In reference to your article Iraqi politicians demand re-run after fire at ballot centre adds to chaos after vote (June 12), Mina Aldroubi’s article on the huge fire in Iraq after the recent elections was sad to read. Iraq has overcome many hurdles in recent times, most notably the scourge of terror and suicide attacks.

At a time when the Iraqi people need stability following an election, this incident is deeply unfortunate. Politicians are demanding a re-election in order to save Iraqi democracy. This is a worthy endeavour. It is unclear what caused the fire but I am sure the Iraqi government will look into it.
