Letter.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 29May 19High turnout for EU elections is a good sign for democracy
I write to you in reference to Gavin Esler’s opinion piece Being on the European campaign trail brought out the worst of us – and the best (May 27).
As Mr Esler rightly pointed out, some people feel the European Union does not represent them and are disenfranchised as a result. That partly explains the process leading to Brexit.
The high turnout for these elections is therefore extremely positive to see.
The UK is still facing the consequences of the Brexit referendum today, as Prime Minister Theresa May herself realised when she had to resign over her failure to deliver a deal.
Will the UK’s new prime minister finally prioritise the interests of British people? Only time will tell.
