This attractive, famous Indian tourist destination which have been given Unesco World Heritage Site status is laudable. I congratulate The National’s team for bringing up this important place to all its readers. The pictures of the meter gauge steam engine was a particular highlight for me and was very popular in the Indian railway network back in the old days.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

I write with reference to your online article Saudi Arabia raises India’s Hajj quota to 200,000(June 28).
This must have been wonderful news for the nation’s devout pilgrims. The decision was made at a recent meeting of India’s prime minister Narendra Modi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the G20 summit.
What a good idea. With increase of 30,000, even more Indian citizens will have the chance to visit Saudi Arabia, which will help to forge deep personal relationships with the country, in addition to the strong trading links that exist between these two great countries. Shafi Musaddique’s article was a very good read. Compared to other countries, India is not enjoying an especially good relationship with Britain today, as the new report states. Britain’s lack of interest in developing a good relationship with the government of Narendra Modi will do it no favours as New Delhi enhances its huge potential and power across the globe, with Mr Modi steering the ship. I am of the view that Britain should rethink its strategy on India with regards to bilateral trade, education and tourism. Pakistan needs to pick up

People were a little disappointed with the one-sided batting of the Indian team (“Cricket World Cup 2019: Sarfaraz refuses to give up on Pakistan hopes”, Gulf News, June 18). The bowling and batting done by the Indian team was extremely good, which resulted in their victory. Seeing the ground reality, the captain of the Pakistan team, Sarfaraz Ahmad opted to field first, and this decision resulted in his downfall. Whatever the circumstances, cricket is a game of luck with dedication. I would like to congratulate Kohli and his men for the victory.

To make it easier for the residents, a post box can be installed either at the Mantri Tranquil area or Gubbalala main gate. Even though it is the era of couriers and emails, there are people who still use the postal service. Hope the authorities will consider my request.

This piece on how residents of the capital of Tamil Nadu state are suffering from acute water shortages, spending hours queuing to fill bottles and buckets and paying extremely high rates to suppliers was sad to read.
The local administration has failed to take adequate preventative measures to reserve water in case of crises such as the one unfolding at the present moment.
The administration should put laws in place that prevent people from selling water, which is one of the most basic human needs, after all, for exorbitant prices.
Ultimately, in these situations, prevention is better than cure. This is a sad state of affairs indeed.

K Ragavan thought that the story ‘Priyanka to tour UP as Congress mulls revamp’ was a good read. He writes, after the recent drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls, Congress’ eastern Uttar Pradesh in charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wanting to revamp the party makes sense. No use of blaming the people or party cadres for not carrying out their responsibilities properly. People have rejected the party because they did no development for poor and minorities. They only spoke about secularism and did not do anything for the poor, which has landed them into this. Revamping is a tough task now as people have lost their faith with the grand old party.

K Ragavan, after reading the story ‘Crinkle in Shivajinagar’ wonders why people invest their money on unreliable companies. He writes that investors are now crying foul over not receiving their returns from IMA Jewels. The whereabouts of the MD are not known and the government has now ordered SIT to investigate. People don’t invest money in banks as the returns are lesser as compared to investing in a company. The high cost of living is not compensated by the returns one receives from the banks. Therefore, they fall into such investment traps. It is really sad that even after so much news coverage about companies cheating people of their hard-earned money, they still tend to invest on them. It can only be hoped that SIT will find out the truth and people’s money will remain safe from now on.

Having his marriage fixed by his parents, this techie has taken the drastic decision of committing suicide just because his fiancé was not interested in his decision of postponing the wedding for another two years. On one day  in the hot summer we were inside the house sleeping and it was two p.m.
We were fast asleep and suddenly we were hearing Tomy's big roaring sound from the front  door. When i came i saw one fellow was plucking  our roses and seeing me  dropped bunch of roses and ran away. I saw my dad's sad face.He has grown those roses  with love and dedication.Every one passing through our house their eyes will be in our front Rose garden which my dad grown  with different Colous through his magical  hands.
Then i  realized the importance of keeping a faithful  friend like Tomy living in an independent house..When ever we sit for lunch Tomy will be watching.Once it's plate kept than only it will come from the front gate.Days was passing smoothly and one day i returned from tour i was missing  my Tomy when i entered in my house.
My younger brother was sitting  with  sad face.My mother explained me that our beloved dog tomy  was killed while it was crossing to the opposite house when  the neighbor called Tomy by a Motor cycle fellow and ran away.I was shocked it was with us for nearly four years with dedication and faithful. My father remembered  Tomy's protection for his dedicated Roses. After few days we all in our family came to normal.I have decided not to go for another faithful friend for the reason I can not with stand the  loss.Even today i am not favoring my grand son's wish for keeping a dog.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 3June 19We need better regulation of gun sales to stop US tragedies  It is high time the Trump administration took a stance on gun-related violence.
The US government must devise better laws to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again.

Letter Published in BM on 2June 19Need a solution to let heli-taxi continue
K Ragavan writes that the road widening work for international airport has killed the helitaxi shuttle service (Heli-taxi is K.I.A) is a vexing issue. The heli taxi service was affected by the work from the beginning.Due to this work the service was stopped for more than 15 days and the commuters were left in the lurch. How long would the work take is the question mark? The authorities can consider if are any other alternative ways to continue the service by providing it with another site. Having said that, the road widening work too is important. Hope the parties involved will work out some solution for this

Letter Published in The National UAE on 2June 19 Narendra Modi’s new cabinet will make India prosperous I write in reference to your article Narendra Modi Picks Nirmala Sitharaman to steer India’s faltering economy (May 31). This was an excellent piece. Narendra Modi has not only introduced a number of new faces but has also changed some portfolios of Indian cabinet of ministers. In my view this is very laudable. New portfolios handed to Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh make real sense for India’s economic development path. The dramatic rise of Nirmala Sitharaman from defence to finance shows the confidence bestowed on her by Mr Modi. All three have portfolios that come with great power and responsibility. This BJP cabinet will deliver on the promises made before and during the election by Mr Modi and will fight corruption, which is necessary. In this way, it will make India not only proud but also prosperous. Congratulations to Mr Modi and his team for securing a second term.K Ragavan, Bengaluru
