Letter Published in The National UAE on 18Nov 19 Lebanon needs young and inspired leaders to get it back on track
I write to you in reference to your editorial Lebanon’s new leaders must reflect the concerns of a young generation (November 16): for far too long the people of Lebanon have been subjected to the same old politics of divide and rule. But now they have come together and demanded change with one voice. The result of consecutive days of demonstrations has been the resignation of top government officials. The challenge for the next leadership team, whenever it is ready to take over, will be to get the country’s economy back on track. In the short term, people need young and inspired administrators to deliver to them good governance. The question in the long run is whether Lebanon can be returned to its original place in the world – as a link between the East and the West. This should no doubt be a vision of the next generation of leaders.
