Small Story 581.
The Blessings That Travel With Us
Sudha and her son Suhas settled into their seats on the Mangalore-bound Vande Bharat Express. Suhas was on his way to Mangalore to write an important entrance exam at a well-known center. To Suhas’s surprise, his father Rajesh had joined them at the last moment. The parents also planned to visit Udupi after the exam for the darshan of Lord Krishna.
Soon after the train started, a lady arrived with her son and took the seats opposite Sudha. As their eyes met, the lady smiled warmly, and Sudha returned the smile. She introduced herself as Ranjana, and her son as Anirudh. They too were traveling to Mangalore for Anirudh’s entrance exam the next day.
Suhas happily greeted Anirudh, and the two boys quickly struck up a conversation. Ranjana shared that they would be staying with her aunt in Mangalore for a couple of days and then visit Udupi for darshan. Sudha was delighted and said they had a similar plan, though they intended to stay in a hotel.
After a brief pause, Ranjana said kindly, “Since we are traveling for the same purpose and from the same city, and I feel a good connection with you and Suhas, why don’t you stay with us? My aunt lives alone in a large house.”
Sudha looked at Rajesh, who nodded in agreement. She smiled and accepted the invitation.
As the journey continued, Sudha and Ranjana became good friends. They discovered a shared passion for collecting traditional clothes and spent hours chatting. Ranjana mentioned that her husband, who worked in a bank’s audit department, was away on official duty and couldn’t join them. The families exchanged homemade sweets and snacks, making the journey joyful and memorable.
At Mangalore station, a car sent by Ranjana’s aunt was waiting. Ranjana had already spoken to her aunt and received permission to bring Sudha’s family along. When they reached the large, elegant house, Aunt Ambuja welcomed them warmly.
After a delicious lunch, they all sat together talking. Ambuja observed thoughtfully, “This meeting during your train journey feels special—like it was meant to happen.”
Then she gently asked Sudha, “When you left Bengaluru, your elders must have blessed Suhas, didn’t they?”
Sudha nodded, surprised. “Yes, both my parents and my mother-in-law blessed him.”
Ambuja smiled softly and said, “It is the power of those blessings. Years ago, my grandson traveled to Trichy for an exam. He too met a kind family on the way and stayed with them in Srirangam. Such connections are not mere coincidences—they are guided by the blessings of our elders.”
Everyone sat in thoughtful silence, realizing the unseen strength and grace that travels with sincere blessings.
