Hats off to the UAE astronaut for the feats he is accomplishing on a weekly basis on board the International Space Station. He paid a touching tribute to Egypt, rightly mentioning the old civilisation, the world-famous pyramids and different aspects of Egyptian culture. It is incredible that Al Neyadi is experiencing six months in space. It will be for him a trip of a lifetime. It is also very interesting to read that during his time there he will take part in more than 200 experiments by Nasa and 19 that involve UAE universities. Apart from the scientific work, in conveying such spectacular images – pointing out how the Nile Delta from space resembles a flower from that vantage point – he is making everyone proud, his family, his people, his country and the Arab world at large. Tribute to a great friendship and respect for traditions. Today I remembered an unforgettable incident that happened in my life seven years back, when I was living in Gubbalala area . Every wednesday I used to visit Vasantha Pura temple and have good Darshan of Lord Vasantha Vallabarayaswamy. During one of my usual visit and after I finished my Darshan, suddenly some body called my name.When I turned I saw my old friend whom I had acquaintance In my UAE days. Swamy was standing. He told me that he had come to his relative ‘s marriage in Bhanashankari and heard of this old temple wanted to have Darshan. I invited him to my house. But due to lack of time he could not make it. But we have spent twenty minutes in the temple discussing our old experiences in Dubai. He was working for a leading Advertisement and marketing company at that time. I was introduced by one of our common friend and we interacted and enjoyed various topics. After seeing my fore head with our traditional Thiruman and Srichuranam symbol he was very happy. He immediately asked me Ragavan , Are you following your sampradayam of doing Thiruvaradanam at your house. I was taken aback! Yes, after my retirement I do religiously every day at home. This I do as per the path shown by my Acharyan Srimad Andavan swamigal. My friend was very happy and he said 'You are blessed you should stick to this'. I replied by God’s grace till this morning I am following our sampradayam(tradition)and shall continue till my last breath. One should strictly follow one's Sampradhayam and as per your Acharyaa or Guru. He said that he follows his sampradhayam as per his Acharyan ,the Great Kanchi Periyavaa. We both discussed at length that one should never feel shy to follow one's traditions and not bother about any criticism from any one about your sampradhayam. You should stick to it. Friendship is different and should not interfere in one's worship practices. This great personality I remembered today. Mr. Swamy. His thought is very much true .Everyone should continue their Worship Methodology and respect every one. Swamy’s words are still ringing in my ears. K.Ragavan See you Next week, 27-3-23

Letter Published in The National UAE on24 Mar 23 I write to you in reference to Adla Massoud's report World faces worsening water crisis, UN says (March 22): this was an informative article that was also alarming, primarily regarding the timeline mentioned, which only emphasises the need to act now. Most people in the developing world know too well what water scarcity looks like and it has become endemic due to overconsumption and pollution. The article clearly states the factors that are worsening the crisis. It is mainly climate change and population growth that need to be looked in to. Another important aspect is water intensive agricultural practices across the world that need reform. I found it interesting that this conference was the first event since 1977 aimed at addressing the global water crisis. With climate change such a hot topic of discussion today, the international community must come together and co-operate on solutions that apply to not just one part of the world. Over all, a shortage of water cannot be sustained for a long period of time. Policymakers and laypeople know this well. Let's hope the numbers improve, otherwise we may well have a dire situation on our hands. As the report says, by 2050, 2.4 billion people will be affected by water scarcity, with India being the most affected. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

மறக்கமுடியாத அனுபவம் எல்லா அனுபவங்களும் இன்பமானவை ,ஆனால் சில அனுபவங்கள் மறக்கமுடியாத ஒன்று.சமீபத்தில் என் அனுபவம் இன்பமான ஒன்று.நாற்பத்திஐந்து வருடத்திற்கு முன் மதுரையில் நான் ஒரு பிரபல மருத்துவ கம்பெனியில் பணி புரியும் போது என்னுடன் சேர்ந்து பணிபுரிந்த நண்பர்களை மார்ச் ஏழாம் தேதி சென்னையில் சந்தித்து செலவழித்த இன்பமான நேரத்தை ,அனுபவத்தை இங்கு மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன்.நண்பர்களின் முகம் காலத்தினால் மாறிவிட்டாலும் பழகும் விதம் அன்று இருந்ததை போல் இருந்ததை கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தேன்.ஒவ்வொரு நண்பரும் வாழ்க்கையில் பல அரிய காரியங்களை செய்து நல்ல பதவியில் இருந்து ,நல்ல பெயருடன் ஓய்வு எடுத்துக்கொண்டதை கண்டு அகமகிழ்ந்தேன்..நண்பர்களின் ,மகன்,மகள் பேர குழந்தைகள் நல்ல ,நிலையில் இருபத்திருப்பதை பார்த்து சந்தோசப்பட்டேன் .நாங்கள் கழித்த காலத்தில் ,சந்தித்த மருத்துவர்கள் ,மற்றும் உண்டு கழித்த சிற்றுண்டி சாலைகள் ,உணவகம்,பார்த்த திரை படங்கள் ,முக்கியமாக மாயா ஜால மன்னன் விட்டலாச்சார்யா திரைப்படங்களும் இடம் பெற்றன.அன்று இருந்த சந்தோஷமும் ,திருப்தியும் இன்று இல்லை என்பதையும் அவர்கள் மூலமாக அறிந்தேன் என்னையும் சேர்த்து.மதுரையில் காலடி வைத்தவர்கள் எவரும்சோடை போனதில்லை என்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.அன்று அதை உண்மையில் உணர்ந்தேன்.காலம் எங்களை இவ்வளவு வருடங்கள் ,பிரித்து இருந்தாலும்,அன்றைய சந்திப்பு எல்லா கடந்த கால வாழ்க்கையையும் அறியவைத்ததில் வியப்பில்லை.முடிவில் ஒன்று கூற ஆசைப்படுகிறேன்.மருத்துவபிரிதிநிதியாக பணியாற்றியஎந்தநபரும் ,எந்த தொழிலிலும் தங்கள் முத்திரையை பதிப்பார்கள் என்பது உண்மை என்றுஇந்த சந்திப்பின்மூலம் அனுபவபூர்வமாக உணர்ந்தேன்.நீங்களே சொல்லுங்கள் இது மறக்கமுடியாத அனுபவம் தானே. அன்புடன் கே.ராகவன். 13-3-23

40 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் 80 களில் வாழ்ந்த இனிய வாழ்க்கை..!! 1. செருப்பு அறுந்தால் தைத்து போட்டுக் கொண்டோம்.. 2. காதலித்து திருமணம் செய்தாலும் கணவனை “வாங்க, போங்க” என்று தான் மனைவி அழைப்பாள். 3. ஆணியில் மாட்டி கிழிந்த துணியை தைத்து உடுத்தி கொண்டோம். 4. முதல் நாள் கூட்டு பொறியல் ரசம் சாம்பாரை சுண்ட செய்து பழங்கஞ்சியுடன் பருகினோம். 5. எல்லா கல்யாணத்திலும் மத்திய உணவு பிரதானமாக இருந்தது வடை பாயசத்துடன் வீட்டு சொந்தங்களே பாசத்துடன் பரிமாறினார். 6. ரயில் பயணத்திற்கு புளிசாதமும் எலுமிச்சை சாதமும் கட்டி சென்றோம். 7. பெரும்பாலும் பேருந்தில் தான் போனோம். 8. பள்ளி மாணவர்கள் குழந்தைகளாக இருந்தனர். 9. இளையராஜா தான் எங்கும் ஒலித்தார். 10. பாடல்களின் வரிகள் புரிந்தன. 11. காதலிப்பவர்களுக்கும் உறவுகளுக்கும் கடிதங்கள் எழுதினோம். 12. ரஜினி கமல் 'பொங்கல்' 'தீபாவளி' க்ரீடிங்க்ஸ் கிடைத்தது. 13. உண்டு களித்து தீபாவளிக்கு சினிமா பார்த்தோம். 14. காணும் பொங்கலுக்கு உறவுகளை பார்த்தோம். 15. திருடனை பிடிக்க ஊரே ஓடியது. 16. பாம்பு அடிக்க பக்கத்து வீட்டு மாமா வந்தார். 17. பக்கத்து வீட்டு பெரியவர்களுக்கு பயந்தோம். 18. கல்யாணத்திற்கு உறவுகள் இரண்டு நாள் முன்னரே வந்தனர். 19.மானேஜராக பணி புரிந்தாலும் தந்தை சைக்கிளில் தான் பவனி வந்தார். 20. வெள்ளி அன்று ஒலியும் ஒளியும் பார்க்க ஆவலோடு காத்து கிடந்தோம். 21. பழைய புத்தகங்களை பாதி விலைக்கு வாங்கி பாடம் படித்தோம். 22. பனம் பழம் சுட்டு உண்ண காடு காடாய் அடைந்தோம். 23. கயித்து கட்டிலை பெரியவர்களுக்கு கொடுத்து விட்டு பாயில் படுத்து உறங்கினோம். 24. எல்லாவற்றையும் விட காலை பொழுதுகள் ரம்மியமாக இருந்தது, முன்னேற்றம் என்ற பெயரில் நல்லவற்றை தொலைத்தோம். "நாகரீகப் போா்வை" போா்த்தி நாசமாய் போனோம். அன்றைய வாழ்க்கையில் பிரச்சனைகளும் இருந்தன! இன்று பிரச்சனைகளே வாழ்க்கையாகிப் போனது இன்று என்ன தான் உலகம் நவீனமயம் ஆனாலும் தொலைந்த வசந்தகாலத்தை இன்று யாராலும் மீட்க முடியாது என்பது நூறுதச உண்மை...

*All Fused Bulbs are the Same* ! A senior executive retired and shifted from his palatial official quarters to the housing society, where he owned a flat. He considered himself big and never talked to anyone. Even while walking in the society park every evening, he ignored others, looking at them with contempt. One day, it somehow transpired that an elderly person sitting beside him started a conversation, and they continued to meet. Every conversation was mostly a monologue with the retired executive harping on his pet topic, Nobody can imagine the big post and high position I held before retirement; I came here due to compulsions”; and so on, and the other elderly person used to listen to him quietly. After many days, when the retired executive was inquisitive about others, the elderly listener opened his mouth and said, *After retirement, we are all like fused bulbs*. *It does not matter what a bulb’s wattage was, how much light or glitter it gave, after it gets fused*. He continued, “I have been living in this society for the last 5 years and have not told anyone that I was a Member of the Parliament for two terms. On your right, over there is Vermaji, who retired as General Manager in Indian Railways. Over there is Singh Saheb, who was a Major General in the Army. That person sitting on the bench in spotless white dress is Mehraji, who was the chief of ISRO before retirement. He hasn’t revealed it to anyone, not even to me, but I know.” *All fused bulbs are now the same* whatever its wattage was – 0, 10, 40, 60, 100 watts – it doesn’t matter now. Neither does it matter what type of bulb it was before it got fused – LED, CFL, Halogen, Incandescent, fluorescent, or decorative. And that, my friend, applies to you too. The day you understand this, you will find peace and tranquillity even in this housing society. The rising sun as well as the setting sun are both beautiful and adorable. But, in reality, the rising sun gets more importance and adoration, and is even worshipped , whereas the setting sun is not given the same reverence. It is better to understand this sooner than later. Our current designation, title and power are not permanent. Keeping lot of emotions with these things only complicate our life when we lose this one day. Remember that when the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box. Letter Published in The National UAE on 10March 23 UAE women taking the lead With regard to Ramola Talwar Badam's piece How UAE's female engineers keep the lights on (March 8): It's good to see a decrease in gender bias in some fields at least, as demonstrated by the many talented women entering work avenues that were entirely male domains in the past. It was heartening to read about the young engineer Shaima Al Hammadi following in the footsteps of her sister, and also Noora Kheily, further along in her career and who has always been interested in physics. Women in Stem subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), make up 61 per cent of graduates in the UAE, as opposed to 57 per cent in the Arab World, according to Unesco. This is bound to inspire more women to become scientists and engineers. That more women are entering Stem fields is commendable. Kudos to the UAE for supporting them. K Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

From my good friend Shankar Krishnamurthy.Mr. Raghavan Krishnamachari has been doing the writing work since he was in Dubai even though he was a servant. He regularly writes about many leaders, achievers, directors, cinematographers, composers, writers, scientists and many others on his blog. I have read his writing in many places like train, car, plane, home and so much he has written about them.. It's amazing that he wrote about me in this list today.. I don't remember having achieved anything big enough to join that list. Nevertheless, I consider myself to be an object and greatly respect what he has written. I bow down.. He knows a lot about politics, cinema and world things. He's the kind of person I love to talk to. Tribute 756. Tribute to Director B.R.Chopra. Today, I am going to pen another memorable writer, producer, and director of Bollywood who is none other than Late B.R.Chopra of B.R.Films, which is known for its respect and image in the Film fraternity. B.R.Chopra has produced many memorable films and an unforgettable serial called Mahabharat. He has directed a couple of movies with his directorial touch. Films that i have seen include Daastan, Pati Patni aur woh, Kanoon, Dhund, Humraaz, and Karm are remarkable. Thespian Dilip kumar's action in Daastan was a huge hit. Kanoon was another masterpiece from this director. Pati patni aur woh was also a successful one in which, if i remember correctly, late Sanjeev Kumar had acted. Play back singer Mahendra Kapoor was associated with his films. He had wonderful technicians in his unit, including his cinematographer and brother Dharm chopra and director brother Yash Chopra. Serial Mahabhart made another landmark for his banner in a small screen, which is not exaggerated. Late Rahi mazoom raza was the Dialoque writer for this serial. Mahabharat gave wonderful actors to Bollywood, which included Mukesh Khanna, Punit Isarand, and many more. He has produced many successful films like Waqt Dhul ka phool, and Chandni Chowk was among them. Bagh Baan story was this stalwart's all three chopra brothers dominated in B.R. Films Banner.
