of saffron in Indira canteens). The Trust was the lowest bidder and the L1 principle was adopted as per the rules governing tenders floated by the state government. There is clearly nothing more than meets the eye in this issue as the Trust is qualified for the job given its impressive track record as an NGO that has been engaged in such social activities. The Trust is being run with a messianic zeal and has reached out to thousands of impoverished students, men and women. It is therefore needless to give a political colour to the issue as it is evident that the government has neither deviated from procedure nor violated any norms in awarding the contract. K Ragavan writes on Twitter, continuous maintenance of quality in these canteens is important. Since the NGO already has a track record in providing midday meals, I hope they will provide better services and good food at these canteens
