Small Story 519
A Song of Destiny
Subhas was excited and nervous as he waited for his friend Harish. That day was special — Harish was taking him to meet the popular singer Subramaniam.
Though Subhas had completed his degree in Automobile Engineering, his true passion had always been music. He participated in seasonal events and functions, but deep in his heart, he dreamed of becoming a popular singer one day.
Soon, Harish arrived and took Subhas to Subramaniam’s house. The legendary singer greeted them warmly and offered tea and biscuits. After a brief conversation, Subramaniam asked Subhas to sing. With confidence and emotion, Subhas sang his favorite classical-based melody.
Subramaniam was impressed.
“I like your voice,” he said kindly. “I will try to include you in my next production as a singer. But remember, many talented people are waiting for opportunities. It may take some time.”
Subhas respectfully replied, “I understand, sir. I just want to try. If it works out, I’ll be very happy. If not, I will continue in my profession. Since I haven’t tried seriously yet, I want to give myself a chance. I graduated three years ago, and I’m willing to wait.”
Subramaniam smiled and called out to his sister, Maheswari, asking her to bring his visiting card.
When Maheswari entered the room, both she and Subhas were shocked.
They were classmates in college!
During their college days, they had shared a silent crush on each other. But after Subhas left for further studies, they lost contact for three long years.
Maheswari handed over the card and said to her brother, “Anna, he is my college mate. A very bright student — and very passionate about singing.”
Subramaniam was pleased. “That’s wonderful! You both talk. Harish and I need to meet a producer,” he said before leaving.
Maheswari was delighted. Her parents and sister-in-law had gone out of town for a wedding, and she had stayed back at home. She felt it was fate that brought Subhas there that day.
They spoke for a long time, shared memories, and exchanged phone numbers.
Within a month, Subhas received an opportunity to sing one song in Subramaniam’s production. The song became a huge hit, and Subhas’s voice captured the hearts of the audience. Soon, he became a rising star in the music industry.
A few months later, Subhas and Maheswari’s wedding was celebrated in a grand manner. Many Sandalwood film personalities, technicians, and popular actors attended the ceremony, as Maheswari was the beloved sister of the famous singer Subramaniam.
What began as a meeting for a musical opportunity became a beautiful journey of love and destiny — proving that sometimes, life composes its own perfect melody.
