Small Story 541.
God’s Will – No One Knows
Sudharsan never anticipated that all his plans would be disrupted. He was supposed to travel to Sri Lanka for official work to launch a new product. However, due to recent disturbances in the Middle East and several other regions, many airlines had cancelled their routes.
Sudharsan worked as a Marketing Manager for a leading company that manufactured televisions and had a good reputation worldwide.
“Sudharsan, come for lunch. You have forgotten that today is Sunday,” called his mother Revathy.
Sudharsan came out of his room. His father Ramnath was waiting for him.
“Sudharsan, I want to ask you something. Why are you postponing your marriage? You are our only son, and we want to see our grandchildren,” said Ramnath.
“Dad, I understand your concern. Soon I will take a decision,” Sudharsan replied.
Sudharsan had never had a crush or close female friends. He kept postponing marriage because he had seen two of his friends’ marriages end in divorce, which made him hesitant.
After lunch, Sudharsan decided to go to a nearby mall and buy some chocolates. While standing at the counter, he noticed a wallet lying there. He looked around.
Soon he saw a young lady wearing a simple cotton saree, with graceful looks and ordinary bangles in her hands, searching anxiously.
“Excuse me, is this your wallet?” Sudharsan asked.
“Yes! Thank you so much,” she replied with relief. “I am Mythili. If I had lost that wallet, I would have lost the reference letter needed for my job interview.”
“Oh, I see. What is your background?” Sudharsan asked politely.
“I studied B.Sc. last year. Since then I have been struggling to get a job. My father is a retired school mathematics teacher.”
“What is his name?” asked Sudharsan with curiosity.
“My father’s name is Madhavan. He retired from Jayanagar High School.”
Sudharsan immediately recognized the name.
“I’m so glad! He was my mathematics teacher,” Sudharsan said happily. “If you don’t mind, I will drop you home. I would also like to meet him.”
Sudharsan drove Mythili to their small house, which had been built many years ago. Madhavan recognized Sudharsan immediately and warmly thanked him for returning the wallet.
When Mythili opened the wallet and checked the reference letter, she saw the recommending name—it was from Sudharsan’s company through his dealer Ram.
Sudharsan was delighted. Mythili had been recommended by his trusted dealer. He explained everything and promised to help her with the job opportunity.
As he drove back home, Sudharsan felt unusually happy. He kept thinking about Mythili—her simple green cotton saree, her modest ornaments, and her graceful smile. Simplicity was something he had always admired.
When Sudharsan told his parents about Mythili, they were pleased to see the happiness in his face.
“She seems simple and graceful,” said Revathy. “Shall we speak to your mathematics teacher Madhavan about his daughter?”
Ramnath smiled widely. Only that morning he had asked Sudharsan about marriage, and now the answer had appeared unexpectedly.
Truly, God’s will is something no one can ever predict.
