Letter.

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 27Nov 17Violence is never the answer
The recent agitation on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Padmavati and the following threats being made to actress Deepika Padukone was sad (“Padmavati issue: Deepika Padukone’s parents get police protection”, Gulf News, November 22). On the one hand I applaud the concept of freedom of speech and expression, but on the other hand, violations of norms is unacceptable. Before making the script, the filmmakers should have gone deeper into the history of the ancient story. If he would have done the work and researched before making the film, this would not have happened. However the recent threat to Padukone is unacceptable. Threating someone is not the answer. The story should be analysed and action should be taken. I admire Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his work but if the movie affects the sentiments of the people, the censor board should decide the outcome of the movie, and not Karni Seva. Sensitive issues should be tackled diplomatically.
