Small Story 518.
Small Story 518.
Accepting Reality for the Better
Basappa was a little upset that his grandson could not secure a seat in an engineering college. Instead, he got admission through the management quota in a reputed university in Ahmedabad. Basappa had always dreamed that his grandson would follow in his footsteps as an engineer.
However, his wife was happy. Her brother had studied at the same university and was now holding a good position in life. Their grandson, Vishwa, was also very happy because he had got into a good college.
That evening, after finishing his tea and daily walk, Basappa went to his usual gathering place where his group of friends met. Everyone greeted him warmly. Shashi whispered to him, “Hey Basappa, you don’t seem to be in your usual mood today.”
Basappa shared his disappointment about his grandson not getting an engineering seat. Ram listened patiently and then said, “There’s no need to worry. You wanted your grandson to become an engineer like you, but fate has chosen management for him. Think of it this way—sometimes a marriage proposal doesn’t work out, but later we get an even better match. In the same way, Vishwa is blessed with this opportunity, which may lead him to a better position in society.”
Everyone agreed with Ram’s words. Basappa felt lighter, his mood changed, and he accepted the cup of tea with a smile. Ram was happy that he could comfort his friend.
In life, acceptance is important—it is often God’s wish guiding us toward something better.
