Small Story 548.
Do Not Believe Rumours
Shalini was worried about whether she would receive her gas cylinder if she booked it in advance. Because of the ongoing crisis and the loud debates on TV channels, she felt anxious.
Just then, her friend Vasanthy called.
“Hey Shalini, how are you?” she asked.
“I’m a little worried,” Shalini replied. “With all the news about shortages, I’m not sure whether the gas will arrive if I book it.”
Vasanthy laughed gently. “Oh, don’t worry! I booked my gas yesterday and received it in the evening.”
Shalini felt slightly relieved but said, “All these discussions on TV make it sound very serious.”
Vasanthy replied, “My husband Ram told me not to worry. According to him, there are enough reserves for our consumption needs. The government has international contacts and arrangements to ensure there is no disruption.”
She continued, “Ram also feels that some people are spreading unnecessary panic. The government is taking safety measures for gas supplies and has even brought back many stranded Indians from the Gulf region.”
Shalini whispered, “Yes, your husband Ram is a journalist. Everyone appreciates his authenticity. We should not believe rumours spread by people.”
“Exactly,” said Vasanthy. “Ram always says we should have confidence and avoid spreading panic.”
Shalini nodded. “I’m really happy you called. Now I understand the reality better.”
“Good,” Vasanthy said warmly. “Have a nice day. Take care—and don’t forget to book your gas!”
Shalini smiled, feeling calm and reassured.
Moral: Always verify facts and do not believe rumours.
